Look, I live in a poor country which had average month salary about $10 during 90s. People were standing on the streets selling their old shoes, clothes, forks and spoons, some people had piece of paper with announcements like "I sell xxxx" and you always could come by and ask about what it is, what it is used for and other properties. Vendors can be poor, but they are not crazy, they understand that buyers need to know what they are going to buy. So no, your reasoning does not make any sense. And please don't continue discussing it, you seem to have no idea what you are talking about here.

Sure. Been there done that. Yet a local 'targ' or different bazar style place isnt comparable to Grand Chien, not only because they are in the middle of massive war but also because Grand Chien isn't exactly real 😄

Probably you forgot what I am talking about. Here it is again:

"I cannot even check what I am buying. Strings like "Glock48" tell me nothing. Is it a pistol? Damage? Distance? Ammo? Other properties? Why should I buy it instead using one of dozen pistols I already have?"

Now your comment does not make any sense, not mine. You defend the approach by basically saying the vendors are poor and uneducated people. Why would I buy unknown stuff, even from poor people? I am merc leader killing people, not charity organization.

Yes that what they are. You are buying 'cat's in the bag' they are not arms dealers, nor ammo dealers. They are not Tony or Bobby Ray specialised merchants. FFS - look at them, its bunch of dudes on the bazar selling crap from the foldable tables in the middle of shanty town. You are expecting them to have guns that come with full spec and warranty well oiled in the pretty box? No - you are getting some firearm (cat's in the bag) that you will learn more about when you put your hands on, disassemble etc. It makes perfect sense in these circumstances.

Why would I buy unknown stuff, even from poor people?

Then don't buy. It's not requirement to buy from them it is choice.

@Jaywalker I do agree. I liked 1.13 but I was finished the vanilla JA2 many more times. 1.13 had too much options for me and was over complicated in areas that you said.

If you never tried - play Straciatella mod - if you feel need going back to JA2 though. Since JA3 is a worthy successor 😉

My issue is I don't care about narrative, roleplaying, story. All I care is gameplay. If gameplay is bad, I complain and want it to be improved, and narrative/story are not valid excuses for me.

This makes no sense at all. What you saying isn't gameplay and what you suggest is not improving it - its breaking the game to fit someone who doesn't care, in the slightest, about the Jagged Alliance part of the title. This is fine - but it doesn't make any sense. You are playing after all a story driven RPG game with TBS elements not a sandbox Civilization style game. Maybe you need to play different game then? Try 1.13.

Those traders are awful because I cannot even check what I am buying. Strings like "Glock48" tell me nothing. Is it a pistol? Damage? Distance? Ammo? Other properties? Why should I buy it instead using one of dozen pistols I already have?

I even accidentally bought one item by misclick (there is no confirmation) while I was trying to leave that place.

yes they are. All that fits perfectly into the narrative and story. They are not arms dealers, they are some poor dudes selling rubbish on some weird bazar like setting in the middle of god forsaken country torn by civil war, coup de etat and other 'fun' activities. So yeah, they may have limited shit stock of items they dont udnerstand themselves.

You must be in the sector. Taking/throwing does not work that way. Only with the sector you are. And even there you to be to hideout if it is in there.

yes that what I meant. You need to move to the sector, and open sector inventory and do it from there. not just dropping stuff all over the place.

It will disappear sometimes. I lost several guns and ammo in the K10-Mine, which I left there. Other things still in the place where left them. I'm not sure if the militia appropriated this in K10?!

I stand corrected then. I never had anything disappear but, admittedly, I would rarely go back to pick these things anyways or that I would remember what exactly I've left behind 😛

After playing more, I have a few things to add to my earlier assessment.

