  1. 1) Yes... that over-the-shoulder camera view when you want to take the shot... and having to select the body part. 🤢 🤮 I'm guessing this is a U.I. element they decided either because a) for consoles, b) to copy new xcom, c) never played JA2 and noticed how easy it is to mouse over any enemy (and the part you want to hit) and just right click to aim more. It's extra "layers" of UI/camera jank that is unecessary. I'm also REALLY not a fan of movement being covered by a zone of movement overlay on the map. I like and ENJOY proper THINKING and planning and regretting miscalculations on my part. I SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY hope they won't have the kind of system in place where you cannot move after shooting or locking you out of REALLY doing whatever you want with your AP, in whatever order you want! 2) the removal of interrupts, a very unique feature, replaced with overwatch 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 While we have no way to KNOW it is overwatch, but the icon gives the impression of it being overwatch. Maybe it's the button to "look". We'll have to see... 3) that's pretty self-explanatory...
  2. Sometime today, the demo for STARSHIP TROOPERS - TERRAN COMMAND is being released on Steam.
  3. This whole +1 thing really got my mind going recently. I like the realism the option brings.. but, at the same time it leads to so many other options and complexities. For those of us who do give a crap about this stuff, how would you implement single action, double action and da/sa pistols in the game? I just figure, if they give you the opportunity to pump/cock/rack and extra round in the chamber, I'd like to see the effect of pre-cocking a single action revolver, or cocking a double-action pistol. Technically, one of my favorite systems, is the way Brigade E5/7,62 High Calibre perfected carrying magazines/clips instead of being harry potter and creating magazines out of thin air when loading a gun. Not only does it make the game feel more tactical, but it also means that you THINK and prepare yourself before battles and it can make the use of your sidearm a wiser choice when dealing with an empty mag. This ALSO means, that technically, with great dexterity (and considerable AP) you could/should be able to chamber a single round in a gun you have even if you didn't have magazines for it. I know this is complete wishful thinking and bonkers ideas.. but I've always enjoyed the early struggles of finding that cheap crap rifle that just beats all your pistol/smg mercs early on. Having to load that single round in an AK you found (without the mags) to take that longer distance shot befilore taking on the redshirts with all your wimpy rusty pistols.. ..aaahh I just love the technical crap!
  4. I often say the same thing, and I think we're a bunch that feel the same way. But to be honest, when I REALLY think about it, I DON'T just want JA2 in a modern engine. I have played that game at least once or twice a year for the past 16-17 years. I still play it. Currently going through another game at a leisurely pace. Is that really want I want? A copy/paste of JA2 just with fancy graphics? Mmeh. I'd like to be introduced to new mercs with personalities, what happened with M.E.R.C.? Who's new at A.I.M. ? Now, I have to make it clear, I do not want ANY of the modern day social bullcrap stuff. I want characters with sexist amd racist ideas, as much among the women as the men, I want mercs that are disgusting, others that have class. I just think Buns has now retired and is helping train some mew marksman noble-blooded snob! (I like Buns). Ivan is old now, he's been in so many battles. Igor has become a veteran. South America is still misbehaving since Stephen decided to never go back. Anyways, you get the idea. I want to discover a new story, new characters, new secrets, hidden features... and don't hold my hand! Just keep the gameplay complexity! We are ready to settle for a modern engine JA2 because we've been burnt too many times.
  5. Sure its nice and is another dimension for development, but it pushes the game into XCOM direction, building in base facilities and so. Alternative implementation may be the idea behind a "strike commander" base, to have some conversations with the mercs and may be some interesting missions and locations, based on such interactions, so different mercs might add some different content, as long as we have a main char. This is not such a bad idea @Acid! I know this is just us discussing this without knowing any of the the devs plans.. so I'll see it as a what-if?.. For Jagged Alliance 3, I could see something like a Forward Operating Base (FOB), or some kind of mobile camp setup where it's kind of a central location you can invest some ressources into setting up (but not moving it too often, you have to do it with logistics and ressources in mind). You know, for example, if I refer to the JA2 map.. it would be nice to have a very small convoy-type thing, where you carry whatever troops you want.. it's a good "safe" area they can rest, heal up and where you can keep ammunition, mortar shells, radio communication for artillery or medical evacs in combat... One thing I always found about JA2, is that I always want to find a few mercs that act pretty much as mules. They simply carry stuff... but it feels slightly unrealistic. Anyways, I'm certain you can all come with variations on this.. but like @bhaa said, I'd also rather it not be a base like in xcom... I don't want to "repair,, dig, "build"... I want to simply have some logistical problems to keep in mind while I am not in combat.
