Came here to do kind of the same thing and say that there are a lot of people out there that wanted an updated JA without changing the feel of the thing and the gameplay.  Looks like they have it spot on.

Wish-listed it on steam and can't wait.  Hopefully this is part of a start back for the game industry that has been seemingly obsessed with everything except making a good game for the last 10 years.  So much money and effort wasted on style over substance.

This is going to be a huge success as long as they get the difficulty levels right, keep the UI intuitive, and the writing is at the same level as the originals.

Don't write this game for the few hundred elitist gamers out there, write it for the millions, who will buy DLC for it for the next 10 years if you get it right.

DLC would not be bad at all, even very good for marketing and business, its also a must to bring it to console once it becomes a successful game, guess i mentioned it here 100 times already but not shy to mention it 101th time. 😉

I can imagine DLC`s already such extra mercs, additional outfits, a new weapon pack, extra missions etc....

One aspect of the game that I have only touched briefly upon is knives and melee weapons. I am not very knowledgeable on the subject of such things, at the time of writing this, as I have never had a desire to own, or even need, a combat knife or other similar blade. I did however, want to mention it as a suggestion and that is, hopefully that there will be melee weapons in the game. I would like to see more than one type of knife in the game, with different damage, weight and action point cost. The mercs of Jagged Alliance come from different countries and there are various knives unique to certain nations and special forces. Also, I should imagine that machetes would be a popular and common sight in Africa, being in use by the various armies and civilians on the continent.

The same can be applied to grenades. There are several varieties of anti-personnel fragmentation grenades, dependent on various nations (or at least, NATO models and Soviet Union models). This will also apply to other types of grenade, such as incendiary, smoke and flashbang. While some of the effects won't really differ, some lethal grenades are certainly more powerful than others.

Some rifles are capable of mounting grenade launchers (again, there are various models) or using muzzle-loaded rifle grenades.

I wrote about this already in other topic. Machetes indeed must be there, also few different kind of knifes like karambit, jungle survival knife or something like a Rambo knife the heartstopper. 😉

Of course there will be several type of grenades, normal grenade, smoke grenade and the flashbang but its a must to have also a very lethal gas grenade like the famous mustard gas grenade in JA2 which saved of us from lots of tough battles.

Nothing like a grenade launcher attachment on our assault rifles, many AFs have it including AK and M-16 models.

Also the Russian RPG must be surely in there ! (Especially around end of the game, possibly against tanks or vehicles.)

@Solaris_Wave BTW it seems like you are a weapon nerd or really a weapon expert since you have so much knowledge about guns and even detailed bullets, such corrosive ammo. 😄

Dell XPS 15 is great for productivity purposes, and it might be able to deal with light gaming, though as you can see, the cooling system is limited, with minimal ventilation. It should run JA3 if you get a model with a dedicated GPU (the maximum you can get with it is a seriously underclocked RTX 3050ti at 40W TDP, though that should just about suffice for JA3), but it might get pretty hot on longer gaming sessions. Admittedly, that would be a problem with all "productivity" laptops (and with many slim gaming laptops).

Yes, the Zephyrus models don't have a camera, sorry, forgot about that.

The TUF Dash F15 models, on the other hand, do have cameras, at least in the 2022 models (the 2021 did not have, if I recall correctly). Still, for most purposes except for gaming, Dell XPS 15 is indeed better (again, depends on the specific models being compared), but more expensive.

Really appreciating the info you are giving, it's so helpful to me.

    See this :

    https://nanoreview.net/en/laptop-compare/dell-xps-15-9520-2022-vs-asus-tuf-dash-f15-2022

Dell XPS 15 9520 VS Asus TUF Dash F15 (both 2022)

I don't see much difference between the 2 to be honest in the comparison, yes the TUF Dash may the better option for heavier gaming and better battery life as well but other than that the Dell seems finer to me. Guess i will be going for the Dell XPS 9520, would you recommend the 13" or 15" ? Guess the 15" is a bit more durable right ?

Try Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, if you're looking for something powerful yet portable, that's probably the best option. There are several options under 1500 USD on Amazon, Bestbuy etc.

If you want something slightly cheaper with a larger screen, try Asus TUF Dash 15.

