  1. You are dead right. XCOM et al are doing exactly that - hence my reference to chess. In fact this reminds me an old game, Incubation, which on the face value was a turn based strategy/tactical game. But it really was the puzzle game Xcom et al are like spiritual descendants - you had to solve the puzzle. Don't get me wrong, I like these games, I play/played a lot of it and enjoyed it. But once again, its not JA and not what I want from JA3.
  2. You have it backwards. CtH is for a casual console gamers who can't handle keyboard and mouse in the same time. That's why XCOM's are pad optimized and have CTH...
  3. No, it is not included in every other strategy game, lol. It is included in most console-focused, hardly strategic games for kids with the attention span of a goldfish. However, in some games, it makes kind of sense due to, say, advanced technology - Battletech being one - I have no problem there as 'I am inside of a massive machine with advanced computing capabilities' equally, me sitting with a firearm in the bushes - I can't tell my chance to hit. Simples. Neither of the reasons you describe is suitable or needed - if you played JA2, you would know your merc would tell you they can't hit something. Also, you would see when the firearm is outside of the effective range. The beauty of JA2 is in the fact that you know your merc. You know which one can hit from a distance and which one will never do it. You know you need to get your camouflage kit, NV, and sneaky guys to do specific ops. You don't need stupid % to tell you that... and if you do need it - this game is not for you. Move on.
  4. No. CtH is a mistake - unrealistic(not that JA is realistic), unnecessary and most importantly absolutely useless. Similarly, I haven’t heard or see any argument why CtH is good or needed? The ‘I want it so I scream loud’ argument isn’t one. That’s what my 3.5 year old does when she wants something she can’t have. Bottom line - JA and JA2 never had this. For me is enough of a reason.
  5. Xcom(new) et all with the CtH are not tactical, are not tb strategy games etc - these are 'just' (I don't say it lightly) chess - nothing wrong with chess - but I want JA3 not chess online with guns.
  6. Spent countless hours playing it. I think pre JA2 only original UFO took more of my time and Laser Squad before it if anyone still remembers this one!
  7. I think version from this website worked for me some time ago no problem (on windows 7 or 10 though) https://www.old-games.com/download/8809/wages-of-war-the-business
  8. Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time. Ah that was a good one but somewhat flawed. I don’t remember now what I didn’t liked about it - but remember getting frustrated a lot. I think (but could be wrong) I felt like there isn’t enough purpose in it. I think I was fresh after playing (a lot and I mean A LOT) of Sabre Team and Wages wasn’t giving me a good reason to continue - I think (if memory serves) there was lack of any story that would hook me. JA was released same year although being inferior many ways (the top down kinda view vs isometric really annoyed me) it had a good story.
  9. Everything you @Martin and @Lunokhod is valid and makes sense. But it is also wrong. You guys are not talking about JA nor JA2 game. You are talking about a 1.13 and modded game that - in fact - has nothing to do with the original game(s).
  10. just played few minutes using it - THANKS! this is exactly what I needed without turning the game into 1.13 abomination! Love this mod! Thanks again.
  11. Nope. First time hearing about it. Will try it out soon!
  12. Fair enough. I am cautiously optimistic about this project. Not holding my breath after all disappointments over the years but I am optimistic.
  13. Yet all I am seeing in the forum here is ‘why there is no to hit %’ and ‘why it isn’t 1.13’ and then which feels really schizophrenic- ‘we want deeply realistic game’ but with ‘% to hit’ which is realistic my a…
  14. I know. But it felt better on old laptop. I used 1.13 just for the resolution but I still hate it. I understand where r you coming from - but that’s not JA or JA2. 1.13 is a different game. I don’t want or need 1.14. I want JA3. 🙂 as for the part you didn’t understand - in JA first one - when you tried to cross/swim through the body of water there was a chance you’ll get attacked by a huge eel which if you didn’t had knife (equipped) there was big chance your merc would just die. In JA2 you would fight against well I should have used word mutants (Bloodcats and Crepitus). Don’t even talk about magic trees in JA1 😉 This game was never intended to be serious, realistic, deep tactical game. Never. 1.13 made it - but it is a mod.
  15. So I am reading through this forum/community and one thing really struck me. You guys want this game to be JA2 1.14 not really JA3. I hate, hate with the vengeance, JA2 1.13. I play JA2 couple of times a year - hell on some stage I kept an old laptop only for this purpose - and besides Fallout 1 and 2 it is only other game I keep playing since it was released. But I do hate 1.13 - this broke the game. It attempted to turn a funky, funny, yet strategic and dark game into some sort of realistic drivel. No, thank you, JA neither 1 (fec…ing electric/monster magical eel’s anyone???) nor2 ( aliens??? And pretty much everything else!) supposed to be realistic or real. Finally - yeah JA3 looks and feel different- but it supposed to be different. It is not JA2 it is certainly not a crappy edition of crappy 1.13 - it is a different game and for once, first time in 25 years it is not a pile of horse shit from the outset. Is it good? No idea. But one can hope.
  16. Except it wasn’t part of JA2 at all. Not the original one intended, developed and released by its creators. Fact it was added later for snowflakes doesn’t count.
  17. so what you saying is - you hate unrealistic system re: parts - but you hate realistic system of ambush with MG? Are you sure you are not my wife?