    - Allow crafting materials to go to the shared group inventory (like the mod from the workshop alrady does)

+ Agree here - it would be easier that way. However people will whine and complain on squad splitting as they will forget to move materials. I am 100% certain,

    - Allow to scrap knifes

    + 100%

    11 hours ago, LXant said:

    - Allow to put explosives in the shared group inventory, as they're technically projectiles (albeit thrown ones)

    - Disagree. Explosives should be in each merc inventory. Side note - its funny to see how the tune changed (not saying you personally) from pre-release - 'we hate team inventory' to 'omg add more things to shared inventory'

    11 hours ago, LXant said:

    - Allow to combine upgrade items with unique weapons (i.e. sharpening stone with "The Thing")

No opinion here. Could be useful, could be not. I would love to see some document in the game listing all possible combination - but that's just because I am lazy

    11 hours ago, LXant said:

    - Bring back the online shop for basic items like ammo, and increase ammo drops

Since there are no airports - the online shop could be added but with very long lead times - so it doesnt break the game economy or the world settings. OR which would be very cool they could do 'drop' by parachute somewhere in the area of the desert where it would need to be found, could go missing, broken, scattered and/or fought over with enemies.

    11 hours ago, LXant said:

    - Change the traders, so that they have something like a shop and not a table with a 24h cooldown that only offers one single item

No. Disagree. These traders fit perfectly in the world setting. It is a backward country, with a civil war, evil corporation, communist and f... know what else fighting over it for years. These traders are some poor souls scrapping together what they can find and selling whatever they get. It makes way more sense to have them like that on the... well, flea-market, after all than some sort magic gun runners with massive supply of ammo and custom guns.

I'm not sure where you see me having a problem with this, as I agree it serves a different purpose. That's why I entered this discussion by pointing out the difference between overwatch and the "look here" button in previous JA versions.

I really don't. Just replied and quoted first answer to my post - happened to be yours 😛

However! There was no function of 'look here' button in JA2. It served no other purpose than just saving 1-2AP if you had any left for next turn. Your merc had 360 vsion anyways... changing where they were looking at made zero difference.

To be honest i dont miss any remaining AIM merc back from JA2, instead i would be more happy if they could design the mercs better overall. I found the new mercs, especially Livewire too cartoony (her look and voice really goes into my nerves, would prefered Buzz instead) and Kalyna is not really suiting to Jagged Alliance either imo so instead i would be happier to see Bull or Malice (as he is French, would suit to Grand Chien).

Who i would like to see again hmmmm Hector Alvarez from JA1 or Hamous (since he was in JA1 & JA2) or Brain from Wildfire (was 1 of my favourites in Wildfire, best door and crate opener ever) would be good.

Wildfire characters are not JA characters 🤭
I love the characters in 3 - the grotesque cartoonish colourful mad kind like Kick Ass characters is exactly how they always were and supposed to be - this time finally (due to progress in tech) are executed perfectly.

as for who I miss would be probably Buzz as I would sometimes get her in the beginning.

Overwatch causes the merc to automatically open fire once an enemy moves into the vision cone. Can you configure overwatch to not do that, and instead, say, move or go prone?

It’s such a bolloxed artificial ‚problem’. All your mercs have 360 vision (like it always was in JA and all tactical games pretty much). All you need to do is position your scout where you need him/her to be. Get him into hidden mode. And once he detects the enemy do whatever you’d normally do. No need to set overwatch which serves different purpose.

    @Tzg@D13@MateKiddleton

What part of 1.13 that is forced on you turns the game into a milsim?

@GODSPEED let me reply by quoting yourself

I'm NOT looking for a 'fight'.. more to understand such thoughts

This are my thoughts. It feels like that for me. I don’t need it and similar to @MateKiddleton it doesn’t feel

like Jagged Alliance to me anymore. I don’t have problem with people loving it to the extreme of being borderline fanatics. Each to their own - but I do have problem when loud fanatics are trying to impose their version on everyone.

One of the many drawbacks of not having proper vendors. We need Bobby Ray's and Tony! 😁

Yup. But there’s no airport and I don’t think Bobby rays do delivery by sea 😉

@Warmonger down in Porto Cacao - the dumbster (I call it junkyard because of fallout) you can craft ammunition there with right merc and gunpowder 😜

  14. 1 minute ago, Warmonger said:

Game so far is best Jagged ever imo. But why this lack of ammunition? I am mainly running after that. Unbalanced!

