Solaris_Wave Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 I just saw this video on YouTube. This is the 4 Bore rifle. https://youtu.be/r4kPfUBy19E 2
Hendrix Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Big enough? Not when hunting "wabbits". 😁 Damn that thing could easily break your collarbone or dislocate your shoulder. You need a really good recoil absorption technique to not hurt yourself when shooting that monster! On the + side it only takes 1 shoot, hardly matter if you hit or not! 😂 2
Solaris_Wave Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 The calibre of the 4 bore is apparently around one inch. That makes it bigger than a Bolter round used by the Adeptus Astartes in WH40K. In fact, it probably laughs in the face of such rounds and calls them a Big Girl's Blouse. And yet, 2 bore exists. At what point does it stop being a hand-held gun and become something you need to 'deploy'? "A most splendid shot, Sir!" "Thank you, Belvedere." "Not only did you kill that fine beast…but also that Death Star behind it." 1

But aren't the 2 bore guns (to my limited knowledge) old blackpowder guns? I would guesstimate that a 4 bore with today's type of powder would be much more powerful. It is a good question of what is to be considered handheld and deployable however.
Solaris_Wave Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 I don't have much knowledge on those myself and only did a quick Google. It looks as if all those large bore guns are from the 19th Century. 2 bore seems more of an idea, rather than actuality. However, there is a Forgotten Weapons video of the Double Deuce. I haven't watched it just yet but the gun is huge.
LoboNocturno Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Enough ? Its too much lol, you could not use it in a real fire fight. Unless you wait in a corner for the perfect shot but still not preferable, once it hits though its all over.
Solaris_Wave Posted April 21, 2023 Author Posted April 21, 2023 (edited) With a gun that big, you don't need to wait in a corner for a perfect shot. You just aim in the general direction and take out your chosen target…and the rest of the neighbourhood with it! Edited April 21, 2023 by Solaris_Wave
LoboNocturno Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Its simply not suitable for a fire fight, also most average people would not able to handle it.
Solaris_Wave Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 I agree. Even the 4 bore rifle has tremendous recoil. Did you see the video link, @LoboNocturno? The size of each cartridge is immense.
LoboNocturno Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 (edited) @Solaris_Wave Of course i watched it 😉, yes it was big almost like a 50 caliber (a lil shorter but much thicker). Edited April 22, 2023 by LoboNocturno
Solaris_Wave Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 The 4 bore is totally impractical for a zombie apocalypse but he tries it anyway: https://youtu.be/MsOVyB9mMCE The video shows other calibres first, to give a comparison to the 4 bore.
Solaris_Wave Posted May 4, 2023 Author Posted May 4, 2023 I love his Arnie accent! I wonder why he showed .50 BMG cartridges in the thumbnail? Also, I don't know much about .50GI so I will have to see how it competes with .50AE.
VektorT Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 You guys are asking the wrong questions about this rifle. The proper ones are "will it be in the final game?" and "does the dual wield perk works with it?" 2

Accurate, contrary to popular belief bullets are small, the target is far, and its very easy to miss. Even a big gun still has a tiny bullet going at a target that might be 5% or 1% of your field of view?
Solaris_Wave Posted May 12, 2023 Author Posted May 12, 2023 I was actually being tongue in cheek about the gun because it is for all intents and purposes, a ridiculous firearm. It's big, heavy, single shot, slow to reload, has massive recoil and immense over-penetration. I thought my humour would have been obviously known to be exaggerated.

Clearly, that must be why LoboNocturno also took it semi seriously... 1
Elder III Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 It would be really nifty if we had some comical joke guns in JA3. Perhaps ye olde Punt gun could be added for river boat travel? 1
Solaris_Wave Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 (edited) That reminds me of this photo I saw years ago: Edited May 19, 2023 by Solaris_Wave 1
LoboNocturno Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 @Solaris_Wave Is that last pic for real or joke ? Inna lil boat like that idk. 😄
Solaris_Wave Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 I am certain it is a joke, possibly done for fun by the US Coast Guard themselves. I saw the picture for the first time a very long time ago but I don't know its origin. Just imagine it trying to be a practical weapons platform. The recoil from that M2 would be sending that boat back onto land. 1
Solaris_Wave Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 When the term 'small arms' has a vague definition:
Solaris_Wave Posted May 21, 2023 Author Posted May 21, 2023 We also have the 'Tacticool' gun with too many attachments: 2
