I got faith they'll put some wildlife in there, it is Africa, what's the first you'd think of when visiting Africa? besides the tribes and scenery, the ANIMALS, big cats, elephants, crocodile... flocks of birds, and I don't mean just hearing them, seeing them would be nice. You remember in JA2 the Ravens and Bloodcats.

And in Jagged Alliance 1 we had a strange snake or eel like creature that drowned us down inside the water. 😄

  2. Damn gotta check this out, someone modded Jagged Alliance 2 very well like i never seen before, helmets, vests etc is also appearing, weapon sounds are more realistic and the new soundtrack gave it good vybes overall. Who ever made it, made a amazing job, would love to play Jagged Alliance 2 like this directly right away.

  3. Guess you didnt watched any of the trailer videos, it shows where a head is exploding by a sniper rifle, also where a enemy soldier is getting to pieces from Fauda`s grenade (the destruction and explosion effect was too simply made though imo.) Hope they work seriously on this as well, different blood & gore effects, where Barry shooting with his shotgun and the blood splashing to the ground doesnt look bad but hope they bring different varieties of deaths, few of the death effects should be rare so sometimes we can say wow, damn OMG what was that? Weapon and bullets types should also have different impacts, like when you are shooting with a 9mm the heads should not explode or the possibly should be very minimal, instead when you are shooting with a heavier calibre like magnum, shotgun near distance or 50 calibre should have a pretty high % possibility to blow heads.

Shooting the legs off from enemies would be also a brutal effect, like after a shotgun shot to the legs, they should lose their legs and only crawl on the ground, then if they get saved by their back ups, they should replace them with those wooded pirate legs as we saw in the trailer, but guess am dreaming too much already, maybe not. 😉

I would assume it is Ron "Raider" Higgens (Ravens husband) from JA2 and not a new character. Looks like Arulco put some years on him.

Ohhh it seems so, didnt even think of the Raider from JA2, never really used him in those 20+ years. 😃 Was perhaps for me 1 of the more invisible characters in Jagged Alliance 2, at least imo.

The new Raider portrait looks like it has been inspired by Stan Lee and his Marvel characters. I can see a mix of Reed Richards (Fantastic Four), Dr. Strange and even Stan himself 😄.

Will there be any new, slightly burnt out and unhinged mercs for hire? Anyone who's portrait shows a thousand yard stare, draws smiley faces on their frag grenades and has given his personal custom knife a man's name?

Hahah to me, he gave me directly a relentless biker gang type vibe, his portrait also reminds me to Magic Mike from Vatos Locos from the legendary Blood In Blood Out movie or also to Alejandro Gillick from Sicario, would be more then happy if they could bring a crazy Mexican merc Machete like. 😉

Here on the screen behind Ian Currie. The lettering itself is blurred by the camera setting, but by the number of letters you can tell it's Reaper.

Heheh i knew, it looks like Reaper but could be Raider too, its too tight & blurry bro.

Wanted to add that some projects like BIA and Rage surely had animated portraits but they looked really bad and were overall no real big successors to JA2.

I can not imagine that with todays software and tech it is so hard to implement good looking animated portraits. In the conversation screen or tactical map (hire screen) for example you cant even see the 3D world. So there is no distraction only the 2D images. That the mercs move their head, mouth and body a little bit and that the eyes blink cant be to hard to do. Even JA1 did that!

But I surely would love to see the animated portraits or the expressions on the 3D faces of the models also on the battlefield.

Oh yes, they should express their emotions very well, happy (by victory & story related),sad (when mercs die & story related),angry (by merc confusion and sector lost),tired (when you keep your merc restless),fear (by shocked moments or sudden ambush) etc expressions should surely be there.

I mean with JA3 we talk about the ambition to create a true successor to JA1,2 and one big key element of this series are the animated faces that gave the mercs life. Maybe the 3D models in JA3 have already expressions on their face, I dont know. That would explain the missing animated portraits, because maybe both would be too much work or too distracting. But the mercs and NPCs need something.

Static pictures and static 3D models cant transport the emotions. I know animated portraits are a lot of work but we are in 2023 and JA2 did that over 20 years ago so there is no excuse when you want to create a real successor. That is why all the other games after JA2 failed, because no one could recreate the true nature, atmosphere and charm that made JA2 what it is today. An outstanding masterpiece that is still unmatched to this day. Animated portraits or animated 3D faces are a must have feature.

I am tired to write this because I did that in all the other JA projects that came after JA2 and no one did that and so they failed to create something special that was worthy of the JA name. If you take a huge project like this serious you have to know that this takes a lot of work. A half baked game where a key element is missing will never recreate the same vibe that we all love. The more the mercs feel alive and lifelike the more I care about them and the more I feel like I operate in a believable world where I control a real squad through tough times. Taking the emotions of your mercs with you from the beginning to the end that is what makes JA2 special.

