  1. Fun idea, but I think it needs an example of what people are 100 at a given area... If we're talking about Olympic gold medalists I doubt anyone on a JA forum should score more than 40 at anything 😄 Any silver medalists around?

For example I'm a pretty decent shot... for a civilian... in a country with low access to recreational shooting ranges. I imagine at least half of trained people shoot better than me, then there's average Americans, American enthusiasts, biathlon athletes, law enforcement, military, special forces, sniper school graduates, snipers with a movie about them, record holders... Sooo... I'm a solid 10?

If an MP mode was added, it should be added later after the successful debut of the single player mode.

Sure, I agree. Why would it stay strictly single player though? Commandos 2 is a single-player game, yet it has an excellent co-op option that doesn't harm the game in anyway.

Versus and other modes might get more complicated, yes, but as you said, after a good start, there's plenty to be explored.

You mean something like XCOM2 and War of The Chosen (which was better then the vanilla imo.)

Well, War of the Chosen is a different way of money grabbing. They released some content that dramatically changes how the game plays and said "Well this is essentially a new game" and priced it much higher than regular DLC and excluded it from any complete editions.

Xcom: Enemy Within is DLC with less content, which they did not release for PS3 at all. They bundled it with the core game for the new console generation only. So if played the Vanilla and wanted to add just Enemy Within you couldn't. You had to buy the game at full price again. Same story with Reaper of Souls. The Necromancer DLC was more of the War of The Chosen sort of trick.

    I will surely preorder directly 2 CD´s

Preordering and backing previous attempts at JA did not work great the last couple of times. If they pull it off, fantastic! A Bulgarian studio, with a successful sequel to a legendary game? Sure! I'll buy a console copy and a PC copy to support them. But if it's no good... I will pick it up on PSN sale when I've got nothing better to play, like I did with JA Rage.

  4. A lie? 😄 What do you think this forum is, Conor? Can I call you Conor?  Am I your father? Do you trust me?

Why did you censor your curse word? Are you worried that a bot would automatically ban you? Do you think a person will ban you despite of the asterisks?

An opinion is an opinion. You can't do anything about it.

why there's no console-vs-PC tournaments because mouse users smoke console users every time

Oh, no! Haemimond, don't you make any JA3 cross-platform tournaments! Conor said that would be unfair!

When I look up "divinity 2 console version"

Your research skills don't interest me. Anyone who has played anything on console and PC can make up their own mind about JA3 on consoles.

It seems your problem is not even with consoles, but rather the lack of a mouse. In this case, you tell 'em, Conor! No gamepad support on PC, no Steam Deck, no PlayStation and Xbox! Let go of that market! Bad developer! Bad!

At one point I was wondering why do old games like Jagged Alliance 2 and Fallout feel so much more immersive to me than modern realistic 3D games

3D graphics have been trying to catch up to 2D for a long time. The most painful instances were the years when popular franchises transitioned. Heroes of Might and Magic is a perfect example. A third dimension was a lot to ask from both the hardware and the artists. Now it isn't. Watch the video about turning Diablo 2 from isometric to 3D for the Resurrected release. They built an instant switch between the old and new graphics. Using it, I noticed exactly what you are saying. I remembered the game looking exactly like the remaster, when it really looked a lot worse and only switching between the two proved that to me.

It's like cameras and HDR. How come my camera can't capture what my eyes are seeing? It has to combine multiple exposures to come close. Is the human eye that much better than a DSLR? It's actually the brain that does all the work instantly faking HDR - filling in the gaps between what is seen and how you think it would look up close and in detail.

Some games do amazing with very low detail. Journey, Pirates: Outlaws, Lara Croft: Go, Breath of the Wild... and of course the ones that go for 2D pixel art like Songs of Conquest which is NOT low on detail at all.

I don't think JA3 would suffer from realistic detailed 3D graphics, like Back in Action did. It's just one more indicator that it isn't the graphics that makes the game good or bad.

XCOM Enemy Within or was it Enemy Unknown

Two different games when it comes to consoles. Enemy Unknown was on PS3 and if you wanted that extra content of Enemy Within, you had to buy the whole thing on PS4. Diablo 3 pulled off the same trick, unfortunately.

    even more cartoony

Yes, nothing matches the tone and enjoyment of JA2, as you noticed, I looked. Xcom is the revival of the genre and JA3 (if it carries enough of JA2) could become best in genre again. I doubt this would happen if it remains a PC exclusive for long, though.

As far as I'm concerned 2 and 3 were both crowdfunded, I sincerely don't have any info regarding the first one.

Here are the links, if you are interested to check:

    Wasteland 2: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2

    Wasteland 3: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/wasteland-3

And I agree that is better to experience the game on pc with mouse and keyboard, but considering my pc is a triassic machine, if the game could come to consoles, It would save me a lot of money.

