  1. In my opinion a couple of these looked interesting and worth to keep an eye on. The video is fairly short (7 min).
  2. I would guess many developers are reluctant to do a all winter environment simply because they do not believe they can create a world that is varied enough to be interesting and people goes: Hey there's just white everywhere! 😂 I've tried a few survival games but I just find them to become tedious very quickly because of a constant lack of food/water/shelter etc. Never really played COD after the initial WW2 games. Me and my friends always went for the Battlefield series for military shooters. But I do recognize the scenario you described! 😁
  3. False, suppressors do not alter the velocity in a substantial way. You may get a change in point of impact and need to re-zero the gun but they do not lower the velocity any more than a individual cartridge to another, in some cases they can even increase velocity. A suppressor is normally not an extension of the actual barrel but rather a "relatively large space to capture the gases" the bullet passes through unhindered once it exits the barrel. And if you would use a rifled suppressor that is a extension of the barrel you would be very likely to get an increase in velocity rather than decrease. There a very few gun/caliber combinations were the length of the gun barrel is so long that the gases have time to burn up and loose speed before exiting the barrel. Of course I am assuming everything is installed and aligned correctly. However for a suppressor to be really effective you will need a bullet that travels at sub sonic speeds, and it still creates about the same noise as opening a champagne bottle. For example a 5.56 cartridges will normally travel around 950m/s and the speed of sound is 343m/s, to get that 5.56 to travel at subsonic speed you would need to loose almost 2/3 of the velocity effectively making it about as powerful as a .22lr. Well I agree they do add a bit of weight at the front of a gun but it makes up with it since the gun becomes more pleasant to shot. The extra weight do become noticeable if you are shooting whit out any support for your arms for some time. I would think that any decent military suppressor (stainless steel) could take a hell of a beating before melting. Sadly I am no longer able to find a video of suppressor mounted to a machinegun where they run through 600 rounds before sticking the suppressor in a water tray, then shake it of and continue to fire. Older suppressors were indeed prone to failure or become unsuppressed after continuous fire or a certain amount of bullets through them due to the limits of material and design back in the day. For JA3 I would like if suppressors were very useful to suppress the noise of pistols and smgs, snipers with suppressed rifles should be harder for enemies to locate at a distance. While suppressing an "assault rifle" is most effective to give the merc a more pleasant gun to shoot.
  4. Exactly! That's the best camo, having people look where you are not. 😁 Jokes aside. I belive the low resolution helps alot to. Here's another picture for reference, taken while I am standing in the same spot. But I thought I was to easy to spot here. Yupp, a sniper would (atleast normally) not take a shoot as close as this picture since that would give them away emidiatly. I would guess they rather not be closer than 500 meters (at the very extreme) from their target and at that distance you would have 0 chance to spot them before it is to late. But just as you said, if you are not expecting to find something or someone, you are very likly to miss them. So hiding from plain eye vision is fairly easy. Here's a link to a retailer for the camo the Finns use, scroll through the pictures and you can se some field pictures. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-l7-camouflage-anorak/58285 https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-l5-thermal-jacket/58315 https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-l4-recon-smock/51301
  5. @Solaris_Wave so we took a photo of me standing next to the treeline to see how the camo works. In my defence I do not try to hide, just standing in front of a snow covered tree next to the road. Sorry about low resolution. You be the judge how well it works or not. 🙂
  6. You think? I mean we do not have a release date yet so my guess is that the game will not be released until the end of the year. Wouldn't that be plenty of time to make changes to a characters looks? I might be completely wrong though. That would be very strange and surprise me a lot. The importance of a player felling/being visually connected to characters they create is well known. For the moment I would assume that the feature is not developed yet and they are using place holders.
  7. @LoboNocturno awesome find! Can't believe I missed this! Found some more info and YouTube links here from the development: https://rpgcodex.net/forums/threads/jagged-alliance-2-lobot-new-sprites-and-animations-mod.140222/
  8. I was taught for short ranges and quick shooting with iron sights, to look above the rear sight and line the protective ring of the front sight at the center of the target. Worked very well actually.
  9. First of all this post assumes that everything is installed and sighted in correctly. Red dot sights are definitely faster, since the dot in the sight will show you were you hit. You do not need to align your eye perfectly to the scope, as long as you see the dot, there's were you will hit. The "trouble" with red dots are that they will hide the area behind the dot in your sight. The dot size are defined in MOA (Minute Of Angle) 1 MOA being 29,1 mm at 100 meters. So a 1 MOA size dot will cover a circle roughly 3 cm in diameter at 100 meters and at 200 meters 1 MOA will cover 6 cm. I personally don't know anyone who has or uses a red dot sight with a dot sight lower than 2 MOA, 4 being most common. The one I own myself is a 2 MOA but I would prefear a 3 or 4 size instead, I personally find 2 MOA to be a bit hard to pick up fast enough. But a 4 MOA sight will cover almost 12cm at 100 meters. A good iron sight does not cover your target since (atleast the way I was taught to zero them) you want to hit just above the front post of the sight. The downside of irons of course being the need to align your eye properly through the sight.
