  1. I have no idea what you're talking about. This thread is the first time I've posted here this year...
  2. Is it possible to let your mercs walk? I did a quick search of the forums, and watched the newest video footage and such, but I can't see any option to let your mercs take a nice stroll.
  3. Sorry for double posting, but it doesn't look like there's a way to link a picture and then continue writing underneath it? Another thing about non animated portraits is that they make modding so much easier. It takes way too much effort to change JA2 portraits. I've been modding/tinkering with that game for decades and I still can't make a decent portrait for it, whereas whipping up new portraits for games like Baldur's Gate or Fallout Tactics is extremely easy.
  4. I hope they don't animate the portraits, because it's just too easy to screw up. I'm a big fan of JA:Back in Action, but the portraits on there are ridiculous. They look like clones and move in sync at times... Scary stuff!
  5. That symbol on Ivan's hat means the game can't be sold in Ukraine. "Mortal Kombat 11 was banned due depictions of communist symbolism, which is banned per Ukrainian law." They don't have to be interested in the game, they just need something that grabs attention. Most video game controversy is caused by people that aren't actually fans of the games. And it only takes one attention seeking YouTube *celeb* to get the hate train rolling.
  6. Some people in this thread aren't being very realistic. I hate all this cancel culture crap, but keeping Ivan on the front cover is simply bad for business right now. It's not worth the risk of losing sales to an army of negative review bombers. Many people might decide not to try the game if it seems pro-Russian. "The Gaming Industry Unites to Cut Off Russia Ubisoft, EA, Epic, Microsoft, and others are suspending business in the country in response to its invasion of Ukraine." https://www.wired.com/story/gaming-industry-unites-russia/ "As of August 19, we are tracking 1219 companies, of which 882 are pulling out of Russia, and 337 holdouts..." https://www.coalitionforukraine.com/video_games
  7. Some people have been worried that we wont need bullets, but it looks like there's a rifle magazine and box of bullets in that screenshot.
  8. It doesn't look like there's any character customization at all just yet. Buns has a helmet and armour equipped but they don't actually show up on her character. But it's no big deal since each character seems to have their own unique look. The grenades seem to work like Back in Action, where one grenade is actually a stack of grenades. It also looks like they don't need repairing, so no more "Doh!" grenade failures. Also, the first-aid kit has no status/durability or stack size, which might mean medics never run out of supplies? Buns has a bandage special ability on her bar, so maybe healing is a cooldown ability.
  9. Most likely 9th of December since the developer and publisher are both based in Europe and use day-month-year system. Yup, a demo would be great. Heeey... I'm really not that bad, once you get to know me! 😁
  10. Woohoo! I dunno how I missed that.
  11. Cool! Tho no sign of any IMP... but it's still early days.
  12. Looks good, tho still a little rough. Hopefully characters react more to explosions and gunfire in the finished game. In JA2 characters would hit the deck if bullets whizzed by them, and an explosion nearby could knock them off their feet. It looks bloody, but can you still blow someone's head clean off? Also I noticed two characters with peg legs... It was hard to tell but it looked like the grenade wrecked the walls. Destructible environments would be cool. And the mortar is back! I know it's still early but I hope the mercs all have voiced lines, in the footage is seemed to be just text. It looks like there's a morale system. Also looks like your skills increase by using them. Barry gained +1 health for being shot to pieces.
  13. That's not really surprising. I've honestly never met another gamer IRL that knows about Jagged Alliance...
  14. Interesting. I saw no mention of the Bogie shootings in the UK news, which is odd considering it shows US shootings almost every other day. I think it makes sense that most shootings are caused by legal firearms, because in some places firearms are just so easy to get. Why bother trying to find a shady hoodlum to sell you a gun when you can just pick one up at Walmart on your beer run. It takes months to own a basic shotgun in the UK. You first need a doctor to confirm you're not crazy, you also need the police to visit your home to see if it's safe enough to keep a gun, and on top of that you need a valid reason like being a farmer or a member of a shooting club. Self defense or hunting are not valid reasons. ------------------------------ "Eight states — California, Hawaii, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey — have the strictest gun laws and the lowest rates of gun violence. Thirteen states — Kansas, Alaska, Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire, Arizona, Oklahoma, Wyoming, South Dakota, Arkansas, Montana, Idaho and Mississippi — are categorized as national failures for having the weakest gun laws along and highest rates of gun violence." https://www.healthline.com/health-news/these-states-have-the-highest-rates-of-gun-violence-and-deaths#How-gun-laws-contribute-to-firearm-death-rates
  15. I'm in England, the land where most people never see a real gun. Here you can't even have pepper spray or a taser, they're considered illegal firearms. Even carrying simple tools or sports equipment like a hammer or baseball bat can get you into trouble if you don't have a good reason for it. You can't carry any knife bigger than 3 inches and it must be non-locking...so pretty much only Swiss Army knives allowed, and even then most people see it as a bit weird to carry one. I think pocket sand is still legal here... So... enjoy your guns while you can and be glad you don't live here 😛
  16. Some great movies here! It's refreshing to see no one has mentioned the overrated John Wick movies. I can think of 2 fairly tactical movies that haven't been mentioned yet. Den of Thieves (2018) Way of the Gun (2000)

    April Fools'?

The modern world is one big April Fools joke. It's easy to joke about, but this is actually an important topic. The modern gaming world barely knows about Jagged Alliance, and even the fan forums like this one are barely talking about it, so it's not surprising that the one controversial article written about it seems like an April Fools joke. But there will be way more controversial articles once the game is released, and there's a chance that JA3 might be crushed in the reviews by cancel culture types. When most gaming companies are cutting Russia off, and some are even deleting Russian content from their games, it will be pretty bold for a company to suddenly release a game with a Russian mercenary as the hero on the front cover... You've all seen the mercenary company Wagner Group in the news, right? I have no faith in the world. I can see the negative reviews already...
  18. When I search JA3 on Google, it shows up as a console game.
  19. I feel a bit like the odd one out, but I'd really like to see vehicles. My favorite part of Fallout Tactics is just cruising around the wastes in that busted up hummvee. You could set car bombs, AT mines, etc. You could use stealth to steal the tank while the tank's crew are sleeping nearby. If stealing a tank is too overpowered, just make it so there's no way to acquire more tank fuel, so pretty soon it just becomes a stationary tank like in JA2. You could rappel from a helicopter into a position the enemy don't expect. You could hide in the back of a truck as a way to sneak in or out of enemy bases. Having vehicles could be a difficulty option when starting the game like sci-fi mode was. Watch the intro for Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and imagine how your mercs could deal with such an attack.
  20. A good inventory system is very important, but please don't make it cartoony. Also don't forget sector inventory! The last two Jagged Alliance games(Flashback and RAGE) had absolutely terrible inventory systems. RAGE's was probably the worst I've ever seen in any game.
  21. Good review Scylla! I especially like your recommendations at the end. 👍 This is exactly my problem with modern games. No imagination required! I showed my sister Fallout 2 a few months back, and she said she couldn't tell what she was looking at, and that my character looked like a black smudge!!! Oh and like Hendrix says, music is very important. Any music from the early Fallouts instantly drags me straight back into the good times. I still find myself looking up soundtracks from the older games like Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Rainbow Six and such. That's a great way to describe it. Has anyone tried the big Fallout 2 mods like Resurrection, Nevada, or Olympus? I finished Resurrection and it was very high quality. It actually felt like an official sequel/prequel... It takes place between 1 and 2. Olympus was good too but very different... I haven't tried Nevada yet.
