I still don't see that as a problem. If you decide to have them at the same scale, you make the hand slots larger. It doesn't need to be like Heroes III inventory hand slots, when Diablo 2 inventory hand slots better serve your mechanic.

Ja2 uses large slots for hands. It's not an issue if it was the kind of system you wanted to have in the game.

    Sorry to hear that.

It doesn't have to be ugly though. I could look just as it does now with adjustment to how it works. Glock is 1 square, taurus is 2, m14 is 3, Barret is 4. And they would all look like they exist in the same world.

If there are limits to weight, why shouldn't there be limits to volume or at least length...

It's just a mechanic I would have appreciated, especially because of allowing uniform scale for items. No need to get "but Deus is ugly" about it.

    Bro that would not work.

Well it could, having been done in both Deus Ex and its remake. But probably won't. Too late for such a change.

But I don't fully get your argument. You can either carry a Barret or 7 handguns. Why should all pockets (slots) be 1 size fits all?

    Great dev diary!

I didn't dare think you might be able to display guns as well as new Modern Warfare games do, but here we are. It's an impressive part of the game.

I absolutely agree that portraits of mercs should be in different scale to keep the same badge dimensions. However, for weapons I would have preferred keeping a uniform scale. It really takes away from the representation of each weapon. The Barret appearing as long as the M14, the revolver appearing as small as the Glock and both weapons loosing significant amount of detail... trigger guards barely visible... I can't say I like it. The whole concept of carrying an anti-tank rifle should look and feel as insane as it sounds. I wish the slot size would change in accordance to the actual weapon. It's probably an interface nightmare, but worth it imho.

I always loved original Deus Ex inventory. Backpacks could have used that same concept.

For us all to spread out from this forum and begin conquering other forums

Wait... you mean like the guy who won't shut up about Dark Descent compared to JA3 even though it's a very different game?

    Yeah, I don't think so...

Anyone else has any info on the "a few days early"?

If there is a pre-order option it has to have some kind of bonus, otherwise there's 0 reason for anyone to pre-order.

Early access is done by a lot of games. I don't think it will be the case with JA3. They should give pre-order option, but maybe choose a different bonus. Maybe a cosmetic skin... Tactical outfit for Tex, anyone?

  7. That would actually be a very good summery of this forum for those of us that don't have the time (and don't want to) to read 10 pages of "devs MUST do that", "it's too expensive, but I will buy it", "CtH or devs are stupid" on every topic.

The problem is that the author has to be:

    1. Sane.

    2. Not formulating biased answers according to own views.

    3. Willing to spend a bunch of their time for a tiny ungrateful bunch for free.

    Really? What do you do?

When you make cards with the same size and they have content of different sizes it's much better to scale the content.

Keeping the same scale for all faces would look a lot worse. You have to make all faces really small in order to accommodate the largest face. If a bald guy and a guy with an Afro were same scale most cards would be almost empty. It's the same with document pictures, badges, products, etc. You can't keep the same card size and the same scale for the content. THAT would actually be unprofessional.

Either way it really doesn't have to do with pricing.

Triple A games launch at 70 USD and I would much rather get this so 45 sounds good to me. And if it turns out well, I'd gladly pay 70 to support them, regardless of what it cost them. If 45 doesn't reflect the quality they achieved, that's easily solvable, too. Don't buy it. Get the other game you mentioned and be happy. It really doesn't look better to me, though.

it shouldn't even be a conversation

Yes, it's a poll. They should give the option to disable posts and voting be the focus of the topic. That said, other people are enabling a single person go on trolling. Ignore list him and let him talk to himself... Or continue arguing for 10 more pages irrelevant to the poll.

Brilliant! I thought this feature must exist for this type of situation, but I looked on the troll's profile. The Ignore list is actually on our own profiles. This makes things a LOT more readable, thanks.

  11. I was just gonna say that. If you don't want trolls hijacking a topic with 150 posts per day with their 4th account, just make polls. Add more questions to the polls, make the answers clear, even yes/no like @DougS2K did AND make voters public for extra accuracy with known toxic accounts.

  12. Man, this forum turned into a dump rather quickly, because of a handful of trolls and "experts". I understand the devs not wanting to engage here at all during the first months.

"They made a mistake!" and "I'm disappointed" topics, seriously?

