  1. I know its still too early to ask for but my question is if the project Jagged Alliance 3 will go very well (on PC & Console later on) or even further than expected will be there a additional part like JA Unfinished Business or even the project Jagged Alliance 4 after a couple of years ? (Please dont wait us again for 20 plus years ...!!!) But seriously are they thoughts already about something like that ? for a Jagged Alliance 3 sequel ?

In my opinion once Jagged Alliance 3 goes greater then i expected i would surely want to play a part 4 as a hardcore Jagged Alliance fan, next time with some more improvements and it could take maybe around 2010s or even 2020s, most mercs got older (with some lower stats in some areas but higher experience level) or even retired ones. This time maybe somewhere in a fictional Asian, European or in a South American country. Would be very cool indeed.

Will be playing Jagged Alliance 3 inch to inch anyway for multiple times still i archive all.

  2. Finally great to read the first dev diary that we waited ever since.

I do agree with most whats writing in here like about the shooting ballistics, game mechanics etc... Hope we will get a good near to realistic combat feeling that will have each time a different exciting outcome.

My other thoughts are mainly about cosmetics, like the portraits in game are static as we got used in the previous main games (even in JA1 a game way 30 years ago) were lively, which was giving us a very nice emotion feeling, whenever they were shot, wounded etc... or by dead the skull would show up, hopefully this will be also in JA3.

Also some of the characters look has nothing to do with battlefield (not saying every merc should have directly a military look) but at least a lil more suitable look, also to the environment (Grand Chien a African country with mainly hot and humid tropical climate). From all characters so far i like the outfit of Fauda most, Fidel as well (may without his jacket it would be a lil better). So am hoping at least with some customization we can give them a better battlefield look, the different variety of helmets, vests and backpacks should show (if not at all, please try to give us alternative looks as well for each characters, i dont mind even as DLC).

Others then the recruitable 40 mercs from AIM or MERC there should be also several other playable characters that we will meet in Gran Chien as RPCs.

Less but not least, i know this will hopefully in the combat topic next, if we will also have some named enemies like mid bosses, it would give to the game even a greater flavor and some wild animals as well its a must imo.

    Gracias still next time....

It is nice to know that long distance engagements will feature in JA3. Larger battlefields open up the choice on tactics and how to engage the enemy. It will also mean that battle rifles, assault rifles, sniper rifles and machine guns will play a role that will separate them from shorter range weapons.

It also makes me wonder if there will be tense engagements where there might be an enemy sniper that is in a position to overlook the entire battlefield! Hopefully, there could be an individual enemy merc or a named elite soldier that could be a serious threat, as their reputation as a sniper is well known (and they might have a bounty on them if captured or killed).

I can picture a situation where your mercs have to make full use of cover, staying low when possible, sprinting from cover to cover to lower the chances of being shot (if sprinting gives a to-hit penalty). You might need a counter-sniper or to try suppressing their position with a machine gun or mortar as your other mercs close in, using smoke grenades until they can assault the sniper's location with an assault rifle, SMG, shotgun or handgun.

Not only that but the sniper might have soldiers defending him or her, plus mines and claymores covering the approaches.

Sounds very good to me, hopefully there will be some named mid boss battles in some sectors.

  4. I mentioned about this in some other topics before, of course if the gear such different kind of vests, helmets, masks, backpacks could appear it would be way more realistic without a question, we should have a lil option to customise our mercs in appearances.

Still hoping they will bring it so at least the helmets, vests and backpacks can appear you know they would never ever look like the same.

I recently checked out another review of Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge. This time it was IGN's review. They also talked about the difficulty of the game, namely the superior enemy numbers who can outshoot you and even throw their grenades farther than you can shoot! I know GODSPEED and Hendrix said the grenades were bad but it sounds like you are facing a load of professional baseball and cricket players with their pitching skills!

Not only that, but they can seemingly sprint back and forth at Olympic speeds, never tiring out (which I suspected, not having played the game myself), while your own mercs get tired quickly and apparently get out of breath firing their guns, causing them to collapse from exhaustion.

In fact, forget the professional baseball and cricket players, it seems like your enemies are either Terminators or Replicants.