Of course, there are plenty of specific models, depending on your location. But generally, you want a Ryzen 7 5xxx or 6xxx or better, or an Intel i7 11th or 12th gen or better (although i9 is an overkill, to be honest), i5 12th gen is also good. Also, get at least 16GB RAM. As far as storage space - up to you, but I wouldn't go for less than 512GB (and would prefer 1TB). As for the GPU, if it's really just light gaming, then even Geforce 3050 or 3050ti should suffice, though I'd invest in a 3060. For the AMD counterparts, probably at least RX 6600S, and preferably RX 6700S.

Dell XPS is not a gaming laptop (it is a very good "business" or "productivity" laptop, like a MacBook), so it might not deal too well with the heat generated by a dedicated GPU. In that regard, gaming laptops are better designed for that, though even they have problems.

I was really thinking about the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, nice design (compact and quite light), great battery life as i saw from some reviews but at the end its much more a gaming laptop isnt it ? And it doesnt have a camera which is a minus for me.

Yes Asus TUF Dash F15 seems to me even nicer overall then the ROG Zephyrus G15 from the model but to mount a extra webcam on it, i dont know.

    The comparison between Dell XPS 15 9500 VS Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 seems also pretty similar to me ;

Guess the Dell XPS will also more than enough to open and play Jagged Alliance 3 or not ?

Like i said i will do minimum gaming on it anyway (just Jagged Alliance 3 and may a few more lighter games), will use it mainly for multimedia, editing pics and videos, may some YouTube content and storing pics and videos on it. So at least 1 TB SSD its surely a must indeed.

Still will be checking for more laptops but right now the Dell XPS 15 is the closest buy me candidate. 😁 Just the battery life really concerning me, to have for such a price a weak battery is surely dissapointing and the camera is not so good either which is another downside imo.

In Germany the game was localized to German with German voices. While Grunty is ok, I don't think anyone got great sympathies for him. I am not sure if I ever took Thor in my team (his Berlin accent is hilarious though from listening to his game files).

There also had been a Russian localization with russian voices and a polish version with polish voices. I doubt that the national characters changed much. Maybe Ivan a bit, but probably not a lot (also consider the other tactics games being successful or even rightout developed in Russia). Also doubt that Steroid is responsible for the game being popular in Poland. 😉

Oh yes Thor Kaufmann was also German yeap. 😃

Could be true since Steroid wasn't so popular and lacked in swang imo but if I was Polish I think I would most definitely take him just to heard the word "kurwa" itself. 😄

That's why am saying Ivan & Fidel are whole different level with great personalities and charisma.

BTW am not a fan at all of localization even if its made well, always prefer to hear their orginal voices, also in movies. All of the mercs have to communicate somehow in 1 major language which is English but throwing in between some slang or their native languages will be like the seasoning of the soup. 😉

Just like in orginal JA1 I didn't really complained a bit that Ivan spoke %90 Russian even if I didn't even understood what he was saying but it was a very cool feeling indeed, you could deeply feel his attitude already.

    @LoboNocturno
Yeah, same here. I mean I am also taking lots of other cheap mercs. Hector was a cool Merc in JA1 / DG (and I think my friends second favorite after Lynx) and I also liked Ice, but I wouldn't consider them my favorites. Also other mercs Like Grunty, Barry, Biff, Hurl, and so on...I mean they were all cheap and decent, and I'd take them, but I wouldn't consider them special or my favorites.

I don't think that Mercs need like a somehow "even" spread of different origins and I also don't think it would matter a lot.
Some spread in general is cool ofc, but I'd rather see people from additional backgrounds, rather than an "even" spread to get the distribution equivalent to population or to add a bunch of Brazilian Mercs to hope for Brazilian Players.

Ofc coming with some stereotypical backgrounds which are ofc always a balancing act. Like I would like to see a native american, and it would be cool if he had some of that background in his comments, or like a very grim finnish sniper. Maybe some tech geek from india with a strong indian accent. Or maybe an ex-mossad agent.

But obviously these can all easily start some controversies. Someone will always be unhappy about how their culture is represented.
Being a bit over the top however is what it makes interesting and fun.

