J1v1n
The title says it all. Has anyone yet found recruitable characters aside from the ones available from A.I.M. (and your I.M.P. mercenary)? 🤓 Jagged Alliance 2 veterans may remember characters who could be recruited at certain times during a playthrough who just joined you for the good cause (Ira, Dimitri, Carlos, Miguel etc.) or who followed you for any other reason (Manuel, Shank, Maddog, Conrad etc.).
shalak
Yes, they are, you need to complete quests for them.
J1v1n
Could you elaborate on what you know (maybe inside a spoiler tag)? 🤫
moqueur
At least five of them. You need to complete their questlines to hire them — and all of them work for free by the way. Some may decline to join depending on your decisions. Two RPCs are your adversaries who can be persuaded to join you. I don't know how to use spoiler tags so I'm not giving any names. Three others have quests associated with them and these quests are available pretty early so I believe spoiler tags are not needed: Flay — marksman. Pretty much ok for me. The easiest one to get — though you will need to pass either a Wisdom or a Leadership check (don't remember which one). The easiest way to start the quest to find him is to visit poacher camp in Savanna (sector C5) Larry — explosives specialist and a pretty solid medic. He can be found in sector F7 but you will need to find a certain thing to hire him. Smiley — leader and somewhat decent shooter. The longest questline which can be started in meny ways. He is one of those who can actually decline to join you (his decision seems to depend on your decision in the very last quest in his line). 1
J1v1n
Good hints, thank you, on my way to get them! 🤗
LoboNocturno
@moqueur At least 5 oh ok, the 4th is Pierre but have no idea how to hire him, i spare him alive though in the final sector of Ernie Island to get him later on. Who could be the 5th ? Biff ? Chimurenga ? Bastien ? Hope they are few more, 4 to 5 recruitable characters are way too small compared to JA2 where was like 13. The roster is smaller overall, and the gameplay economy is already rather relaxed once you get your footing, so having too many people on the team who do not require money would make things even more trivial. Melliores
@LoboNocturno There are some characters that I think were intended to join you if you resolve a quest in a particular way. Prime candidates from what I saw are Chimurenga and DeeDee Bombastic. They can possibly expand on those or focus on adding more mercs to AIM. Adding to AIM is going to be the better solution once they release the mod tools and people will be capable of building their own custom campaigns. Then you will have even more mercs to play with, no matter the campaign. 🙂

Why should RPC`s that doesn't require any money or small money make things more trivial ? I think totally the opposite way, it makes much more sense if they don't require money (or only small amount), you will be financially more stable and later on towards end of the game you can hire whoever you want, need. Got also a different vibes when i got in my team rebels/freedom fighters instead of full of money grabbing mercs. Back in JA2, i loved Dimitri & Miguel, had them always on my main team, also not to forget Duncan (the prisoner from Tixa).

Because in a game about spending money to get the best people for the job, they require no money to do the job. There is enough of them to put together a team if you play your hand right, and you can complete the game with a single character if you know what you're doing. In a game about mercenaries, the focus should be on the mercenaries and there doesn't need to be a robust network of fallback characters for when you run out of money. Melliores
@FGSchichau You get to decide Biff's fate - you can help him or kill/let him die. Both outcomes have their pros and cons. However you will not be able to recruit him. This is a good idea for a mod or possible expansion by Haemimont - to make Biff recruitable. 🙂

The last one is actually too much of a spoiler to reveal. But you can go through the hidden achievements in Steam — there is one for hiring him. As for Pierre — as far as I know in order to recruit him you need to keep Bastien alive on Ernie, to spare Pierre and to find Bastien again in the Refugee Camp and help him before certain big events take place. I came there a bit too late (about half a year too late to be precise) and Bastien wasn't available any more. Pierre himself can be found in F19. Despite the fact he seems to be a late-game recruit his stats look somewhat mediocre.

LoboNocturno
Flay is by far the best new merc of JA3 hands down, his stats is well enough for the start (during mid game am sure he will become elite), his outfit looks ok as a hunter (Indiana Jones & Crocodile Dundee Mixture), his voice acting is also 1 of the best of all mercs with some seriousness at least and he has that real French accent (also throws in some French words, wish there were more mercs who say now and then some words in their own language). I really like him a lot, wish there were more characters like him in the game. Hopefully with DLCs or propper modding we will have more such characters.