Hahah could be true, thats why i play only Jagged Alliance as turn based game and played XCom 1 & 2 as well of boredom which is pretty much the most popular turn based game of modern gaming but didnt like it that much, i like to a turn based game with realistic weapons and fight against human enemies. The aliens in XCom are looking way too childish imo, if there were cooler type of aliens like the Predator or so i may like it more. Also checked some reviews and gameplay of Silent Storm as some mentioned it was a good game but i dont know i also didnt liked it, you are in WW2 (like in Commandos, never liked Commandos either). Jagged Alliance is by far the best turn based game period imo.

  6. I was really thinking hard about Dell XPS 15 2022 but with good specs its almost around 3000 $, guess i will be going finally for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2022, its around 1900 $ and almost the same specs and the ROG G14 is safer for some gaming as it does not heat up much like the Dell XPS. Also more robust design, the Dell XPS looks glamorous but looks too fragile somehow (lightly builded), the ROG 2022 has more plug ins which is also a plus.

    • Thanks 1
  7. Am sure there will be some more sectors than just we are seeing in the Grand Chien map, there will be several more sectors in the basement level and possibly there will be basement level 1 and 2 as well just like we had in Jagged Alliance 2. When there will be mines there will be surely also other secret sectors. Maybe a hiding underground prison or research center?

That was a good video. He mentioned the clothing and equipment not showing up on the 3D model, which has been talked about in other forum threads. The developers might change that but that would mean for a lot of model combinations.

One thing I am not keen on is the blood cloud whenever anybody gets hit. It is way too exaggerated and cartoony. I think that should be toned down a lot. The blood that lands on the ground is okay though. Other than that, the game looks excellent with nice effects, smoke, dust and what appears to be dynamic environmental damage. It looks like the gameplay isn't too zoomed in either (an initial concern I had) as longer ranged gameplay is important if you really want to differentiate battle rifles, assault rifles and bolt-action rifles to sub-machine guns.

Yes indeed, am still hoping that they will make changes on the appearances and that we will be able to wear different kind of helmets, vests, backpacks etc that will also appear on our characters. They should also think & look again about some mercs outfits, like some are either nothing to do with battlefield look or are wearing strange clothes that doesn't suit into the hot tropical climate, yes i said it 100 times already but again having Ivan with a WW2 Soviet uniform with his ushanka doesnt fit in at all. You could keep his pic with his Ushanka just on his profile pic (and yes the profile pics in game should be lively so we can see their emotions on their face with some mimics and when they die there should come a skull pic just like in the original JA2.)

God damn we are in hot tropical Africa so please try to suit their looks more to the environment and weather, isn't rocket science.

I have been checking out the screenshots as best as I can, as they aren't too clear in terms of resolution. It is all looking very nice so far, however.

There was talk in The Portraits thread about whether your mercs will wear different outfits or camo. It is hard to say, even from these screenshots but I am guessing that looking at Ivan with his blue shirt and Smiley, who looks like he just came from a country club before tooling up, their outfits might remain the same throughout the game, purely as a means of identification and individuality. Then again, there may be change or alternatively, character model presets to choose from. Ivan's icon shows him wearing a ushanka, whereas his 3D model shows his wearing a blue beret.

The 1 with the blue beret is Igor Dolvich.

  10. The entrance also reminds me a little to Pablo`s Hacienda Napoles since there were hippos as well. Hope later on we will also have Jagged Alliance 4 in Latin America, against a vicious cartel now that would be so epic.

Hoping for nice Sub Saharan vybes with nice nature atmosphere, hope the background sounds, wind, insect and animal sounds etc all will be in there.

  11. Smiley outfit doesnt look bad either, white hat, white tshirt jeans with white shoes. Lets see what kind of merc he will be ? Guess a joker type of guy lol.

Am i the only 1 here who is zooming to all screenshots and analyzing the environments ? and so curious about the mercs outfits ? 😃

Would like to see some photos and analyses from you guys too.

I am guessing that the lower picture is an enemy soldier, if only because the developers might stick to JA2's depiction of enemies and their experience level (yellow for lowest, red for standard and black for veterans).