It would still caught much more fan base if they would do it that way trust me. We gave the best example with Ivan as mainly cause of him Jagged Alliance has a good amount of fan base in Russia. Could be the same with Grunty in Germany, Grunty also throws now and then some German words. Its surely not everything like you said as the background and their stories is also important to some of us but imagine it would be still very cool to have a few mercs of every region like Street Fighter spread it pretty well imo.

Yes i could imagine a Ex Mossad agent in Jagged Alliance with some hebrew accent, though Israelis are hated most parts of the world so it could bring also lots of controversial opinions, especially after whats happening in the recent times and the death of Al Jazeera journalist.

A Indian tech geek would also suit especially to Biff`s M.E.R.C. team and would be pretty funny imo.

We had a Brazilian like (i know in the game his as Arulcan) RPC merc already in JA2 with Miguel`s right hand Carlos Da Souza.

But they could bring a unique Brazilian merc in AIM, who speaks with Portuguese accent and throws some Portuguese words in, heat resistance and jungle, night ops could be his traits as example.

A Mexican merc would also suit perfectly, a ex sicario as example, it would boost the Mexican community a lot in Mexico & USA.

A Turkish merc would also be cool, who throws in some Turkish words, lots of gamers there as well so it would make a good boost to have more Jagged Alliance fans and players.

Would love to see some more G type of mercs etc... There could be created lots of cool characters may it will not be in JA3 but hopefully further on in JA4 (in next 4 or 5 years).

Just hoping we will still get few more cool exotic mercs, as i mentioned before in other topics 2 or 3 playable RPC African (Gran Chien) mercs is a MUST in Gran Chien just like Miguel, Carlos, Dimitri & Ira in JA2.

And last but not least to create our own merc with details.

My list is very different. I dont really have a clear "top 3", as it also very much depends on the perspective.

For example, some of the guys I liked to play the most in JA2 were Razor and Haywire. They are just such a crazy team wish so funny comments, that it would be a shame to not take them. Also they are very good in regards of price/performance.

Some of my favorites of JA1/ JA DG (who dont appear in JA2) in terms of personality and (german) voice acting were:

Jimmy Upton: Horrible aim, mostly technician. But he is kind of a Bruce Willis "Die Hard" type of guy.
Speck T Kline: Also a technician. Maybe because he was kind of the only Nerd/Geek there?
Carl "It" Goodman: A very dumb but wholesome guy. A bit like Samson from Sesamy Street. You got to like him.

Some of the other guys i liked and took regularly and prefer to others (again, excluding mercs appearing in JA2):
Needle: Bad Shot, but nice Doctor. Also kind of interesting that in JA1 we actually had 2 mercs with eye problems: Needle and Wally.
Mitch: Anoher great Doc, but expensive
Smoke: As cool and cheap explosive specialist
Leech: Kind of a cool assasin sniper with a look of Burt Reynolds

Some characters I especially like from JA2:
Razor & Haywire as mentioned before.
Robert James Sullivan "Scully": The only super expensive merc which I kind of feel a connection to. However I almost never took him in JA2 due to the price. I think I liked to have him in JA or JA DG.
Larry Roachburn: The only Roachburn left in the JA series, and its the craziest/most broken one. Also a bit hard to handle as you dont want that he becomes addicted again. But he is such a cool and funny guy with some of the best comments in the game.
In the German Version "Alrulco ist scheisse man!...Entzug war viel besser...da haben wir Wachsmalstifte bekommen..."
Grizzly, Fox and Wolf: They overall were just a great team of cheap and sympathetic mercs who also have sympathies amongst each other.

And that is pretty much it.
I can kinda understand that Ivan is so popular, as he is kinda iconic, only speaking Russian in JA1 was kind of cool (though I doubt the majority even played JA1), and he was very good and cheap.
But especially for Fidel or Shadow I don't quite get the popularity.

A very odd selection for sure, but i like who takes the weaker mercs who they like and make them stronger later on in the game, i did this all the time with the prisoner Duncan in JA2 cause i really liked him the way he suffered and got tortured so i had to train him to become a decent soldier so i can keep him in my first squad to seek sweet revenge. Did the same thing with Hector Alvarez in JA1, trained him nearly to a elite merc.

Ivan Dolvich is without doubt a legend and cause of him (may also a lil of Igor) there are so many Jagged Alliance fans and players from Russia.

