... and the man wants a demo.

If you are for now not a clear No-Go, I'd say that's the green light for buying the game. 40 bucks, come on man.

I think they did pretty well with the weapon showcase for a change.

But when looking in detail, animations still dassle me. Take @1.42 for example. Vicki (the Rasta - thought she ought to be a mechanic and glamorous girl in the past...) is emptying two clips at an enemy who just stands there like a wall and doesn't respond at all to most of the impact.

Also.. good to see they did something with the massive critism about how they portrayed Magic... NOT.
Running around in a hostile area with his sneakers, blazer and fancy baret.. 🤮

Agree, this animations-on-impact absolutely need an upgrade to create more immersion for the player. Showing blood stains on impact would also be great, just SOMETHING.

I will not have Merc in my team; want to build an army of warriors not salsa teachers.

  2. After reconsideration of Strength I will very likely gonna pick one character (thinking about Steroid who seems to have the most strength) as part of my starting squad. The higher the strength, the more goods I can carry and the more money I can earn early on. That's my reasoning.

I can also see myself later on training my squad to improve strength skill so the pro mercs I have by then have bigger backpacks.

"Strength / hire-cost" can be another interesting number; which merc has the most strength for the best buck.

These are mechanics I absolutely think about already

  3. There are a gazillion of golden nuggets out here for the dev team. A loud cry-for-help from the veteran community; the players who have crystal clear how a worthy JA3 would look like. The vibe I'm getting more and more is a new dev team that tries to reinvent the wheel and has the space to add in some experimental things. All good and great, but without a solid check-in with the community here on this platform (it is literally here), then don't be disappointed if this experiment doesn't result in the dream outcome as desired.

Supporting a dev time out of pity will never be one of my personal motivators. That's also imo not how the world works.

People who buy the game, buy it, should not complain, and buy it when the value exceeds the price. (I'm in this category)
People who believe the value doesn't exceed the price, should not buy it. Buy and complaining is stupidity.

Is there room for improvement; yes.

That's why I stated from the beginning; I would have loved to see a game that lives up to a 60-70 USD price, and I am still dead serious on it.

Neah, I'll wait a little longer. Not impressed with what I've seen so far.

Too much Tropico, too little JA.

Pretty sure the game will be available on Steam sale later this year.

I've done several pre-orders before and most of them were mistakes where devs failed to deliver.

Besides, no offence, but a professional company that can't even write their website description in proper English (mind you, it's not my native language either but I ain't no professional) doesn't convince me these guys will be able to fix all current shortcomings too.

I likely buy just before release date, if my game mojo is still up in 5 weeks from now.
I expect a 7/10 game, worth the bucks for one playthrough, on highest difficulty.

Then I hope for a kickass 9/10 Jagged Alliance 4 game, like Diablo-4 did compared to D3, where I hope they built on this -already built- JA3 engine and then REALLY listen to community and fix all this major things. But yes, these are MY WISHES, and I do also like to state the following. JA3 dev team is not JA2 dev team. Games and gaming community changed massively in the last decade. Then I also like to draw the comparison with a music band, let's say Metallica. There is an album. There is a genre. And yes, we want a band to grow, that means do new things, and this can go two ways. Then there is inspiration. Then there is band stuff happening, on top of personal life stuff. Then there are record labels. Then there is the not homogenous fan-base. Then there is the market with other existing like-minded bands. So yeah, all factor in for a final new direction, new album, new evolution of the band. Something similar happens in my opinion with such game dev. And guys, don't forget. We all have our individual wishes. In the end we have the choice; you either buy the game, and are satisfied enough with what you buy, OR, you just don't buy it.

I did a similar thing with Company of Heroes 3 last fall (release was then postpponed to february this year) and there are no other words, better for it than Cartmans:

Youtube - Cartman explains what you get with pre-ordering

That being said - sometimes you just know you'll buy something and take the leap of faith.

Make a correct distinction between A. Sjait game dev status on release date, versus, B. The pre-order system in general.

  6. On-topic: Voice acting, from what Iv'e heard in the Dev streams they go voice act everyone, maybe or maybe not everything and all dialogues, but overall it will have the feel that 'all is voice acted', that's how I remembered it ---correct me if I'm wrong.

Now that they've got voices, what about animating the portraits? bring a little life to them while they are talking.

Also it helps show if their morale is happy or sad, angry or injured. What do you guys think?

Yes, but I believe there are much other priorities; explosion effects on people, impact on hit, no diplicate animation when 2 people next to each other die, and many more.

  8. 7 / 10.

Inventory system, overwatch system, cartoony overall vibe, mercs w more friendly characters, no mines inside houses, more advanced crafting system.... these are all opportunities to uplift the score

Actually from what I've seen hacking comes in handy but doesn't bring you that much money. The point is that your new contractor seems to be much more involved in your operations than Enrico. Instead of one-time payment you get some extra cash for certain achievements as you move through the main questline. So liberating the very first settlement brings you like $30k. But these payments are scarce — you get $30k in advance, extra $30k on day 1 or 2 and that's pretty much it.

In fact out of three streamers I've watched closely only one was doing good on the financial side. Ironically it was the one I mentioned — I mixed him up with another guy, sorry for that. Still while he was doing just fine the second one was struggling and the third one ran out of money in less than a month despite such a generous gift from the contractor.

So looks like the best way to prosper in JA3 is hiring a cheap squad, giving your mercs long-term contracts, not wasting bonus money and moving slowly until you secure at least two mines.

Agree w mentioned strategy. And maybe difference in difficulty that caused some money stress (which I personally like).

As i commented in this topic before, though the question was which would be your first team (A-Team), so the headline should be what will be your starting team ?

Okay, my starting team, 4 (or 3) mercs:

    Best value for my buck strategy;

Markmanship: skill as high as possible: Raven (skill 94, for $12,160), if not Hitman (skill 88 for $6,630), if not Ice (skill 87 for $7,200). Note: I pass on Steroid.

Medic: 80+; MD (skill 81, for $3,770), if not Dr. Q (skill 88 for $8,600).

Explosives; Barry (skill 92 for $2,990, massively underpriced). Also 92 gives opportunity to grow, I believe an already 100 maxed out guy misses earning exp points, correct?

Mechanic: Livewire (skill 85 for $4,600), if not Steroid (skill 76 for $5,100).

If Steroid needs to be recruited, I skip the marksmanship guy. If not, there will be 4 mercs.

  11. I throw the (I expect by then updated merc stats) in the spreadsheet, make some calculations for "markmanship per usd", best value/cost doc / medic / mechanic, not on the compromise of ending up with a wankass character, and go from there as a starting point. 2 or 3, not more,  as a start (less inventory management).

    Raven prime candidate for mm.

    Hitman as well.

As of now, leader of the 2nd squad is likely gonna be Raider (high leadership for quicker sector traveling)