I can seriously leave %100 my signature about this comment.

After careful analysis of the new trailer featuring Ian Currie, it appears that Reaper will appear in the game.

Where did you spotted Reaper ? We didnt saw the character as yet but he could be surely in the legendary section of AIM with Gus, Shadow, Magic, Len, Scully etc....

BTW am really interested to see this Raider guy from AIM Elite.

Hope the selection to edit our character will be wide, lots of different portraits & voices, or if we can even edit our own like editing the face, eyes, nose, mouth, skin colour, body type etc.....

  10. This Raider guy looks like a aggressive rocker, Hells Angels vybes 😎🏍️. Really interested to see this character, hope its not Raider instead of Reaper. I assume in Legendary there is Gus, Scully & Reaper & perhaps 1 or 2 new mercs? What you guys think?

  11. Welcome back Curry !!!

Its really a honour to see you, the lil in game footages looks pretty promising, the tactical map and all, really love it but the characters looking a bit cartoonish to me, would be personally happy if they could made a bit more realistic with battlefield outfits. Hoping and praying you are still working on the animated, lively portraits, its really very important for most of us, it brings extra atmosphere to the game.

Cant wait for the next Combat DevDiary 👊🏽💀

Yes birds, flying insects and bigger animals like bloodcats and crocodiles would be a great addition to the game. But for me the animated portraits and conversations are much more important. That was one big reason why I fell in love with the game. Hopefully we see these features later in the development.

Am also really very excited how the wild life and animals🌴🐍🐅🐊🦛 will be in Jagged Alliance 3 but this ANIMATED LIVELY portraits are even a more important point! and the SKULL💀 when they die!!!🩸😵

I'm just wondering how this will be handled in JA3. In JA1, there were no towns as such, you just captured sectors with Fallow trees, and assigned workers (which you were supposed to protect, but didn't often end up having to). In JA2, the main strategic boons were when you captured settlements (and their mines), with other things of secondary interest to be found in other sectors along the way.

I'm presuming JA3 will do it the JA2 way, but maybe a bit of the old style from JA1 would work alongside this. Do we have any info on this currently?

No info as yet but we know already that the main source of our income will the the blood diamonds 💎 and possibly few other stuff, so am strongly guessing it will be similar to Jagged Alliance 2.

I played JA2 and watched so many JA2 gameplay videos lately and noticed how alive the conversations are because of the fine animated and detailed faces. Still to this day it is unmatched how everything feels alive and that your mercs operate in a believable world.

So I red the first dev diary and saw the screenshot with the conversation and I guess just like the portraits the faces wont be animated. I think this could be a big atmosphere killer. JA2 feels so alive, because your squad talks directly to you with these fine detailed faces.

I think in the end just a stiff picture of a merc with voice acting cant transport the emotions enough. You must see the pain in their eyes when they get hurt or when they are happy or angry. That is so well done in JA2 and that is the reason why it is so special, because no other game does that!

So please devs think about the animated faces. Its so important for the atmosphere. The eyes and mouths need to move in some way so that everything feels alive. Stiff pictures cant transport the emotions.

%100 agree, in game the portraits MUST be LIVELY animated !!!!! And once they die the SKULL 💀 must come in, its a tradition since Jagged Alliance 1. PLEASE bring it, otherwise it will be a minus for sure.

    Hello human,

Sorry to be off topic and honestly its not my business, but

I wouldn't recommend 2 buy a laptop at all, unless you play outdoors and in need of a mobile station. If u wanna enjoy decent gaming experience, this way or another u will end up with a bigger screen, an external mouse and keyboard, a joystick or another controller of your choice. As every laptop includes usually poor keyboard, mouse and a small screen, the only thing that the manufacturer wants from us is to pay twice. And I don't see a reason to pay twice for a screen, mouse and keyboard. A laptop with bigger screen becomes hefty and not as mobile as we like it to be. Moreover what happens when some1 wants to switch a monitor ? In a PC its just switching the monitor (just check the video output is still suitable) while for a laptop the whole box goes to garbage, not cool man, not cool.

Moreover, graphic cards and CPU's in laptops are weaker to a larger extent than the options we have for a PC. The number of discs and memory cards has its physical limits (not much slots available in laptop) and usually laptop parts are more expensive and give you less freedom of choice to combine.

The only usual drawback in building a PC is it comes without wi-fi and without blue-tooth by default, unless you choose extension cards or very specific motherboards. Mind the gap here, as even when a PC has a blue tooth connectivity some blue tooth headsets will not work with it.