The same thing goes for Fidel Dahan, a true legend thats the reason he is also in the first intro, he is pretty much the 1 who is representing us the Latinos in the game, like i always mention there should be minimum 2 or 3 more Spanish speaking mercs, imo way too many American mercs are involved which is not so nice & fair, it could be divided much better overall like 10-12 Americans, 10-12 Europeans, 7-8 Latinos, 5-6 African and 5-6 Asian & Arab mercs as example all with their own unique accents and languages. It would also make Jagged Alliance much more popular around the world.

Shadow is surely also a JA2 legend without a doubt, i can imagine lots of military fans loves him cause of his stealth skills, seriousness, a true pro.

  8. Hey there,

I am planning to buy a laptop soon for around 1500 $ range, which 1 would you recommend me ?

Used the past 10 years Apple MacBook laptops but i really want to have a end with it since it can be a lil uncomfortable with USD data transfers (even the PlayStation5 doesn't recognise Apple formatted USB sticks), so i want to buy a good Windows Laptop (which is far easier to open games, had even hard times to open JA1 & JA2 in a Apple laptop) that can carry me at least for next 5 years.

Will use it more for multimedia and internet but also for light gaming (especially for Jagged Alliance 3 soon, cant really wait still it will come to console, so have to buy and play it from day 1 hehehe.) It should perform well (does not need to be the cream of creams but a really good 1), also have a good battery life cause i can be watching videos a lot.

Am not really a laptop expert so am kinda confused what to get ?

Watched some videos on YouTube and they say the Dell XPS 13 (the model looks nice and small, perfect to carry around) or 15 9500 should be good but it also received some critics so i don't know what i should really buy ? I also don't want to regret later on why i did bough it.

So please can someone throw me some ideas, i would really appreciate it.

  9. Who else you would like to see in there ?

I wish Hector Alvarez could make a return from JA1 as his also very immune to hot weather conditions, would suit perfectly to Gran Chien. He is on my first squad in JA1 right now, with a little training he can develop to a very decent merc, i love to train weak mercs i like to very decent stats so i can hold them on my first squad. Also used Duncan a lot in my first squad back in JA2.

  10. Top 3 ?

Am most definitely going with Fidel Dahan, a loco Cuban psychopath of Arab origin, fearless, has very cool and funny quotes with his Cuban accent and also throws some Spanish words (wish there was some more Latino Spanish speaking mercs, would highly welcome a comeback of Hector Alvarez), his stats are pretty good a super all arounder.

Ivan Dolvich, ex Soviet officer representing Russia very proudly, overall 1 of the best mercs, can be very deciding in the battlefield, has also very interesting comments with his Russian accent mixed with some Russian words. A must for me in the first squad. Also suits perfectly together with Fidel, 2 socialist warriors.

Then as third according from the JA3 list so far i would surely go with Vicki, she is my favorite female merc of all, very flamboyant, her Jamaican accent is also very hot (really like the way she speaks in the first trailer), overall very useful in battle but also in fixing stuff.

Like i said if there would be few more Latino mercs i would be so happy, it would also boost Jagged Alliance more in the Spanish speaking community as well, at least a Mexican and a Colombian merc its normally a must (were in reality so many sicarios come from). I really like Miguel Cordona in JA2, too bad he joins you towards the end of the game but he was always in my final squad.

There must be also few African mercs, apart just from Blood! Especially in JA3 now, even if not from AIM there should be 2 or 3 playable NPC mercs in this part.

Other than that i also like the psycho Bull (especially in early game and for his hand to hand combat), Grizzly is another good choice, also a very good friend of Bull. Both possibly more for my 2.squad. Shadow is surely also 1 of the best all arounders but not a very huge fan of him. Igor could be a choice as well for my 2.team.

Hope there will be some other cool mercs, especially Latino & African, doesnt matter from AIM or as NPC.

Would also highly welcome Hector Alvarez`s return which i dont think will happen though.

And hoping we will be able to create our own merc with more details (more portraits and voice varieties to choice) this time.

My first 6 er squad would be like this then :

    Fidel - Ivan - Vicki - African merc 1 - Latino merc 1 & my own merc.

