I struggled for hours with this, trying all sorts of stuff. In System>Sound>All Sound Devices>Properties, I switched to 24-bit, 48kHz and turned "Audio Enhancements" to OFF. This finally fixed it for me! -

Same problem here! Reading the various game boards (steam, reddit) this is a semi-common problem.