Anyway, to get back on topic:

Best dev diary so far. Everything from graphics to mechanics, direction and gameplay feel seems extremely professional and thought out. These are the only two things I care about, actually.

I love that the process led you to an unpopular decision and you made it anyway. I will choose the game a designer wanted to make over the game that most people "demanded", any day!

Oh... yes, totally, you're right. I never thought about it this way. And you think @Hendrix still thinks it is? I assumed you knew the guy and his infamous number 2 habits during stressful situations.

Wow, I did. This is terrible. But I still can't tell who has shit in their pants. Out of the 300,000 real (non-video game) people, that died in the last year, how many do you recon were first time combatants? How many of them are you "pretty sure" died, shitting their pants?

It would be cool if they ported to PS4/PS5 and allowed the use of the touchpad as a mouse input

I think the touch-pad is fairly useless on gamepads. Most games use it as a normal button or a directional swipe at most. It's too small of an area. And even if it wasn't, would you play with a cursor without the precision and speed of an actual mouse? They have reached a point where no cursor interfaces are everywhere and are efficient.

There's fun things they can do with the heptics and adaptive triggers on DS and even bring them to PC, though.

For those needing a mouse to play the game, they can just allow mouse + keyboard controls.

As its 1 of our main topics, what kind of mercs we would like to see

I always thought Roy Dupuis' Michael was one of the baddest operatives of that age. Guy couldn't express emotions, he was that professional in a field he did not choose. He would be expensive. Nikita? Sure! A lot cheaper, unprofessional, insubordinate, colorful, but perfect for other missions.

Even Madeline and the Director are interesting characters. Walter the elderly gunsmith? Birkoff the IT specialist that froze when put in the field...

Colourful personalities but not necessarily colourful attire

Dex : Consider us your reinforcements.

Blade : What? You amateurs are supposed to be helping me? You? Look at you. You're kids. You're not ready to roll with this. I mean, look at the way you're dressed. What, that's supposed to be tactical?

    [about Hannibal's name tag]

Blade : What is this? What is that? "Fuck you." It's a joke, huh? What the fuck is wrong with y'all? You think this is a joke? You think this is a fucking sit-com?

Hannibal King : Okay, first off, that's just rude. Second, I'm pretty sure we saved your ass back there.

So I jumped back into JA2 1.13 recently and it reminded me on just how much I use Bobby Ray's and how vital it was to the game. Buying ammo, LBE, guns, weapon mods, etc. Now I know the Devs said there will be no Bobby Ray's equivalent but I think this is a huge mistake. Buying gear and running it to the front lines was another strategic layer in the overall battle for ground and something done in real life. Sending a strong merc as a mule to run back and forth just added to the depth of the game. I really hope they reconsider this decision and we don't have to rely on using hand me downs we find off enemy soldiers. They could do it in the same way JA2 did it where better weapons are only able to be purchased after certain timeframes for balance reasons.

Also, I know they mentioned about buying weapons from someone on the map so I'm hoping this is the equivalent to Tony which I think is another must. Selling guns and gear was a secondary stream of income but I have yet to hear them actually mention selling stuff to NPC's so I hope that this is an option as well. Tony also provided quicker ammo resupplies due to location but selling gear for money was his main purpose for most I believe.

One of the most satisfying aspects of the game is struggling to get better items. I would hate to have a shortcut in weapon progression early on or at affordable prices.

On the other hand I enjoyed the lore and logistical challenge of it - controlling an airport, noticing missing items, handling the problem with bribes/charisma/fists/bullets... dealing with AA site, maybe finding a plane and crazy enough pilot (like with the chopper). A lot can be done with the concept of importing rare/exotic/western gear into a conflict zone.

Apart from the interesting content benefits, I think a shop like that could provide a late-game cash sink. In a lot of game there comes a point when you have lots of money and nothing to spend on. I personally didn't feel like hiring more mercs when I had a bunch of money mid to late game. So there's only buying matching outfits and perfecting set ups... It would be different if I had to arm a couple of hundred militia fighters by plane shipments.

Which touches on another issue. Have you ever wondered at the start of a game, how much money you should save and what to spend on, if you could get/find better stuff outside the shops? Because I haven't worried about "gold" since I first played Diablo 2 with my classmate and we thought we should gather 13,000 for a non-magical pole-arm the merchant had... from 1 and 2 gold drops... Then it turned out gold is useless. Game economy is hard to design.