To fight against higher grade mercenaries is a great idea. Why should the main villain not hire mercenaries too? What if we could negotiate with enemy mercenaries and convince them to fight for our team? That would give the game even more depth.

I also hope NPCs can join our team or will become bad mercenaries depending on how we solve specific quests.

I mean the famous black mercs who are well trained and equipped with better gear was already in previous JA series but would also like to see some more enemy mercs with names, something like mid bosses. I found it really cool how many (i think like 5 or 6, if anyone can name them and even with their pics would be really cool nostalgy) named bounty hunters Kingpin had in JA2, once you steal his money he would sent them after you 1 by 1 and they would appear suddenly out of nowhere and able to kill at least 1 or 2 of your mercs. Hope once our mercs die on the portrait will also appear a skull pic.

  13. 1 hour ago, WILDFIRE said:

Yes JA2 had so many great ideas and missions. Too many to count them all. I hope to see also more personal stories for every specific merc to give them more background and depth. Maybe some mercs come to Grand Chien for revenge or have their own little mission.

I dont know if anyone from AIM will be having such feelings but there should be at least a few native NPCs mercs like Miguel Cordona and his crew who will be seeking for revenge.

I wonder if there will be the optional sci-fi encounters in JA3, like there was in JA2? The first time I played the game, I kept those activated, because I didn't know what it was all about. It was quite a surprise when the important northern airfield I captured was attacked at night by giant bugs. I remember there was a cool moment when one of the NPC militia that I had trained to defend the airfield, killed one bug near the checkpoint gate and said, "Alright!" I was pleased for him, as well as thinking how good it was that the trained militia could hold their own.

Further on in the whole sci-fi quest, you find and fight the bug Queen. Getting the royal jelly could be used to further toughen your body armour.

On further plays of JA2, I disabled the sci-fi element and I am glad the developers gave you that option. On the whole of it, I prefer keeping a modern day squad based shooter as grounded as possible.

Would not be bad as optional, in Jagged Alliance Rage we also have blist zombies and those experentimental berserker soldiers who got tough armour which is surely not so realistic but alright as optional.

The game was harder to beat though in JA2 in sci-fi mode as the alien bugs were giving us additional headache, then we had also 3 or 4 level below where we had to hunt down the queen, there was also something of a hidden underground prison were was a few named NPCs who were gravely wounded and would talk in fear with us as i can remember.

I also not really a fan fighting against unrealistic creatures and thats 1 of the reasons am not such a big XCom fan.

Better bring instead of strange aliens enemy vehicles (dont mind if they will be stable like in JA2, of course would be better if they could move around a little) like tanks or armored vehicles with torrent guns that we have to crack down with RPGs or Mortars.

And some wild animals will surely suit in to the environment a lot.

  15. 4 hours ago, WILDFIRE said:

I had a little special idea for some rescue missions. What if mercs could be kidnapped and taken hostage? The squad that saves the merc could get a morale boost and some mercs could get a stronger binding.

Just like in XCom 2 eeeh 😜

Though back in Jagged Alliance 2 we also had a similar situation like that were our few mercs was getting tortured by Mike.

  16. Will be there adult content as well in Jagged Alliance 3 and who would like to see it ?

As example in Jagged Alliance 2 we could consume alcohol and drugs (boosters), drinking alcohol was rising our adrenalin level but also reducing our vision & marksmanship skills, back in JA Rage Ivan had to drink alcohol most of the times to feel good again. It was surely very funny (with his Russian accent) and suiting him perfectly.

Also we had brothel in Jagged Alliance 2 where we could have fun inside the rooms but also had there a lil side quest to save a woman out of there as most will remember and even a XXX shop in Kingpin`s town. We saw already in a screenshot we got in JA3 those old movie tapes.

Here is the full list of all characters I could spot in all the material so far:

    Returning (23/30):
    Ivan
    Vicki
    Buns
    Fidel
    Len
    Shadow
    Igor
    Wolf
    Hitman
    Steroid
    Tex
    Meltdown
    MD
    Red
    Raven
    Barry
    Grunty
    Nails
    Dr. Q
    Raider
    Ice
    Blood
    Grizzly

    New (5/10):
    Fauda
    Smiley
    Omryn
    Livewire
    Kalyna (unclear)

Regarding the black guy on the cover I go with Hongweibing, assuming this is a reference in style to the first Jagged Alliance game.