I played Wasteland 2 on console, as well. XCOM: Enemy Within, XCOM 2, Othercide, Phoenix Point, Divinity: Original Sin II, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Into the Breach, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, Gears Tactics and Jagged Alliance: Rage! all play fine on console.

Small developers (much smaller than Haemimont) released Castle Crashers, Fez, Braid, Super Meat Boy, The Witness, Stardew Valley, Slay the Spire, Among Us, Darkest Dungeon and many more on consoles with tiny budgets and millions of copies sold.

Although I hear Commandos 2 on consoles kept all the PC bugs after so many years, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III are excellent on consoles. So are Civilization VI, Crusader Kings 3, Bad North, Frostpunk and Northgard.

A mouse gives you a quicker more precise reaction, which only matters in competitive multiplayer shooters. Even then, developers implement cross-platform play with a gamepads only matchmaking option. For people whose religion forbids anything, but mice, developers enable mouse and keyboard use on consoles. Because it's up to them and not the platform manufacturer.

Mouse and keyboard work on consoles, but not every game supports them.

No game is mouse-dependent anymore than flight games are Joystick dependent.

    10-year-long roadmap

It's Longevity versus Staying True to the initial vision. That risk applies to JA, too. Especially with post launch content... 4 yearly season passes and bunches of DLC... the Firaxis way with both Civ and Xcom. I hate it, but it sells.

  9. 22 minutes ago, WILDFIRE said:

@SWi74: I am also a Rainbow Six veteran since over 20 years so I like the grounded realistic combat and outfits from the beginning of this series.

The first years of Siege were really great. Intense battles and mostly realistic operators. As you said some soldiers would fit in the JA universe.

But later on they created colorful over the top characters which do not fit in a realistic setting. The balance must be right and the same applies to JA3.

It had a lot to do with the dev exhausting viable ideas AND player behavior. Dev announced pretty early on that they are planning 100 operators within a 10-year-long roadmap. You can only keep it realistic with the characters for so long, before adding more "distinct" faces and outfits. The other factor that shifted direction are the players. From slow, clever, flanking, avoiding direct firefights to rush and die, twitch crouching, spawn peaking, high-risk play styles... and if dead... alt+tab to watch youtube... in a game where killed players can support their team with surveillance...

It's sad, but in a way the player base deserves the game they end up with.

  10. Agreed. I wish it comes out on consoles for similar reasons. If they figure out good gamepad/joycon controls, it's all down to performance. Steam Deck runs some heavy games as far as I know, so even if it is beyond the capabilities of the Switch, it should be fine on consoles and Steam Deck.

  11. Yeah, multiplayer has been on my wishlist ever since I played fake coop JA2 with my brother (we would simply hand over the controls for different mercs).

Xcom had a versus and it was exciting, but very broken. You couldn't finish a single match without a crash at least on PlayStation.

    Greetings!

I am completely new to the series, but a big fan of turned based combat experiences.

Do you guys think Jagged Alliance 3 will be ported to consoles after the PC release?

I really would like to hear your sayings.

I do apologize in advance for eventual mistakes in my writing, english is not my primary language.

It is very likely. Previous JA game by the same publisher THQ Nordic was on consoles. The developers previous game Tropico has also been released on previous and current gen.

The dev's website has a recent position for a Console/Engine Programmer.

Rainbow Six Siege for example had mostly realistic operators that were grounded in reality in the first years but later they added colorful characters with crazy abilities that did not fit in the world anymore.

Agree. It was disappointing when it shifted from "yeah, this could actually happen" to "this is near future fiction" and finally "all backgrounds and personalities have their place in an elite counter-terrorist sports tournament with forced lore about family drama".

The very first year was amazing both as very intense gameplay and more serious tone aesthetics. Back then I thought their kind of roster could make an awesome JA style spin off game.

Then it wanted to be more like Overwatch... I could guess some of their reasons, but I don't think they apply to the JA universe.

I think characters should be on the serious side, especially when in combat. Maybe some will have a more casual attitude when relaxed, but that should be because they haven't had much experience with... war... veterans should behave professionally and that doesn't have to subtract from their personality and flavor.

The ironman mode is one of the best ways to play. Real consequences for the player AND for the character. This should be reflected in their voices and behavior however colorful they might have been.

  14. If it is successful enough and wants be more successful, it will release on consoles for sure. Most devs make a port with the money from initial release.

Some are quite buggy or bad (Commandos 2, I hear is one example), others (probably most) have to make sacrifices or at least trade offs (Diablo games inventory looks a lot worse (circular for more thumb stick control) and less satisfying, BUT movement and aim is better with a gamepad).

I had doubts about certain games. Civilization VI port turned out great. I want to see how Anno 1800 (announced on consoles) will handle the added complexity of being real time.

JA3 is turn based. It should be great on consoles, although interface (especially inventory) might suffer a bit.

I want to play all of the above on console. I would make an exception for a good JA game and maybe sit on my aging PC, but if there is a console version I would 100% prefer it. In no small part, due to trophies.

