  1. i honestly don't get the discussion on the portraits that pops up again and again. in JA2, as far as we can see it, we see the face, neck and a bit of the shoulders. If you look at the JA2 portraits you can roughly categorize it:

    - Military --> Ivan, Igor, Len, Fidel
    - Office --> Buns, Grunty, Stephen, Sidney
    - Plain-clothed --> Lynx, Ice, Hitman, Red, Magic
    - Work-related --> Dr. Q, Cliff, Trevor

And than there is a bunch i can't just see good enough to categorize. In-game it was just diffirent coloured pants, t-shirts and tank-tops.

So how we percieve the JA2 characters is mostly dialogue, flavour text and personal memory (like how well prepared they were and having the right gear up for a war zone).

For JA3 references are being made about mercenary movies. In each and every single one of those movies the mercenaries are under equipped for a warzone especially armor wise. Because if you put em all in full military gear you loose the personalities.

I think most of the portaits i've seen in JA3 can be categorized the same way as JA2. For me only one of them stands out negatively and that's Magic, looking like a 70's pimp or something.

  2. I like how it looks so far and am confident that i's will be dotted and t's will be crossed before launch. The devs seems to try to do right by the Jagged Alliance legacy, albeit that legacy is somewhat tarnished over the last few years. They seem to put in a lot effort to whipe that slate clean.

It's not going to be a JA2 v1.13 #3 but it's going to be JA3. I hope it will be well recieved on it's release and that it is going to be a solid fundament where can be expanded upon.

  3. Thanks for sharing @Wigen, the article mentions:

Its roster of 40 mercs are all fully voiced, with personalities that may clash against each other. And, in the spirit of the original games, they're hired diegetically—this time through an early 2000s version of the internet. The strategy layer is also classic Jagged Alliance: a dynamic map that tracks and simulates both the missions you deploy your mercs on, and the enemy force's attempts to retake what was once theirs; where intel you find in missions can provide hints at where and when to go to discover sidequests and opportunities.

So great news i should say.

While I can't wait to answer all your questions, we are still waiting for green light from THQ marketing and really can't talk about anything specific before we have permission. My personal expectation is that specific information will be coming soon, but I have been wrong before 🙂

August 26th, that qualifies as soon right

  5. So i played through Hard West 2, and i wonder if you can get the friend status on all allies in a single playthrough?

Very entertaining game, like the atmosphere. It pushes you in a particular kind of playstyle when you want to get the most out of each mission (side objectives). i can see that for some people this could gamebreaking, i however got weirdly competetive.

Also wished there would we some kind of newgame+ where you could play through the game again with all the cards you collected and the cool weaponry.

  6. Warning: you must be at least 18 years old, relatively sane of mind, and have no more than two felony convictions in any given country to gain acces to this site.

So far i haven't seen any of the witty and sharp dialogue in between mercenaries. But hummor is subjective and maybe some others encountered diffirent things. Still the above line gave me some hope that they will put in the 'right' kind of humor, the one that is on par with JA2.

For me the thing that made JA2 special was the interactions between mercenaries and the nagging about trivial stuff as the weather, dispite being in a very serious and life threatening situation. So the mercenaries should be real characters who portray the many cultureral you speak off. But i'm kind off afraid that won't be woke in this day and age. Which for better or worse is also subjective.

For me those things outweigh some of the mechanics stuff (i think).

  7. I hope the game gets proper voice acting. That's one of the only concern i have thusfar. Trailer looks good and i have good hopes for Haemimont Games to pull Jagged Alliance into the 21st century, in a way that truly could be a reboot for the game. For me it looks like there is passion in this project and therefore being more than just a skin for X-COM.
