  1. Yup, balance of play I'd say. Forcing you to decide whether you take advantage of NVGs at the expense of protection or keep your helmets. I like it.

I think that SWAT team like gears if any should be kept for the very late game. For me, it's more fun to struggle with lower levels equipment rather than have top notch equipment compensated by an overabundance of foes. JA2 expert mode -> you get that Dragunov much too early and soon get too much stuff, let alone 1.13.

Regarding individual turns over whole-team, I agree with @Raeven

  2. OMG guys, I really admire your sense of perfection. Just sometimes look at the big picture : will I have fun with this game, what do matters, is it a worthy successor to JA2, what matters less but still matters? My personal answer so far is yes to both.

I don't know if there is a merc walking animation and honestly I do not care. Prone, Crouch, Stand is what really matters.

If there actually is a merc walking animation, some will complain they all walk the same way or that the way they walk is too feminine or too masculine or too civilian like or whatever ...

If there is none they say JA2 has it, though very few use it.

In combat it's almost useless. It's ok in a safe area in order to do some tourism, but as soon you know the area (generally during your first run) you run again.

As for the mines, don't always think realism, they are trained mercs, you don't have to babysit them all the time. They spot a land mine as soon as they get close enough if they have the required expertise or are equipped with a mine detector (if any).

As for my comment quoted by @Hellote it is adressed to someone who has systematically despised and belittled the devs work since he joined the community. I am personally tired of reading him.

  3. Providing a demo is a marketing choice. They instead gave a beta version to journalists and influencers. It nevertheless showed some confidence after all.

From the footages I watched, no streamer complained about performances. They were in fact pretty impressed regarding performances.

If you are asolutely unsure, wait a couple of months.

  4. Say the guy that likely casts 'haste' when exploring an area in a D&D game.

You already have made your point. Aren't you tired finding new motives to issue criticisms? We know you want JA2 (1.13) Enhanced Edition. You are not going to get it. Period.

Try JA3, maybe you will surprisingly enjoy it.

  5. Come on guys, I ran Cyberpunk 2077 on my old rig, 8Gb, Nvidia GTX 970, HDD (SSD too small) 1650x1080, without any problem, of course with less shader or so effects, but who relly cares. I have no doubt I will run JA3 without any problem.

Plenty of games have been released without a demo.

  6. Although I do agree with what @Solaris_Wave, I think they want the player to close more the enemy when using an AR as compared to a sniper rifle. In Vanilla JA2 what was the point to use a slow, heavy, 5 rounds M24 when you could use a scoped FN-FAL, 20 rounds, 5AP (even 4AP with rod & spring) delivering heavy damage at a respectable range?

It's a balance of play issue. The important feedback after release might lead the devs to tweak some weapons specs. Besides the basic mod support available from release includes weapons stats tweaking. So I rely on you, weapons expert, to try it.

As for burst damage reduction, I honestly have to play a bit before I form an opinion.

  7. Contrary to the rest of the Army, the French Legion still does not enlist women. (Only Susan Travers was enlisted during WW2). However the "Legion" is imaginary. So it's open. It can follow the French Legion rule or not.

I also agree with @Solaris_Wave and @Lunokhod. There should be more black people and female in militia. Apparently no black RPC too. That would have improve the immersion. I'm aware it's late though.

Lynx and Buzz. In deepest regret we announce the tragic end of the "Romeo and Juliet" of AIM organization. Lynx and Buzz shot each other right in the courtroom when they tried to figure out who would get their common dog "Mr. Biggles". This incident led to increased security measures in government organizations.

I'd like to let the soap opera continue.

Lynx and Buzz : Surprisingly, they got back together. Buzz has even undertaken the writing of her new book 'Overwhelmed, Over Lynx'. They are enjoying a romantic trip somewhere in Africa. We at AIM sincerely hope they get back in one piece.