A strong laptop is not cheap and usually laptops nowadays are not much stronger than a decent mobile phones. So I assume u already have a phone as a mobile device, why to buy another one... Just because some game devs do not know to develop a game for a phone ? so we should pay money for multiple devices, well that's a bad joke if u ask me.

And do not expect that a windows laptop would last for 10 years. I believe after 5 years most of the windows laptop users find themselves at the moment they want to change it for something else.

Just another point of view, nothing more and sorry for being rude and away from the subject.

Everyone has surely different opinions which i tolerate but seriously it made me laugh, cant compare a good laptop with a smart phone, come on. Am nearly not using my smart phone at all when am home, a laptop has much more to offer then a smart phone. Can use even social media on my laptop more, phone is ok when you are outdoors imo but looking for hours to smaller screen can also really disturb the eyes, watching %99 times YouTube on my laptop or via my PS5 on big TV screen.

A good modern windows laptop could easily work smoothly for 5 years or more, it also depends how you use and take care of it. But any machine will age by time thats also a reality.

You may right a PC could have advantages over a laptop but now days people rarely use desktops, unless you are a real PC geek and are stable for years in 1 house/place, then it could make sense.

@LoboNocturno looks like a nice laptop!

I assume you have it hooked up to your tv? Are you going or do you to use a wireless keyboard and mouse? If that is the case I would appreciate if you could tell us how that works out for you!

Have you tried any more demanding games, how do they run and how much nose to the laptop produce?

I myself connected my tv to my laptop via Samsung Easy Connect app (or some such it was called) and while the connection worked without a problem the mouse and keyboard lag was way to much for me to handle, I had the wireless mouse and keyboard connected to the tv instead of the laptop. The lag was severely reduced when I connected the mouse and keyboard to the laptop instead and connected the tv via a HDMI cable. I would like to state that both the mouse and keybord are fairly old and cheap. Will post again when I get a bit of time to try out the samsung app with the m&k connected to the laptop.

On a side note, glad to se you got your priorities straight when it comes to the games installed (shortcuts to JA). 😄👍

Yeap the laptop is not bad at all, to your first question nope didnt tried it and guess cant even try it since i have a older plasma TV from 2010 or so, still working smoothly and good for console gaming even its way too outdated against modern TVs. If i buy a newer smart TV, am aiming to buy possibly the SONY KD-55XH9005 LED TV, you can get it for a reasonable price, under 800 euros. Would use it more for sport streaming though then gaming.

To your 2. question, a friend of mine asked me the same question few days ago lol, no i didnt tried any modern AAA game as yet how the laptop really performs on it, as i am not even planning to do heavy gaming on my laptop, but could do a test sometime. For most gaming cases and AAAs i am surely just going to use my PS5. Am still hoping that JA3 will be coming also for console shortly after its released for PC, will play it firstly in PC anyway but when it comes out for PS5, will platinum it for sure.

Ohhh i see, you did some experimenting already with TV & laptop, could be very true with lagging, could also depend what type of mouse or keyboard you use. Am also not using the fanciest mouse, using at the moment the Logitech Signature M650 that i bought for 45 euros, its far more comfortable then the famous Razor Death Adder imo.

Oh yes, Jagged Alliance to be on the desktop is a must eeeh 😉 Urban Strife & Jagged Alliance 3 to follow maybe later on of this year.

Anyone excited for the multiplayer mode?

I am curious about this in turn based ganeplay.

could there be a head to head mode too? Or maybe in the future?

I am for both, co op mode and 1 VS 1 could be also very epic.

  18. Am playing Jagged Alliance 1 again since i bought my new laptop, Jagged Alliance 1 a game way from 1994, its still fun to play imo, Jagged Alliance 1 its not Jagged Alliance 2 but for its time still a very fun game imo, though lots of lacking details, no leg or head shooting, cant go prone, and so many other stuff missing and its somehow too pixelated and robotic but still fun, if you really love Jagged Alliance, i highly recommend it, its worth to play it at least once who never played it. Must admit after playing it more then 2 hours it can get strange to eyes cause its too pixelated, still i play Jagged Alliance 3, will be playing also JA1 Deadly Games and then Jagged Alliance 2 once again. Probably will play Urban Strife as well if it comes before Jagged Alliance 3.

This is my starting team, never skipping Ivan & Fidel and in part 1 Hector is also 1 of my favourites.

  19. Ooohhh forgot to write it here, earlier on like 4 weeks ago i bought finally a Asus ROG Zephyrus, Hongwebing`s advice helped me alot to choice this laptop, cause in my first thoughts was to buy the Dell XPS 15 9520. So far so good, cant complain at all for around 1700 $ a good laptop imo, am happy with it and cant wait to play Jagged Alliance 3 on it soon, Jagged Alliance 3 was also 1 of the reasons for me to buy this ROG G14 2022.