  10. I blame gaming and movies for getting people to think you need 20 times magnification scope for your rifle to be able to hit anything further away than 50 meters. I have personally shot a FN FNC and FN MAG with iron sights up to 400 meters at half silhouettes, hitting was not an issue. True it was only training and not some combat situation, but I think iron sights are better than many belive. Ofcourse assuming the iron sights are made for accuracy. I would even go so far as to say that good iron sights can be more accurate than a red dot sight at range. A scope would increase a rifles potential however. @WILDFIRE reading through my post I think it might sound like I am bashing your post about scopes, that was not my intention.
  11. I would assume it is Ron "Raider" Higgens (Ravens husband) from JA2 and not a new character. Looks like Arulco put some years on him. https://jaggedalliance.fandom.com/wiki/Ron_"Raider"_Higgens
  12. I kinda think that Ice and Nails looks younger compared to JA2 and Thor looks a bit off somehow to me. I don't recognize the JA3 Raven to JA2's at all.
  13. I can hear iron sights screaming: Am I a joke to you?! 😂
  14. 😂 I believe both @GODSPEED and me have said the very same thing several times just on this forum. Trying to squeeze together about 30 years of gaming history here but just like many other (fairly) new tech industries it has gone from garage/hobby development to multi national corporations in a very short timespan. The big company's sucks up the small creative studios and streamlines them into their own market idea for greater sales and as you said there's just the same stuff on repeat over and over again, only whit a new set of paint. However this is also the doom for the corporations, because people at the top of these companies has 0 understanding of their products. They just look at the last quarter sales and streamlines everything to that. That becomes stale very fast. Gaming being such a large market today I think a lot of people are looking for other things to play. But I think you are right, there is smaller companies now that understands their products, are passionate about it, going their own way and believe in their own vision of what the game should be. Of course they are looking to make a profit, but not maximizing their sales of a product. A game for everyone is a game for no one.
  15. No, I think you are right on the spot of the problem but I don't think it is achievable. Just as you stated, light changes both the color of the fabric and the surroundings and getting a fabric to match that is in it self hard to do. Snow shifts greatly depending on the strength of the sunlight, the angle of the sunlight and depending on the weather. Several days of cold weather for instance can create large snow crystals that strongly reflects the light. However if the temperature is around 0 the snow can become grayish. Then upon that (again just as you stated) not only does the fabric have to quiet but also water resistent and breathable. Further upon that, for military use you would also want the fabric to be able to cover you from thermal vision. I am not sure if all this is actually achievable. It might simply be more realistic to develop some kind of cloaking device like we seen in the Predator movies or other active camo tech. During my army conscription we used an all white snow dress on the outside of our uniform, however due to the usage through the year it was mostly the arms and hood that were still somewhat white, the rest of the set had become beige or black. Also since we carried LBE vests our torsos were still green. So I am not sure if the dress would have mattered much at ranges bellow 300 meters. But then I do not think it was supposed to either. Couple of the older guys I hunt with told me that in the 80's they would get white painters coveralls and use green/brown/grey paint to camouflage the coverall. The camo itself worked well, however due to the fabric of the coveralls being cotton, the fabric would suck up so much moisture it became very heavy. Any way, the wife and I went snowshoeing yesterday. It was a bit cold (-15) but it only became a problem when you stayed still for a while.
  16. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GO... sorry my bad, wrong game!
  17. This might be in the game, if you take a look in the latest trailer at the time 1.17, if you pause there and go frame by frame until you see the map clearly, you will notice the player squad intercepting a traveling enemy squad with a symbol of a briefcase with a diamond on it.
  18. Well there would be several candidates. Shadow, Len, Magic, Lynx, Scope to mention a few.
  19. Mr. Currie, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you and your fellow colleagues for Jagged Alliance 2. I was able to buy it in late 1999 during a difficult stint in my life and the enjoyment and relief that game gave me will follow me trough the rest of my life.
  20. Great pictures @GODSPEED! And do not overestimate how "easy" it might be to get a picture of animals. You did not spook them, that's always a good job done! Must confess that I looked at those Finnish M05 camos several times. If you look at the pictures Varusteleka has taken of the sets being used outside it is very much the same type of environment here where I hunt. That Voltage jacket looks good! But I am not sure the camo patern would work well here, maybe the white one. I prefer tubes instead of scarves, I fold it in on itself so it is like a dual layer. I find that tightens the gap in the neck of the jacket well since that allows the jacket to close up all the way. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-neck-tube-merino-wool/29253 For the hands I normally wear wrist warmers. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/swedish-wrist-warmers-wool-surplus/24381 Or a pair of wool liner gloves. https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-l1-liner-gloves-merino-wool/59505 The good thing is that I can wear gloves under the wrist warmers if I need, and if it is really cold I always keep a pair of old leather mittens with a thin wool insulation in my backpack. Not saying this is what everyone should use, just what works for me. Yeah I know exactly what you mean, the set I use today I still find has a unnatural bluish hue sometimes depending on the light, typically during dawn and dusk. I just remember a tip I heard about taking a photo of the camo in the environment you are going to use it and apply a black and white night time filter to the camera. This would then allow you to see if the camo shines or stands out to the background apparently. Never tried it myself though so I can not say for sure if it is reliable.