  6. Anti-social(media) here too.. It's already a step up that I am active on a forum 😂. Well, thank you for those posts... I'm anxious for them to pitch in and correct us in our assumptions and also alleviate some of our worries. If you mean the last few days?... yeah. I'm excited for JA3 as much as the next crazy nutjob fan.. but I guess there is so much assumptions I like making.. and I guess same goes for many as well. I'd rather know what is what and then pitch in with the devs... although everyone here has been a very good fun to chat with.
  7. I'm excited, but also pissed off! Calling this game Jagged Alliance 3 means they have to make sure to build on Jagged Alliance 2 the way it built on Jagged Alliance. So far, I appreciate some aspects of the trailer/screenshots; the graphical style is just right, the isometric view, the different zoom levels seem right, the way the mercs looks, the minimalist UI. It all looks pretty decent to me. I'm worried about gameplay. The last thing I want for Jagged Alliance is a simplification or dumbing down of strategic layers and ovee simplification the way new xcom treated old xcom.
  8. Haemimont Games isn't an indie dev. They have some pretty big games under their belts! Like any bigger studio, they have a creative director who makes the decisions. Just look at ANY of their games. HG have their own style and identity, they definitely do NOT need the input from a few JA2 fanatics. I work in a creative field, and the LAST thing you want when being creative, is the input from each and every person. That just becomes depressing, because no one is ever happy with anything. Anyways, just looking at how advanced in production they are from the screenshots and gameplay reveal, I'm pretty certain, like any dev team out there, they have their work cutout for them and they couldn't care less for what a few of us say. These things were all decided well before even starting development. They simply created an area for fans to gather and eventually it will give them clues what to create for DLC's, which is the sad part of modern gaming.
  9. You know.. there was a time where it felt PC gaming was going upwards in terms of quality. Let me try and be brief; As an example, we'll take a few games I really liked, but also feel we're well liked by many. Rainbow Six -> Rainbow Six 3 Battlefield 1942 -> Battlefield 2 Jagged Alliance -> Jagged Alliance 2 Baldur's gate -> Baldur's Gate 2 Age of Empires -> Age of Empires 2 Half-Life -> Half-Life 2 I could go on okay... But there seem to be a time where the second game was building on the first. It was trying to fix shortcomings of the first, while focusing on things that worked well with the first. JA2 had deeper strategy layers, characters, world, etc.. Battlefield 2 focused on a slightly less "arcade" feeling, also introducing Commander and squads.. helping really make the game standout by creating the basis for teamwork vs CoD style of every man for himself. Baldur's Gate 2 had better, more mature storytelling and really good character interactions.. I know these are all small examples, and there are SOO many more. But my idea is the second became a better game... not by changing the core mechanics, but by building on them. But then there seem to be a time where everything just "changed". I really started noticing this shift in PC gaming when I got into Battlefield 3, where they really stripped all the more complex teamwork elements for a faster style like CoD. Around this time in gaming, I had also started noticing this in many games. Then when new Xcom came along, it really hit me hard! As much as I did enjoy playing Xcom, because of the setting and it feeling fresh... it didn't take long for me to notice things were not really going back the way they were. Companies would start streamlining things and games started being more like copies of other games. Less creative design, concepts and styles... more of "more of the same as that game"... Just look at how Ubisoft makes their games; pretty much every game they make is the same. They change a few textures, change a few settings for the theme and type of weapons used.. but they have pretty much the same game mechanics for ALL their games, from Farcry to Assassins Creed. DICE making pretty much every shooter feel the same, just a different skin on top. Star Wars and Battelfield feel like a copy/paste. Gaming has gone from creative nerds coming up with ideas to a business prioritizing ease-of-production in exchange of big monetary income. This is how I unfortunately feel JA3 is going to be. It will not rely on BUILDING what made JA 2 better than JA 1... but it wills simply rely on what is common today.. so, unfortunately, i feel it will be a very generic game with some elements stolen from JA because it's a name that goes back a long time. Sorry, this post has really gotten off your original post....