Regarding the 3 seconds of the trailer:

Nice catch, didnt even look into that one. However I dont see any black guy there. They all have white skin.
Left: Female, brown open hair (white skin on arms). Possibly Raven
Left Center: Male, Bald (white skin on head): No Idea. The only know Merc coming to mind is Jimmy Upton from JA1, but this would surprise me.
Right Center: Male, grey Hair, kind of a barrett (white skin on arms). Possibly Fidel if you ignore the color of the barrett.
Right: Male or Female, ponytail (white skin on arms), likely Fauda

Once again nice analyse, the bald guy if you really assume his white its very possibly the psycho Bull.

Hopefully, the animals won't discriminate against who they attack and will also attack enemy soldiers.

I agree with you but but wild animals will possibly appear more likely in empty sectors were we are walking freely i think but would be also cool if they suddenly appear while we are in a shoot out.

Good question, I tend to agree with Grim's comment above, though the guy could theoretically be the villain (certainly since stylistically, the cover image harkens back to the cover of the original JA, where you had the villain on the cover). That said, in the second trailer you had a short scene (from 1:00 to 1:03 in the showcase trailer) of four mercs (I can only recognize the new merc Fauda there), and there is also what seems to be an African merc, he might be the guy on the cover, in the sense that he is (probably) African and bald. On the other hand, I do not see facial tattoos on him (though we only see the other side of his face) and he has no headband.

And also, since we are talking about the mercs available in JA3 (and since we know from the interview there are supposed to be around 40 of them), I figured a full list of the known mercs to date could be useful to some:

    Returning:
    1 Barry
    2 Buns
    3 Fidel
    4 Grizzly
    5 Grunty
    6 Hitman
    7 Ice
    8 Igor
    9 Ivan
    10 MD
    11 Meltdown
    12 Raven
    13 Red
    14 Steroid
    15 Tex
    16 Vicki
    17 Wolf

    New:
    18 Fauda
    19 Livewire
    20 Omryn
    21 Smiley

    Unconfirmed:
    22 Bald African guy
23 Biff (unclear whether he is playable)

    Screenshot 2022-09-12 153931.jpg

Yes that bald African guy on the cover could be him.

You forgot to mention Shadow (1 of JA2 favorite mercs) his also in the first trailer, showing only his name on the map.

  20. 45 minutes ago, Grim said:

    I generally agree with you.
Since all the other characters are mercs, it's plausible that this guys is a new merc. He may be the equivalent of Miguel (rebel chief in JA2), or Ira/Dimitri in the sense that you meet him there and he comes with you, with his knowledge of the country.
I don't think he is the main vilain. I guess he would have been represented differently if that was the case. As, not looking away, a more malicious or ferocious gaze, in opposition of the mercs in the frame, etc.

    Interesting topic anyway.

Oh ok sure it could be as well our guide of the country of the resistance group like Miguel and the other few playable characters hiding inside the bunker.

Do you think our main villain will be also a African ? or a sadist foreigner from Western World ?

In my opinion it would be more cool if it would be a African, with heavy accent a rebel leader or warlord is pretty possible. A fictional Idi Amin or Charles Taylor (who also hand his hands on blood diamonds). 😉

A foreign main villain would not be so bad either who wants to confuse the country and take power as a second option but am surely more with the first option.

May the African warlord will hire foreign elite mercs like our famous black mercs in the past who are well trained and equipped with better gears. Just hoping apart the main villain we will be having this time also few middle bosses with names. In Jagged Alliance 2 we dont really had it apart Mike.

Also hoping there will come at times some scenes when we win or lose a sector like it was happening in JA2 with Deidranna and Eliot, it will add on additional atmosphere to the story.

  21. I know all of us asked the same thing to ourselves who is that black guy on the main cover ? A new merc or a villain (main villain) ?

Nobody in here knows it so far and it will be kind of surprise to us. The portrait of him is a lil foggy but also the biggest (if we dont count Ivan`s AK) of all in the cover so it might be possibly 1 of our main villains? A African rebel leader, warlord ?

Actually i also think there should be a few African mercs playable for us, even if its not from AIM but as NPCs.