I think trophies/achievements are largely misunderstood. They aren't digital pats on the back for wasting hours on something pointless. Nintendo doesn't have them cause "playing the game should be its own reward".

Trophies are a collection of gaming memories unified on a single platform. You get ALL trophies for the games you love. You do everything there is to be done in a game to get that sense of completion and move on to another title.

It's not about being rewarded, but rewarding the devs by experiencing all their quests and Easter eggs, lore, challenge.

It's great marketing for Sony/Microsoft keeping your lifelong collection AND a great opportunity for devs to show wit. No, they are not a lot of work. This kind of game already MUST have the events (hidden, difficult, variable or standard). Then it's just a matter of triggering it "Ding! Hey, you found it!".

And that's why I can't make myself play anything on the switch, which can be played on PlayStation.

You carry individual magazines and clips and can load various bullet types in the same magazine..

Love the idea of having magazines as equipment. Haven't played it anywhere, but it fits the JA style perfectly. The actual metal holding the rounds is pretty valuable. Most guns would have just one and a spare should be a rare find to celebrate.

Also it would increase the value of a merc's initial equipment. I always hated buying their original rifles and be out of bullets by the second combat sector. If I could hold on to their mags however, that would be more equipment worth keeping.

I mean, I could take overwatch and other changes, even if those wouldn't be my favorite.. but perks, classes and unlocks. NO THANK YOU!

Custom abilities? Yeah, I mean I could wrap my head around it if it was abilities that more than one merc might have. Yes, I agree @Kordanor, mercs in Ja2 did have some unique "abilities", like Shadows Camo... but the "Abilities" we're very passive bonuses, not unique features that only applied to one merc.

I would hate abilities that you pick as you gain experience. Today you can throw 2 grenades, but couldn't yesterday...

    I would hate activated abilities.

I would hate abilities that somehow buff your stats for a number of turns.

JA2's skill are good. Permanent. Initial. Like education irl. You hire a merc with them and because of them. They should not be obtainable during the course of the game.

I would be ok with unique abilities related to hardware (equipment). Like Siege, some operators have a gadget they can wield. Other mercs could equip it, but should be bad at it.

It should be skills that effect stats, not abilities that provide new capability.

  17. 52 minutes ago, Acid said:

Yeah I'd be more worried if it was the actual developer who hadn't played JA2.

Same. Which is not the case. I think they are familiar enough having made this trailer version, including JA2 mercs and claiming it will be a true successor. They are not taking part in any of the forums obviously and I'm starting to think they shouldn't. Half of the stuff here isn't answerable anyway.

  18. I don't mind the overwatch. It is a lot more realistic, too. I don't see it as a huge departure from interrupts.

The grenades can also be made to miss while displaying a representation of what the merc is aiming to achieve.

However you have turned my attention to something that I think is worse, than all wrongs discussed combined.

Is that an ABILITY Fidel has? Don't you think that's terrible? Unique abilities to merc I mean. That's the most new-Xcom simplification so far. Shouldn't all mercs be capable of the same basic actions with different levels/chances of success? Two frags at the same time... no-one would ever do that irl, but every person with two hands would be capable of trying to do it.

I would hate to see unique character abilities define who the merc is and how he'd be used...

  19. Well it was always a long shot.

But I think a series talking about guns in games must include a JA2 mention even if lost in the comments somewhere... so no regrets there 😄 would have commented even without the forum.

To be honest I think marketing should be pushing for similar promotion. I can't say they are doing much. I found out about JA3 by seeing an IGN article thumbnail "Everything Announced at THQ Event"... I wouldn't even stop scrolling if had I not known that JA rights are with THQ. I don't like anything else they have. I thought "oooh, maybe they would decide to give JA another go, let's see the announced titles real quick" and there it was...

No wonder the community is so slim.

Let them release the game in Early Access

Early Access is good for business, getting people to talk about it, but terrible for game quality. It's a way to sell it before it's ready and an excuse for everything wrong with it - "oh it's just not ready yet"

That would have been a cool easter egg, however nowadays even large studios can't seem to keep launch dates they've decided on just a couple of months back. To stamp the release date on the reveal image would mean they are 95% ready with the game.

I often say the same thing, and I think we're a bunch that feel the same way.

But to be honest, when I REALLY think about it, I DON'T just want JA2 in a modern engine.

I think it's natural to want to settle with something decent and then heighten your requirements rather quickly. It's like not owning a car and being happy to get a small older one. In an year you would probably want a bigger, nicer vehicle...

Given the failures so far, we'd all feel lucky with a JA2 copy. I agree with you - it will be a success, but a short lived one.

The new Diablo 2 is gorgeous... but it was still Diablo 2 exactly. Giving us an open beta was a mistake... I was fed up with it in 2 hours and I will not buy it. I've played it a thousand times and frankly my brain always rendered it in my memory the way it looks now. I would have sworn it's the same graphics if there wasn't a switch between new and old graphics implemented 😄 .
