  1. I'm on Linux as well as I dropped windows a few years ago. I wouldn't be to concerned with getting it to run on proton or lutris. I'm able to play plenty of games on my setup and not need a work around.

Given that JA3 looks like a DX12 game running an older engine we should be fine.

  2. I think the 1.13 "improved" inventory system is amazing. I love the LBE mechanic because you can seriously overload a MERC if you aren't careful. Like a merc with only 50 strength might only be able to hold a rifle, sidearm, and a few magazines. Backpack? Forget it. Rucksack? No way.

I know it's very indepth but that is something I love about that mod.

  3. What are some of your favorite Easter Eggs from JA2? Also the small details that really brought the shine out for the game?

There are some that everyone knows. Getting the key for the Shady Lady upon entering a room you get horny noises and a smiley face. Replacing Pablo at the Drassen airport makes your gun shipments less likely to grow legs. Sending flowers to Deidranna gives you that little scene with Elliot.

But some of my lesser well known favorites are:

If you give Skipper anything in the junkyard he gives you a keycard to the Orta facility.

If you have Buzz in your squad and you kill Doreen she says one of the funniest lines in the game. I'm paraprhasing but she basically says the only reason Doreen was so bitter was because Lynx fucked her. Or something to that effect.

You can shake down the rich couple in Balime for cash.

If you are attacked by bloodcats hide in water they won't attack you there.

If you sell Flo to the Hillbillies Speck has a hilarious reply.

When you are going to hire Fox wait about a minute. She then says "You're not wearing pants are you?" before she hangs up. Additionally if you do these with some Mercs they will either raise or lower their price depending on their experience.

So what are some of your favorites.

  4. There are a ton of small easter eggs like that. Like if you shoot Shank in front of his parents in Balime his mother has a heart attack. Or if you put down a porno mag in a combat zone an enemy will investigate and pick it up making it easier to pull in hallways.

Maybe I'll make an easter egg thread and see if there are some that I missed.

  5. I think being turn based is going to be the main mechanic for combat. But I thought we were talking about out of combat to make it easier to position Mercs and setup ambushes. That way you can easily and clearly setup your spots and take out enemies once combat begins.

    - the battlefield is not based on a checkerboard pattern, so you can move freely.

So that seems like it will be similar to D:OS2 or BG3. They use free movement systems and it's wonderful.

Keep it weird and funny because the tone of the newest games (especially Rage) isn't really, in my mind, similar to what we got with JA2.

  7. One of the funniest things ever in JA is when you pop a baddies head and Trevor goes "Strewth...I'm about to lose me brekkie!"  Or really just knowing that once you shoot Pablo things go better for your gun shipments. It's the small details that really made JA2 shine as a game.

So, Owlcat (the developers of Pathfinder: Kingmaker & Wrath of the Righteous are developing a Warhammer 40k CRPG.

I am not deeply familiar with all the lore of W40k but I think this could be a interesting game.

One of the best games I've ever played is 40K: Mechanicus (steam page). It's a turn based tactical game that throws you into the deep end in terms of lore but has a pretty good learning curve for the mechanics. Mechanicus really brought the "grimdark" back to the gaming-verse of 40K which is event right from the opening sequence. The squads, equipment, and items are very customizable while you can use a lot of different play styles to defeat the enemy. But the best thing about this game is the story. It's amazing. It does have a few negative marks against it (very grindy and can be incredibly repeatative sometimes) but of all the 40K video games out there I wish this one has a sequel.

There are tons of 40K turn-based and real-time strategy games with the newest one being ChaosGate - Daemonhunters (highly recommend it but have a beefy GPU). The only one I would stay away from is Dawn of War III as it completely changed both the tone of the series and lots of the mechanics that made the first two amazing.

Let me know if you need anymore recommendations.

  9. Easily my favorite weapon in any of the vanilla games (1-BIA) is the M14. You can put that weapon into the hands of any competent marksman and you have devastating combination. Reaper + M14 + Flash Hider + Rooftop = Headshot city.

In 1.13 the best weapon is easily the AI AWM. That platform is so OP it isn't even fair for the hapless NPCs. Sure it's expensive to shoot and requires constant maintenance to keep it accurate but having an overwatch fireteam paired with a two full squads on the ground and you can pretty much take care of anything.

  10. Oh man... so many to choose from but my absolute favorite Merc is Reaper. He's expensive but well worth the money and if you use him in 1.13 then you get a heavy hitter with a high power designated marksmen role. You can't really use him until late mid to endgame but it's such a pleasure to pair him up with Shadow or Scope for a hard core spotting team.

Second favorite is Len for his uses in both combat and training. Giving him a job in Alma to train up your low level mercs or recruited NPCs is a cheap and easy way to power level people like Ira or Dynamo. He also in a pinch can be fire support with grenade launchers or LAWs.  He's great all around.

Third is going to be Igor. He's incredibly cheap to start with, is liked by his legendary uncle and says the funny shit sometimes. He's also great to have in each stage of the game because he is able to be trained quickly and gains experience easily. Once he's in the 90's with marksmanship you can give him a heavy rifle and he'll come through in nearly every encounter while always punching a hole in urban sectors.

  11. By active pause you mean while in tactical map? I don't see a reason why it couldn't be a toggle option when you create a game. I see ironman mode having it disabled.  Hardcore Ironman would have no active pause, no quicksave, no quickload, with weapon spread being sparse.

I personally would love to have it for a casual game cause sometimes you just need to mow down enemies.