  21. @bhaa appreciate your point of view mate. No worries, I did not find your post rude in any way. I know laptops aren't really good for gaming. In my case I used to be away for work for several days almost every week having long boring hotel/motel stays in places devoid of anything to do, I bought a Lenovo Yoga 730 15" I used to play games such as Jagged Alliance, Baldur's Gate, Heroes of Might and Magic etc. + watch series and movies. I personally don't like to neither play games or watch movie's on my phone. I probably have to start travelling for work again either this or next year, and my wife needs a laptop for studies so the best solution for us right now is her taking my laptop and me getting a new one.
  22. Sorry if this is basic stuff for you @GODSPEED, I don't know how used you are at staying still for hours in cold weather. Two of the guys I hunt with has gotten problems with their necks (pain and stiffness) due to spending long time sitting still in windy weather. So bring something to protect your neck!
  23. I could not find a specific word for it in English (and I spent minutes of googling!), a direct translation from Swedish is Notice colors (by that I mean notice as in: be aware). Much like the stuff construction workers etc. would wear to make them visible. They are used for safety reasons since many accidents of hunters shooting other people is that the hunter mistake them for animals or does not notice them while shooting at an animal, and yes that is still the hunters fault for not being absolutely sure of what they are shooting at and the backstop of the bullet fired. A lot of hunting here takes place in groups hunting together, most of the people in the group will take up positions in the hunting area were they think animals might pass. Then there are a few dog handlers whom walk through the area with their dogs leashed or unleashed (depending on what the handler think is the best choice for the moment) to get the animals to move. The animals will be less aware of the hunters that have taken their spots since they have their focus on the dogs instead. So even if you are fully aware at the animal you are aiming at you can easily get tunnelvision and not notice the dog or handler behind the animal especially if they don't wear a color that makes them stand out. It can also be the other way around, the dog handler does not notice the guy sitting at his hunting spot behind the animal. Still the fault of whomever pulls the trigger, no doubt about that. Many hunting groups here have a mandatory use of such colors during hunts, I myself always keep a orange beanie or pilot cap in my backpack if I need it and if I am situated on a spot along a road I also have a orange vest I can wear. Most animals does not seem to react much to specifically orange. Moose don't seem to react to it, red deer on the other hand takes of like it's on fire when they spot it. Pink has become a popular substitute for orange since there is a rise of women whom hunt. I cannot say if the animals reacts more or less to pink than orange. Red was used earlier but has in many cases been dropped in favor of orange, red has a strange way of blending in so you don't notice it so easily. Like everything else, sometimes you are just damn lucky and other times it does not matter if you have done everything right. It is always a game of chance and probability. The more time you spend in the woods the more likely you are to spot animals. Again our vision is our largest enemy because we often assume that just because you don't see any animals, it does not mean that they are around. Maybe Shadow has become comfy with age? 😂
  24. @LoboNocturno ah JA, sweet memories of the mid 90's when I never could understand anything about games, being a teen with a bad grasp of English did not help! 😂 Never owned JA myself back then but played it a fair amount on a friends pc. On a completely different note. One of the very few gaming youtubers I follow presented a list of games he was looking into in 2023. While many of them are well known he did have a few lesser known ones that I think might be of interest for some of us. You can find them in timestaps in the info. Broken Roads, Dark Envoy, Cyber Knights Flashpoint and Colony ship.
  25. @LoboNocturno looks like a nice laptop! I assume you have it hooked up to your tv? Are you going or do you to use a wireless keyboard and mouse? If that is the case I would appreciate if you could tell us how that works out for you! Have you tried any more demanding games, how do they run and how much nose to the laptop produce? I myself connected my tv to my laptop via Samsung Easy Connect app (or some such it was called) and while the connection worked without a problem the mouse and keyboard lag was way to much for me to handle, I had the wireless mouse and keyboard connected to the tv instead of the laptop. The lag was severely reduced when I connected the mouse and keyboard to the laptop instead and connected the tv via a HDMI cable. I would like to state that both the mouse and keybord are fairly old and cheap. Will post again when I get a bit of time to try out the samsung app with the m&k connected to the laptop. On a side note, glad to se you got your priorities straight when it comes to the games installed (shortcuts to JA). 😄👍