Could be yes, do you think it will be like that ? In my opinion it would look somehow monoton. Enemies should have some random or green military clothing as well with camo etc...

Btw i like Igor`s outfit, he looks suitable to the African environment much more then Ivan, though maybe helmet instead of beret ?

  13. The ruined place in fence looks really like back in West Africa (made it as my wallpaper), it reminds me to my Liberia & Sierra Leone times, simply wonderful. There is a place called Hotel Africa back in Liberia, once it was 1 of the most fancy 5* star hotels in whole West Africa but right now only the the ruins exist. Just google it, its very interesting, highly recommended. Also there where rumors that Gaddafi wanted to buy there and renew the whole place to make it lively back in the glory times but shortly after the civil war started and he was captured and killed. All of this real stuff happened its just like Jagged Alliance. Guess almost everybody knows the story with Charles Taylor and all. 😃

Btw we were also talking in few other topics if there would be some wild animals ? Which i think likely will, if you check the entrance and fence well there is hippo heads, which may a sign around the swamp area or lagoons can be hippos ? (I mentioned before it other topic already hippos would suit totally as they are also the most dangerous animals to humans in real life back in Africa.) Crocs could be very possibly there as well. 😉

  14. As we know already we will be having more than 100 sectors, guess it was mentioned exactly how much but I forgot with different environments such as desert, jungle, savannah, swamp and some urban areas.

Am assuming we will be having at least 9 to 10 (don't mind for more) towns as well like in Jagged Alliance 2.

Really hoping there will be some interesting towns, we saw already various screenshot and video footages from the trailer & gameplay video it looks more like a turned up country with lots of ruins but am sure there will be also more civilised lively areas like San Mona in JA2, Africans love enjoyment so am really curious how they will make all the side fun stuff.

Or a very fancy & luxury city like Balime in JA2 will also suit in there perfectly.

What you guys think and how curious are you about the sectors and the towns will be ?

I hope they add back into the game the personalities of the Mercs where some are more jealous of others and act out during gameplay.   I really hope they keep to the original series.  Thanks Wigen and Solar_wave for response

Yes the friendly & unfriendly trait between some mercs will be there, it was mentioned already in Gamescom.

One of the things that drew me to the original Jagged Alliance games was not just the fact that I love turn-based squad games, but the modern day setting. I also liked the freedom of choice in how you preferred to play the campaign. It wasn't just 'do this mission', 'now do the next mission'. You still had objectives but it was up to you how you approached them.

I have been playing video games for 40 years. In the last 10-15 years I have still played some very enjoyable games. However, I have also noticed that my interest and excitement for games isn't what it was. I don't think it is because I am older and that my tastes have changed (I am nearly 47 at the time of writing this). While it can be partially attributed to the fact that I have seen most games before and today's games are the same, just with newer graphics, I think it is that so many games publishers today just don't have a clue anymore on how to make a game that isn't either bloated (you can advertise hours and hours of gameplay but it is often just grinding and constant travelling around an open world), a game that practically plays itself with on-rails gameplay, has no originality (lots of remasters and yearly sequels) or is yet another game loaded with micro-transactions, loot boxes, season passes, live services, daily goals and so on. I miss the days where you bought a game and got the whole package. Then, if there was something really worthwhile, a game would get an expansion that you could buy if you wanted to (rather than feel compelled to buy because the base game feels like it is missing content). Lots of games these days still have excellent DLC but often the DLC is planned to be released alongside the base game to make a little extra money, or is deliberately omitted from the base game to gain extra profit.

I don't enjoy big budget AAA games anywhere near as much as I do the 'lesser' profile games (and years ago you just had 'games' with some having a bigger profile than others. Nothing was classed as 'AAA'). I personally find that with AAA games and many titles that are released today, you are playing the games that the publishers want you to play, as opposed to the games you want to play.

