The main mistake of the creators of the game is that Ivan was supposed to become the main antagonist. Starting from the second part of Jagged Alliance, the player, with the help of mercenaries, fights against authoritarian regimes and, in fact, brings democratic values to the enslaved peoples. The USSR has always done the opposite. That's why, Ivan with his hammer and sickle on his hat, as the savior of the oppressed people, is nonsense.

Again, again an idiot troll in the thread - cool democracy in Vietnam or Iraq from USA and how bad was communism in Baltic countries with all those factories they have got after USSR) Amd this list can be extended - tell me about "bright democracy" in Lybia? Please, also remind - who saved Cuba when they needed it? And who was waiting for 43 year to open western front? Who is bulding up hidden biological laboratories with unallowed viruses and who is helping ofiicial Syrian goverment to stop terrrorists there? USA sucks, that's all. USSR was a very good country with peacefull intentions to build up a fair society where everyone is equal while USA are doing only one thing - war for resources to be rich at the expense of other countries.

Here is a quote from the JA2 game, so you should understand that clear - on the attached screenshot.

JA is about mercenaries who are fighting for money, that's all - they are asking for more and more money, they refuse to work wihtout money and do not care much about population - it is fine for them to shoot everyone down if only commander wishs so.

But again, its not about the people who "really want to play the game".
It's about the people who don't know Jagged Alliance yet and need to be convinced to try it.

The only potential positive outcome could be seen in "any press is good press", if it should make headlines somewhere because of it. But I don't think that's the way to go.

If you are a normal person - you won't be offended of Ican on the cover. If you are idiot - you won't be interested in JA3, it is that simple.

Some people in this thread aren't being very realistic. I hate all this cancel culture crap, but keeping Ivan on the front cover is simply bad for business right now. It's not worth the risk of losing sales to an army of negative review bombers. Many people might decide not to try the game if it seems pro-Russian.

"The Gaming Industry Unites to Cut Off Russia

Ubisoft, EA, Epic, Microsoft, and others are suspending business in the country in response to its invasion of Ukraine."

    https://www.wired.com/story/gaming-industry-unites-russia/

"As of August 19, we are tracking 1219 companies, of which 882 are pulling out of Russia, and 337 holdouts..."

    https://www.coalitionforukraine.com/video_games

All of the listed companies have lost business in Russia and they do not have any chance to return back. THQ has a great chance to do the right thing and stay beyond this shit, the used Ivan before the specoperation began - normal peiple, who really want to play the game will buy it anyway.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it in this topic, but if you watch the new trailer quite carefully, you can see the text box next to the character's avatars several times. This means that there will only be text or that the character's dialogue lines have not yet been recorded.

In JA2 there were both text boxes and voices speches too. So, voicing is still have a chance.

Maybe the topic starter is indeed a troll. But I do think there is a valid point.

And this isn't about cancel culture. It's about common sense.
You also wouldn't want to have Grunty on the cover wearing an armband with a swastika for some reason.

And on the opposite, I am against trying to bring todays political correctness in the game.

It is about cancell culture itself. Soviet symbols are not related to nazim while svastika is banned everywhere, it is like lets ban Russia flag from the internet. Or do you want to call all soviet people = nazists? So, you are calling those, who assaulted Berlin and finished with Hitler nazists, right? Those, who leberated Europe? Coooooool, mad world...

Soviet union lost more that enyone else during 2nd World War - now in 2022 people think they are the same as nazi Gwermany...

Which either way is irrelevant for the discussion though.

It is relevant of course, if you are touching politics - so, everything which is politics will be included in such a discussion.

I see Fidel in the cover - he is from Cuba, you should know that Cuba is officially the enemy of the western "civilised: countries. Let ban him too, why not?

Or Tex - he is also very offensive character, he is asian who speaks like a cowboe, Bith americans and asians can be offended.

Or this girl from Israel (I do not know the name) - do you know how much children in Palestina were killed by Israel army? Lets ban her too.

lets ban AK47 from the game- it is soviet symbol and legacy.

Leave everything as it is - independently of what you are doing, there are people who will be 100% offended of something.

JA ia a game full of ironic and black humor, it is not a politicians battlefield. Ivan is an iconic character, he looks great on that poster and only one person on the internet offended by him is a topic-starter-troll.

  7. Why not go on and ban Ivan from the game? And add a Micola, an Ukranian merc who will say "Slava Ukraine!" each time he kills somebody?

Sounds absurd? Yes, it sounds the same as to be offended because of Ivan on the cover or in the game - this is an iconic character who is not connceted in any way to the modern history, moreover - people love to play him.

Also, russian JA community might be the biggest one all around the world - russians created significant amount of mods for this game (everyone knows Nigth Ops, for example), so ye, let's show these people that they are bad just because they were born in Russia. And do not foget to delete Ivan from both JA1 and JA2 and release a deletion patch in Steam and GOG!

This political sheet is everywhere nowadays, STOP pushing it into vedeogames! If you want to proof someone something - go one, you have a great opportunity and join any army on your chose and do that on the real battlefield.

P.S. "Bad" commies created everythung in Ukrain, just everything - all factories, which were sold now by ukranian presidents, agricultural industry was created by commies, ports, which are used to ship goods and these sheeps too - everything was created by commies in Ukrain, even weapons with which armies are fighting at the moment - this all is a communists legacy independantly, if you like them or not. Think about that.