  10. I'm not certain what you do for work, so I cannot speak for you... but I can assure you that when my breaks and lunchtime come around, the last thing I want to think about is work, or anything work-related. I'm pretty certain that employees do what they have to and work is work. They aren't FANS of JA like you or me.. they are simply paying bills and planning thigns with family and friends. The last thing I'd ever want, is for someone to come talking to me about my jobs (even if I have some very interesting jobs/work) after work hours.
  11. Yes, I have come to think of this forum more as a location they can MAYBE look and see if we complain of banter about some features from the reveal/gameplay video... but otherwise, Heamimont Games is NOT an indie dev team that will be looking for our input. I am pretty certain they have their goals, plans and path laid ahead of them and they are simply working at getting to the finish line. Seeing how "advanced" the game seems in the trailers, leads me to think most of the games choices are already decided and they simply made a location for fans to gather and maybe to help know what kind of DLC's they can make in the future. While we, myself included, want to feel like we know our JA2 business and want to offer our wisdom 🤣.... I don't think they care to hear it. Or at least, not until they decide they want to know what kind of "things" we want to pay for to add to the game once it is complete. 🤮
  12. What a great post! I really have to dig deep inside, because since the announcement of Rage, I had pretty much put Jagged Alliance in the completely "dead IP's" section of my brain. I never got into Rainbow Six Siege. I was already out of the multiplayer scene by then. I used to play a good amount of Rainbow Six 3 though. It was my 3D version wet dream of gun porn next to JA2 when growing up. Rainbow Six is the original IP that I discovered a few years before Jagged Alliance 2. It had clicked that fascination with guns.. but I knew so little apart from MP5 versions, the Sig P226 and the FN Five-seveN.. Then when I discovered JA2 and I could take my time... it has stuck to me until this day! Rainbow Six 1-3 we're those slower games the way I enjoyed games. Battlefield 1942 and 2 had also become staples of my gaming diet. Naturally, many games had given me that desire for many features of JA2. Not only did most Turn-Based games make me wish for more of JA, but I also really wish some other IP's would marry and make children. I was always a fan of Star Trek when growing up, until present. The Original Series was good, but maybe a little dated, but I really enjoyed The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise.. enough to have watched ALL those series a good 3 times each (minimum), without counting the amount of times I've watched individual episodes that aired on TV. One Star Trek game I always felt could have been MUCH MUCH more is Star Trek: Away Team. It had so much good.. but I never got a good hang of the gameplay. Star Trek has that personality of characters (and plenty of characters) that would fit right into JA and it wouldn't be too hard to adapt weapons, setting and missions. Not only that, but Star Trek games we're always extremely well voiced by either original cast for their own characters, but also pretty good production values even if the games were "small". JA2 meets Star Trek is kind of a fantasy for myself. But I will require slightly more time to dig through my brain, because I haven't thought of this for many many years...
  13. I did mean dev-published polls... although I'm pretty certain they already have their work set up for them and don't really need our input. It's just me being hopeful that they would want the community input. They may be wanting to wait a little bit to get more users on the forums? Don't really know, maybe if they are quiet because they are busy.. haha.. that's a good thing I guess! I did try and invite some Steam users to the forums here... and well, it does take time before news goes around. Morrowind had the best character creation setup; You could answer questions, select a pre-defined class or simply select each and every attribute yourself. That would be the best here too!
