  1. Q: How complicated do you enjoy inventory? A: Yes. 😄 it should have been a multiple choice question. Sector inventory is a must. I love the LBE system, although it could get wierd, putting bags full of stuff in your backpack full of bags... Weight limit based on merc is also a requirement if you ask me. It's just off to have a farm girl in a juggernaut suit, LMG, mortar on her back. But most of all things should have their own slots. A modern take on N-pocket vests should be armor with Velcro stripes. You arrange the pockets as you see fit. Knife, scissors, mag pouches, sidearm holster, frags. I like finding the correct pouch, holster I want, especially in the camo tone I want it in.
  2. The mobile SAMs idea is nice, also because they are vehicles in combat, but would not actually give an advantage in combat. Being exclusively anti air they couldn't take part in an on foot firefight. They would be more of a liability, than an overpowering war machine. There's another aspect to this worth exploring - your team needing an operational SAM to advance and gain control of areas without being shredded to bits by enemy air support.
  3. I like the sound of that for two reasons. First is the uncertain location and second because it may add some real shift in map control areas, enemies taking back some of the areas you've liberated. It could just be me, but I never felt a real push back. I never had to make a difficult choice, lose a town or area of influence.
  4. Imagine what a rep system could do for replayability. If being friends with a faction meant you are not favored by other factions effectively locking weapons, quests and paths until your next playtrough. I think I'd prefer that to being able to please everyone, see everything and obtain all the cool stuff in a single run.
  5. I like what was playing in the cinematic trailer starting around 0:35, but the game play music sounds like an overly epic misstep...
  6. I think we all hope for close resemblance to JA2, but only because the failures were way bellow the JA2 class. Like another post said, we would settle for a better looking JA2 clone any day, however I too think we'll grow tired with it rather quickly.
  7. On their website they only have a fairly old Dev Diary about Surviving Mars. One each month for a total of 10 it seems. It does look like the blog is dead though. There's also an even older (seemingly honest for a dev) post about the shortcomings of Tropico 5. Didn't have time to read trough it, but it probably gives some insight on how the devs think and work and what lessons they've managed to attain.
  8. Nice. I never thought I'd consider sincerely starting a comment with the good old "This will probably get lost in the comments, but" line 😄 I don't think commenting on the same video would produce a better result. I commented on the CS video as it touches on some older game mechanics and limitations as well as the EXACT topic we talked about on here (tactical vs empty reloads in games). I imagine the only chance of success (assuming someone in the channel reads all comments) is if the guy played it at some point, which is not impossible given his age, field of expertise and obvious gaming habits going back to the CS 1.6 era.
  9. Just found out about this guy on YouTube - Jonathan Ferguson on the GameSpot channel. He comments on the guns in games and the videos are pretty neat. Do you think we can get him to talk about guns in JA? If we suggested a game (as they encourage you to do in his videos) in the comments enough times (all 4 of us 😄). It could be good exposure for the sequel and also would make a good episode... I've seen only 1st person shooter games covered, but who knows, maybe if he's come across a JA game in the past. Also found the All The Guns in Jagged Alliance 2 video on YouTube, which was fun, even if no expert makes the comments.
  10. No British Literature professors here, mate... at least I don't think so 😄 I agree, it's a nice layer and it's a driving feature of the games that have it. Like GODSPEED said, as long as it is more of an ease of life feature, rather than a base building sim, it would be pretty neat. Defending it, relocating it, finding yourself with a convoy in a swampy road, etc, would come a lot more naturally to JA, than the specifically designed timed event of defending the base in xcom.
  11. I said the foundation of a GOOD design. 😄 Jokes aside, I've never played any Bethesda title I consider a good game. It's an unpopular opinion, I know. In the case of Skyrim and Fallout 4, sure, mod away 🙂
  12. Poor guys. Weather has been lousy around here. Also, when you announce a fan favorite title and take some time off, you know your phone is going to melt and @Wigen 's gonna find your twitter 😄
  13. Aaand activity dropped to 0. 😄 Of course they're not gonna read the forum to get ideas, it's their job to know better than us. However, if they don't manage this community it will die faster than it took to set it up. Why would anyone be here if there is no dev input what so ever? Why not talk about JA in other older, better developed, better managed forums?
  14. From Dev's website: Technology Our in-house cross-platform engine supports a diverse range of games. We take pride in the power, speed and versatility of our content production tools. Our online scalable cloud solution supports cross-platform synchronous and asynchronous multi-player. Platforms Windows, MacOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Switch Sounds good to me!