There’s tonnes of ammo 🙂 - just craft it! Take over the junkyard and you can make all the ammo you need there. Didn’t have issue with lack of ammo…

  15. 7 hours ago, D13 said:

The tactical difference I see is that overwatch tells the merc to shoot on sight, whereas in JA2 I could choose what action to take. For example, I could set up a "scout" type of observer to locate enemies. When I would get an interrupt, I could use it to do nothing more than hide, and during subsequent turns move my other mercs in that direction.

And what exactly stops you from doing this is JA3 ? You are not seriously suggesting you can’t do it because there is no option to rotate your merc around?

    7 hours ago, Jaywalker said:

Cause it's been that way in all of the previous ones, not to mention 99% of all tactical games ever?

The only reason to turn your characters around manually in JA2 was to avoid the cost of doing so on the next turn. All entities always had 360 vision, having a frontal FoV was a modded "feature".

Further to the point of @Jaywalker- it’s like you guys never played JA2…

  16. I can only speak for myself since you called me out 🙂

I don’t hate 1.13. I played 1.13 million times. I just feel like 1.13 changed the game beyond what Jagged Alliance 2 is - a quirky TBS with some light realism and loads of pisstake on 90s action movies.
1.13 pushed it into realm of seriousness and realism. Not what JA is or ever was about.

For better graphics, resolution etc - I have straciatella mod.

  17. I agree with the @Chris Xia and @GODSPEED in principle.

Like @GODSPEED I love the look of the mercs I hope it will stay.

I disagree with this not being JA it totally is. It’s great and how successor to JA and JA 2 should look like. Yes it isn’t in line with 1.13 - but for me at least - isn’t real JA it expands on it towards realism and better tactical game but kills its soul in the process.

Yes it isn’t perfect but it is great.

Agree with most from above. It is a great and true JA. Further more my time with JA2 is over then as I can not image to fall back there. Some details should be fixed/made better and they are already mentioned above, so that so to avoid repetition I will refrain from addressing it again. JA3 is JA. The atmosphere is also increasing, I like the squeaking of the mercs a lot meanwhile. Unfortunately, the "Major" is not a Deidranna who has always maltreated her Elliot so beautifully. One hated Deidranna after 5 minutes, while the "Major" so far is not really of interest.

In any case, however, a fully comprehensive JA, probably the best even, which I personally give 90 points, which may increase to 99 points if the one or other recommended fix is done. And no, I had not a single crash with this game yet. Bravo!!!

Major is actually very good. I don’t want to spoil anything but I 100% love what they did with this dude. Once the identity is revealed any true fan of Jagged Alliance series should be super happy. It is clear it’s been done by fans or people who knew the series really well.

Beware! If only one of your mercs is in, auto-combat is not available. So pull them out if you want to have it auto. Normally auto works for victory - well it did often in JA2 -. If you are with mercs in it can take endless time. On the other hand in some critical strategic situation it may be needed that you "personally" in with your mrecs there.

thats not true. Auto combat is nearly always available - unless specific conditions are set - which is very very rare.

Exactly! Without active pause, the game can't be enjoyed and pleasure is replaced with frustration in the "RTS" part of missions. I see requests for this everywhere I look for reviews and comments, Steam is simply full of this.

I won't continue playing until this is implemented, I want to have a good experience playing the game. I'm even considering returning the purchase and go for Xenonauts 2 instead (releasing tomorrow) and come back later once it's fixed 😉

Just do it. Return. Stop whining. It works fine - and it works fine on steam deck with less than perfect controls. It works better on pc. Active pause could be useful but its dumbing down the game to the lowest common denominator.

  21. I see this. I played JA 2 I don’t know how many times - gazzillion probably.
I have never ever bother with arming militia. It was quicker and cheaper just to hire cheap guys from merc and keep them strategically positioned so they could jump and train more.