  14. I think us fans of JA1 & 2 tend to be so enamoured with the games that we sometimes forget some of the negative things in those games. Maybe not so much "negative", but details and mechanics that came from the limitations of the era/engine. WEAPON RANGE AND DISTANCE SCALE As an example, one of the things that always bothered me is the "scale" of weapon range. More precisely the difference in the scale of the map versus the scale of the range of the weapons. The problem also came from the resolution the original JA2 of 640x480. There was so little "space" on your monitor that to avoid having to scroll for hours just to take a shot at an enemy 2 houses away, they limited range, but kept buildings at a decent scale compared to the merc. 1.13 update the gun range from 13 to 14 I believe, and for technical reaosn I cannot remember, they could not really double it without breaking stuff. It's still weird. The downfall of this is that sometimes it feels like a .38 Special felt just as accurate as a Mini-14, even with the most up-to-date 1.13. Flashback did try and work on this scale thing by having weapons fall into specific ranges at which they are accurate, but I felt the implementation was a little shallow. Back in Action had a pretty decent grasp of the weapon ranges and the felt scale at which you could fire these weapons. Snipers actually really felt like they had range on the maps. NOTHING beats the way Brigade E5 and 7,62 High Calibre did things... you could litteraly fire an accurate sniper shot across the map! For JA3, I would really like to feel a very good differentiation between the calibers range and also the size of the barrel. And to have it properly translated in "playable" scale with modern high resolutions and being able to properly zoom out to get a good wide view of the battlefield. CAMERA ZOOM This also brings the topic of the camera zoom; there is nothing I hate more then when modern isometric 3D games lock/limit the camera to a low altitude when I should be able to easily just zoom out to get a good overview. I think this should be good with Haemimont Games though, as many of their games are Isometric 3D and do allow a very nice range of zooming +/-. ROOFTOPS Rooftops were always one of those things that just didn't seem to make much sense to me. Most buidlings are so low! Do Arulcans have to crouch to walk around their homes!!? Limitation of the time... I know. Still, I want to see rooftops in JA3, but I want it to be implemented in a more "realistic" way; either having the proper gear to climb to a flat roof, like Batman's belt thing... or ladders. Looking over the screenshot of on the official JA3 site, it seems these details are already taken care of! LANDSCAPE ELEVATION JA2 was extremely simple. either you're on the ground, or you're on a rooftop. Naturally, it will be better in JA3. So far, I believe we will have flatter maps with some various areas that elevate to another height. This is maybe not as "realistic", but I prefer this even if the type of landscape in Back in Action looks way better. The problem with some of the Fully 3D landscapes with varying geometries is usually how weapons/bodies will have problems with clipping and how the to-hit, cone of view and cone of fire will work. The movement and placement of a merc becomes tedious down to a few centimeters.. so I prefer this more flat terrain with various elevation levels that create a more "uniform" playground. I also think this is a less buggy way of doing it. UNREALISTIC COVER A fence should not be cover, but it should help either hide or really lower the "accuracy" of the shot. I would like to see various calibers being able to pierce (or not) some different types of cover. Hiding behind a tree should not be that much of a problem for 7.62. Normal walls made of wood, like most homes and small buildings, should be able to be fired through. Suppressing contacts inside a building by firing at the front of it and watching the bullets go through... that's something I'd like! Anyways, these we're just a few things for now.
  15. I'd play Tzar over AoE! Wasn't Tzar alot like Spellforce? I've only played Spellforce 3, but it's a Strategy/RPG where you level and equip your main heroes, but also control some hordes of fodder? I prefer that than pure RTS! That is always hard to know. I really like their Surviving Mars game. I like the older Tropico isometric 2d games and have not really cared since Tropico 3. Studios change over time, just look at Bioware, Dice, etc.. Use to make some of the best and now make some of the laziest stuff. At least, if there is something that I really like about Haemimont Games, even if they don't have my favorite games, is that they stick to their stuff. Omerta wasn't THAT well received, but they did not abandon it. They patched and even expanded it. So I have respect for their hard work. It gives me a small amount of hope that even if JA3 comes out not exactly as expected, it will not just be dead in the water. Back in the late 90's JA has been made in my hometown of Montreal, Quebec (Canada). And while there was a big division of EA and Ubisoft Montreal, I can't say they make anything good. Ubisoft is probably the company I find the most generic out there. How many assassin's creed do we have? 23? 54? I don't know, I played the first one and it felt very generic, tedious and repetitive. So I don't think education here is better or worse. Many of my favorite and buggy games are of small Russian devs, like 1C and the Stalker devs. I like to look at where a dev team comes from, because sometimes I feel it will influence that style of the game very much; like the sense of humour, the type of weapons, the voiceovers, etc.. As a stereotype and an example: some of the previous JA attempts are from German/Austrian devs I believe, pkease correct me if wrong! And while I realize this is a generalization, but even from my early days of playing Battlefield 1942 and 2 with a German clan; humour is VERY different from the type I am used to - English (british) and French. And those remakes of JA games also lacked some of that humour that comes from my area. Or it was simply not the same for me. I unfortunately do not know as much of Bulgaria as I would like to! So maybe you can help out and give a crash course on your Country! 😘 😁
  16. Here goes with abusing the poll feature 🙂 Thanks to SWi74 for noticing it! Nostalgia and "fun" tell me to go with the questionnaire, but I appreciate defining who I want to be as in 1.13 I am voting for Questionnaire because I think it is a cool thing.