  15. I don't think I've seen it, yet I know exactly what it's talking about 😄
  16. tell me about it... Did you play Commandos 2? The work on that game... from the music to sheer scale of the levels... how could these people be replaced by Fortnite designers? What happened? I noticed there was a remastered version even ported to consoles. People hate the remaster, I've yet to try it and see for myself. The transition from gorgeous 2D drawn classics to hideous 3D sequels was an extremely heavy hit. They've only recently started to draw in 3D better than the 2D originals. Look at the Diablo II Remaster. Compare it to WarCraft 3 models. It took them 20 years... Exactly. The differences between Wildlands, The Division, FarCry even AC (which should be impossible) are non existent. But they do sell, well. I have a bit of hope, because in most things in our country we are about 20 years late to the party. It is technically possible that the dev has not yet evolved to the worldwide level of money grabbing. No worries, we're in the Off-Topic section for a reason 😄
  17. Inveris has a point. We could expect (demand) developers engaged in the forum back when we were backers. No-one said devs WILL take part of this discussions. But shouldn't they? I really doubt it. There should be way too much to read if this community ever picks up. Two major approaches to selling games today are nostalgia and hype. By not developing a strong community they would miss out on both. I'm not that concerned with the lack of dev input, as much as the lack of community around this newly announced title. Registered members on here are less than the number of JA communities I've heard about. The devs are failing to combine JA's fan base and demonstrate basic comprehension of previous installments. Of course, they won't be coming here for ideas, but a little reassurance that they know what we are talking about could go a long way. I hope they have a couple. Otherwise this hasn't got the slightest chance of success. There should be a guy OR a team whose lunch time should be a break from this forum to be honest. And no, Brad isn't a Bulgarian name (then again neither is SWi74). I suspect the guy might not have anything to do with JA or/and the dev team. He might only be responsible for setting up a forum.
  18. That's what the new rainbow six spin-off is about. PvE. Don't know if it's going to be good, it doesn't look too interesting. They did a timed event a while ago and people must have liked it a lot if there is going to be an entire game on it. Now that I think about it, Ubi must have killed more beloved classics than anyone. Because Wildlands was decent, but I heard lots of bitter disappointment from older Ghost Recon fans. Same goes for Rainbow 6 - I quite liked it, but it's a whole other game, little to do with older R6 games. Heroes of Might and Magic... let's not even go there. Yeah, I had let it go. I just assumed that the kind of game quality is a thing of the past, not popular enough to be profitable today. Each attempt is sadder than the last just as it is with 90s action movie sequels. You can't make a Duke Nukem game now either. What a gem this was. Younger dudes telling me about vehicles in combat on Hell Let Loose, while I was destroying carriers with a sub decades ago. The JA franchise didn't just produce gun fans, but also game designers and entire new franchises.
  19. Branching a poll from @Dobrodukh thread about a map editor.
  20. I don't think we have the people to abuse it tbh 😄 Why are there so few of us. When we first talked about polls, I thought you meant dev-published polls, which is where the actual feedback would be. Devs should be the ones abusing it. But, yeah, we could totally vote for the length of Raven's hair, while we wait... 😄
  21. Haven't played Spellforce, but from what I've seen, no, Tzar is an RTS heavily inspired (if you want to say it nicely) by AoE. You might have got the wrong idea, because the campaign had "hero" units similar to how the StarCraft campaign was told. Yes, Ubi is pretty bad. They will always remain unforgiven for destroying the HoMM franchise. Even the remaster of HoMM3 was a huge disappointment with a complimentary lie about original graphics being worse than they actually were. Assassin's Creed had some issues, but for its time I'd say it was pretty revolutionary. AC2 was fantastic I would say. But then after Brotherhood it has been a steep, fast decline. Ubi releases so much stuff, though, it's statistically impossible for all of it to be horrible. There are some very enjoyable titles. Most importantly, Ubi has the capacity and budget to do great. Haemimont probably doesn't. I'd rather not say much. You can probably tell by now that I'm not exactly the patriotic type. I can feel a ban out to get me 😄 (maybe if the devs were an actual part of this surprisingly tiny community). I hope dev nationality has little to no effect on the game. I don't see anything done in a Bulgarian manner in Tropico... or in the JA3 setting so there's a big chance that it's irrelevant. They probably know a thing or two about socialism, communism, soviet union, life in an Eastern Block country. Maybe we'll get some good cold war remarks from the mercs. What I do know now (and I love how this thread about mag capacity made a full 360) is their exact opportunities when it comes to gun knowledge. Going to a range for a team building is very doable. The ranges however, are mostly indoors 25m handgun corridors with little weapon variety (one legendary metal body handgun (one has a Beretta 92fs, one has a CZ Shadow, one has the old CZ 75) that goes trough repairs every couple of weeks and a few polymer ones no-one really wants to use). There's also a 100m range with rifles close by, but the service is laughable. I did a half day basic training with an AK there. The weapon was a disgrace, too. Bulgaria used to manufacture AKs, but at some point decided they won't pay for the license. Now we make AK, but they're technically called otherwise. "That's the third time I steal a full set of parts from the cooker factory, but every time I try to assemble it, it becomes an AK" - grandad joke that captures a bit of Bulgaria pre democracy.
  22. Yeah, that could be fun. I think there's more to be done with factions than what JA2 did, though. Maybe reputation with certain groups could be a thing here similar to other games like wasteland, fallout, freelancer...
  23. Sadly this kind of scenario suits the new dev country (turns out it's my country) more than it suits an Austrian company.