  9. I'd like to have "The Africans" team for my first run. That's going to be rather difficult.

    • Blood, South Africa : point man  + decent medic + some explosives knowledge (31)
    • Ice, USA: assaulter, can help Intel, Militia and Repair missions
    • Vicky, Jamaïca : support, sniping, mechanic, can help Intel and Militia missions if not repairing anything. I likely have to hire her on a day to day basis.
    • IMP Nzinga 'Queen' Mbande, Angola : High leadership/wisdom, likely negociator/teaching.
    • or IMP Seh-Dong 'Amazon' Hong-Beh, Benin, same specs. I haven't decided yet

    Yes both are historical characters.

Yeah the team is weak regarding explosives and doctoring. Need to avoid bulletss and mines. Besides I likely can't afford Vicky for a week. Well with Blood and Vicky the team is grenades savvy :classic_wink: ...

  10. The difference between ShadowMagic and MagicShadow 😁, sorry couldn't resist.

Is there a glimpse of hope that MagicShadow could be a bit less negative regarding the game? Come on, it's Jagged Alliance, a game in between Top Gun and Hot Shots, in the spirit of movies like Expendables or series like Strike Back, not Zero Dark Thirty.

Instead of widespreading repeatedly your criticisms all over the forum, why not posting for once what you appreciate?

Coming back to the original post, my hype rating is close to 9

6 because I'm pretty sure I will have fun, it retains JA2 mechanisms, free usage of AP, 3D shaped mercs (with weirdos, but that's the spirit), strategic layer, humor, in depth TBS combat, stances, differentiated ammos, all of it served by highly enhanced graphics ...

+1 It's not just a copycat, it adds intel, stealth killings, more RPG interactions, perks. Can't forge a real opinion about the novelties without playing the game though.

+1 writing : keep in mind that Shaun Lyng is a master writer. Ian Currie has taken the challenge. I'm confident the writing will at least be good.

    +1 Modding support

I just hope that the squad inventory won't be accessible during combat.

As for the portraits, I really don't care, it's an artistic choice. I like some, some less. So what? Real mercenaries look like ordinary people not like movie stars. Do you think that Mona Lisa should have worn a hood to look more intriguing?

Google that 'getty images mercenaries' select news photos : here is your housewife, let alone the guy near the car who looks like a comic books character.

Kolwezi, Katanga- A tough-looking blonde female mercenary stands in a group of camouflaged Katagna mercenaries gathered on the road from Kolwezi Jan....

I'm a little concerned and worry about GOG not getting the same support than Steam. Happened to some other games and was reported in the reviewso on GOG. Steam version recieved updates, GOG not. Seems to be a contrac issue. I prefer GOG but want to be sure it's supported with the same attention. Anyone who can clearify this?

I can't comment regarding contracts. I usually prefer GOG but for new games Steam's support is much better. I bought from GoG Expeditions : Rome, published by THQ Nordic too. Some (minor) issues were never fixed, and some updates came later than Steam.

In addition, modding support has been announced for JA3. Steam provides the Workshop. I suppose that mods can be made available on the Nexus, however Steam Workshop makes thing easier.

I'm going to grab it from Steam first. Then later on, if I like the game, what I do not doubt, buy it from GOG to get a DRM free version so I can play with no Internet.

  12. Fauda : Meet top commander Rojda Felat https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rojda_Felat

I'd say her leadership is ok.

    Rojda Felat 2017.jpg

Omyrin : I like your idea. It  reminds me one of Wasteland 2's RPC.

Livewire :  Well I think they want to provide the player with a cheap mechanic/nurse alternative. I agree that Barry is really underpriced.

Kalyna : Yup. Leadership 52 / Wisdom 48 + her specific perk that really sounds discordant.

  13. I think that the squad inventory can't be used during combat. In order to reload during combat, mercs must carry ammo in their backpacks. When the area is secured you can reload from the squad inventory.

Of course just from videos, I can't be 100% sure.

  14. I also played Wages of War. Nice memories too. It was a initiative based system, right? The paradropped mission was memorable indeed. Also The guys outfits were depending on the mission. Kinda ninjas outfits for a heist mission in offices. Snow camo outfits for a mission in the North. Real nice touch.

@Hendrix how do manage to run it under Win 10/11? It needed the Win 16 bits library, if I'm correct.