I feel that JA3 will be one of the worthwhile games that will try to capture that 'old school' mentality. I hope that it won't be too influenced by modern games that have to cater for a 'modern audience'. I don't even think it should be conditioned for release on consoles, and I say this as someone who also plays on XBox. I think consoles have had both a positive and negative influence on gaming, because playing on a console is different to playing on a PC. The control interface is different due to lack of keyboard and mouse, the user interface has to be less complex because you are sitting farther away, looking at a TV. Having a game released on both computer and console platforms means the game has to be more accessible and simplified. That can hurt an in-depth game, especially one that might have smaller graphics and more fiddly gameplay (which, with a mouse and keyboard is not immediately a bad thing).

I firmly hope that JA3 will be for those that enjoyed the earlier Jagged Alliance games and doesn't try to reach out to too many new people by adjusting to a modern gameplay mindset. I don't mean that games should never have a refined interface that has been learned through experience in games design, I just don't want things dumbed down.

Otherwise, it is like when a movie sequel comes out many years since the previous film: its profile is known to the original fans who fell in love with something for what it was, while newer audiences are into modern things and aren't really aware of it. The new film gets changed in some way, whether it is the lore or the characters/creatures, to appeal to a new audience. The result is that it annoys the original fans because they didn't want the changes, its appeal is lost on new audiences because they didn't have any emotional investment in the first place, the movie bombs and the creators wonder why, plus think that the original fans are ungrateful and that that franchise's time has passed.

I understand what you trying to say, in some parts i agree with you totally like we love JA2 cause of it freedom and we could play it as we wanted, could even go straight from Omerta to Meduna to the main base to kill Deidranna which was surely like Mission Impossible.

It was all great and all as we still love JA1 and especially JA2 but thats all nostalgia, way 25 to 30 years ago!

Yes most of us (hardcore Jagged Alliance fans) want something similar of it, all of us know it cant be the exact same game again, it should be a great mixture of old school and modern gaming imo. Am also 36 years old and playing video games since am 4 so the times changed massively. Mainly (lets say almost totally) am a console player, i mean am not playing PC games since more than 15 years now, it was great back in the days when we didnt even had laptops, playing on our desktops but times changed totally, console gaming took totally over. Its also way better for eyes to play on console, big screen and been away at least 3 m. I cant imagine now days playing a game for so many hours on a laptop just been 40 or 50 cm away, no way. I agree the gameplay could be affected a lil if it comes for both but as example i really loved to play Jagged Alliance Rage or XCom on console, would never do it on PC. Am currently playing JA1 on PC and cant play it more then 2 hours a day. So it is a must for Jagged Alliance 3 to come also on console, especially on PS5, it will increase the amount of players and it will be great for business.

  17. Also loving her outfit, she has 1 of the best outfits so far i seen from all characters, i mean a realistic combat look as some of the characters looks way odd imo, as example like Hitman with his pink shirt or Ivan with his WW2 outfit (could give him most definitely a more modern look) with Ushanka in Africa idk. All characters should have outfits more suitable to the hot & humid tropical African weather conditions you know, anything else looks seriously very odd. So Fauda`s outfit is even the best so far imo, Fidel own also looks good, maybe his beret could be green instead of red, i mean going to the battlefield with red beret is like been a open target to the enemies lol. Grizzly will be having a black beret, hope his outfit will be also nice and realistic (maybe his suit will be black as well? Kind of black ops vybes.) or really cant wait to see Shadow`s outfit, he will surely blend in perfectly to the African environment with his green camo military outfit.

  18. I was just analysing about Fauda a little, i think i like her already, she is a Arab woman (fauda means chaos in Arabic), there is even a Netflix Serie called Fauda. Guess she will be also from Palestine or Syria (got a good feeling she will come from a war zone country so Palestine or Syria as her nationality will suit perfectly.)

She uses already a Arabic word in 1 of her speeches (when she is throwing the grenade) "Good! Send the bastards back to Shaitan!" Shaitan, Sheytan means Devil. Hope she will be using more Arabic words which will make it more exotic.

I dont know her stats or her skills as yet but i like her already and guess will be adding her to my team.

Reading that bio makes Reaper sound like a cross between Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell and Bennett from the movie, Commando!

Reaper could be also a ideal villain imo, i would not mind if some of previous JA2 mercs will be working for the enemy ally like Mike in JA2. Gus, Magic or Reaper would suit in imo.