  17. +1 to figuring out the poll thing.... now, let's watch this feature become the most abused forum feature!!! 😂 I'm with Kordanor and qwaqwe on this one. I think JA3 already has such a heavy dose of work to do, and even just getting to the level of basic JA2 is not something I expect, so to make things smoother, les buggy; Transport only. I think Vehicules should play the more logistical part of things, helping you store ammunition, weapons, explosives, gear to various location you want to setup a FOB or place you can at least refresh you gear after a big battle. If there are going to be vehicules for combat, I think they should have very limited mobility and really only be in the most important locations (like the kings palace).. Although, I wouldn't be against the use of remote vehicules, like diffusing robots and basic drones for recon (no missile and armament drones).
  18. Haha! Would be nice to see some of "our" Canadian "heritage" back in this game.. although I doubt they could ever find a Malice in Bulgaria (Haemimont Games)! Malice made me feel like I was at work....
  19. An impossible task, even for me.. 😋 I think they owe it to JA2 to put this one in as an easter egg... with the HK Caws The only way to get ammo with it was from Tony I believe... although they might have added it to Bobby Ray's in some 1.13.. I can't remember, I am playing it now, but I do not have the G11 yet, so I will make a mental note (however that works..) and check it out. Yes, and the PB 6P9 (noiseless Makarov) that I first learned about in Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl... Actually, I've always been a huge fan of all the "prototypical" weaponry the Russians come up with.. and that we learn about like 30 years later. AN-94 is such a good example of another rifle that should be present in game, but not as a mass weapon.. something that some special character has... only 1 of these please! I am seriously extremely anxious to know what weapons the devs have decided to put in the game.
  20. Sometimes, when playing JA2, I decide to add my own "roleplay" by trying to give weapons to the mercs that I think they would be familiar with. So for Ron & Charlene, I would stick to weapons SWAT use, like M4, MP5, Benelli Shotguns,.. Igor/Ivan with russian toys, Gunther with German assault rifles (G36 with grenade launcher)... and so on. I think the first time I saw it was in Stargate.
  21. They went bankrupt. The reception and sales of the game were so bad they couldn't sustain any further development. Laid off most employees to try and keep the patches and updates rolling, but the damage was so severe that didn't last and well, they are history. It's unfortunate really, as much as I wanted the game to succeed, I also didn't want to see them go bankrupt. Their previous entry, deathwing or something of the sorts wasn't horrible... but they simply lacked the experience for such a complex and layered game. That coupled with 'immaturity' when it comes to managing money. It's as much their fault as our fault for having backed the project... but we're a hopeful bunch, so yeah...
  22. I think this is a must; seeing old and run down weaponry with a slow progression towards some more modern stuff is something I really enjoy!
  23. They weren't scammers, they simply did not know how to manage the money properly and it burnt out too quickly and were left to rush the game out the door. They did have communication between some of the JA2 modders, but at some point they probably realized they didn't have the technical know-how to apply some of the features that we're important, and they had their own ideas of how to do things, even if the community hated it. They wanted to try, but they should have worked their way up to more complexity in their games before attempting a JA revival. It was the biggest failure in the JA attempts. I did complete the game, it was hard! No, not the game, but to firce myself through it; ot's the most painful game experience I've ever had. I felt I was playing the most simplistic mobile game on my pc. I should have just printed out a Jagged Alliance 2 poster and stuck it on my monitor instead. ...that, or find Babes and Bullets centerfold of Fox...
  24. I want ALL GUNS. But the point is to pick your 3 favorite. I've always been a big fan of battle rifles and high rof assault rifles, but also compactness.. so for me, if I HAD to really pick 3 of my favorite weapons I absolutely wanted in JA3; - DSA SA58 OSW Fal (Help I've Fal-len) - HK G3KA4 - FAMAS G1/G2
  25. Valid points here. JA2 really has this way of balancing out these little out-of-nowhere details like bloodcats and crows/ravens eating remains, and the idea to have those lab bugs in a game that was pretty well balanced in fictional reality (okay, maybe minus the rocket rifles... haha). I'd love to see something fresh though... not necessarily a copy/paste of JA2.