As an alternative, how about going back in time to the ‘50s, ‘60s or early ‘70s? Say, the Middle East during that time or Africa again? This would be when post-WWII gear would be common but being superseded by battle rifles like the FN FAL, H&K G3, M14 and SKS. Assault rifles were not as common at this point so 5.56mm isn’t widespread. SMGs and shotguns are very much in favour and optics are basic and heavy. Rail Interface Systems aren’t a thing except for bespoke clamped-on sights. Anything else gets taped to the gun. It would all be a real back-to-basics setting but still advanced on significantly from WWII.

If that doesn’t appeal, how about setting it in the 1980s with wars against drug cartels? Set it in Central or South America?

50s, 60s come on that would totally spoil Jagged Alliance`s culture, like a Commandos replica. I most definitely want to see Jagged Alliance 4 at least around 2010 or even further with the SCAR with newer MERCS and some of our old ones as well.

Fighting a cartel would be epic indeed, but not in 80s against Pablo & Cali Cartel like guys lol, instead modern cartels the ones like in Mexico now with heavy calibred guns, who has well trained elite forces and even armored vehicles etc.....

Or somewhere different this time like in Asia in a country like Myanmar against a ruthless war lord.

It is interesting to see other people showing concern about JA3 taking too much influence from XCOM. I know I have repeated that sentiment over and over in these forums (and I am assuming that other people's views are regarding the XCOM reboot and not the X-COM original (which is a pain that they named them so similarly)).

While it has been expressed how people are worried that JA3 will feel like a reskin of XCOM both in these forums and on Steam, it could be worthwhile saying precisely what things you don't want JA3 to be, and what XCOM-like mechanics you don't want to see.

We have been told that the maps will be larger than what has been shown so far in previews, but map size was one of my own concerns. I'll also add that I don't want to see the removal of the action points system in favour of two general actions.

I vehemently do not want to see the inventory and equipment system of the XCOM reboot, where you can only carry one secondary item or another unrelated item (medkit or grenade or a pistol…and so on). Whoever came up with that idea should have been severely thrown around the room. I know it was done for ease of play and for simplification, especially as it was also for consoles; and gamepads aren't pixel precise like a mouse is. Regardless of that reason, it proved immediately frustrating and unrealistic for me. It just made me think, 'Why am I playing this when I have played turn-based squad games that are so much better?' I don't care if games magazines called the XCOM reboot a 'breath of fresh air' compared to the old games, as if we all unanimously supported the idea. I like a game that allows me to really plan and tool up for the battle. I don't have the short attention span that 'apparently' plagues every single gamer of the last 15-20 years (and I'm sure it isn't the case, despite what games publishers would really like you to think).

So, I have given my specific concerns for JA3, and I apologise for sounding like a broken record by repeating the same things. What are other people's specific concerns about JA3 potentially not being a Jagged Alliance game and instead being an XCOM clone? Also, given that we haven't seen too much gameplay footage and the game is still firmly in development, are those above concerns genuine or unfounded?

Totally unfounded, unnecessary fear imo, even if it will be lil like XCOM it would not be the end of the world, i really liked XCOM 2 but Jagged Alliance 3 seems much better already, but i dont want to get over excited either. 😉

  22. Thats also my exact question whats the thoughts of Haemimont Games ?

Nothing should take you guys back from making a sequel ? Jagged Alliance is very great trust me (hope lots of newcomers will love the game) and if the outcome will be at least like a XCom 2 it would be good enough for a sequel imo, thats why am always saying Jagged Alliance 3 must come out also for Console, especially PlayStation and maybe XBox as well for more sales and to get more players. I left with PC gaming since nearly 2 decades but just for Jagged Alliance 3 sake i bought myself a 2000 $ laptop already. 😉

So we cant do more than hoping & praying that Jagged Alliance 3 will be a major success, i mean the alpha footages seems not bad at all already, with lil more adjustments i can be seriously something great without a joke.

Hope the stable portraits will be changed to lively portraits and once a merc dies the skull should be coming thats a lil but important point imo since JA1.

Maybe not directly Jagged Alliance 4 but after Jagged Alliance 3 gets released we should not wait for more than 2 or 3 years for a sequel like Jagged Alliance Deadly Games or Jagged Alliance 2 Unfinished Business. Maybe it would e something very cool if you can finish Jagged Alliance 3 with a mystery in the end that would make us fans hungrier lol. Then after few years a side part like Jagged Alliance 3.5 idk. But we surely dont want to wait another 20 years for part 4 thats obvious, so hope after been JA3 gets successful we should not wait more than 5 years for Jagged Alliance 4.
