Maddog

"I heard bout you"

Yeah lol, everything about him is just hilarious .. First time i encountered him was during nighttime, it was early in the game and my team had weak armor and pistols, and i was very unfamiliar with the game.. i don't quite remember how you offend him or if he simply attacks during nighttime, but i managed to offend him somehow ^^ He mowed down my team quite quickly and it was scary ^^

The man laughs when being shot at .. even with his intestines floating out he doesn't show any fear. It's like the epitome of what you want on the battlefield. Only thing lacking is the team spirit factor. I really hope they bring him back to be a surprise top merc in JA3. He is always one of the front runners for me and i try to train him any time possible.

"I GOT NOTHIN ELSE TO SAY!!" xD

Somebody else brought up another great quote of his "I ate every bug along the way. There were many." haha he says it so nonchalantly like it's something that really happened xD

I thought about mentioning that too ^^ The guy eats bugs to stay alive, how could you not want that guy on your team? I always thought he was serious about it ^^

Reuban. He wasn't very useful but was very cheap. I don't know why he had 28 wisdom, seems smarter than Bubba since he speaks english better than him (and isn't even his native language). In Ja 1 wisdom didn't affect much mercenary skill growth, Reuban could learn very fast but....he leaves the team if he doesn't kill enough!
Turtle in DG was super cheap too (75 at level 2), had a good markmanship and with a week of training could move at a decent speed...but he wasn't as fun as Reuban.

Newcomer here, very cool that there is an active JA forum. The bear's pit is very inactive.

My fav merc of all is Maddog. Completely fearless, expert lockpick, great repairman and free. Best merc overall. He should be a top merc in JA3. Also especially given his ending quote in JA2; "Where do i sign up to become a professional at this"...

In my latest game, after stealing from Kingpin, I raced down to Estoni or whatever, to be able get Maddog eraly in my game.

I think the problem is that if you take him halfway through the game, so many mercs can do wtv he does, and money isn't such a big concern. [I realize that may just be my playstyle though.]

You steal from him early? ^^ Those hitmen are difficult to deal with.

I guess it's a personal style thing how or if one wants to keep him along or not.

Always day 1 or two.

I don't know, it's become my "habit"!! 🤣
I run towards San Mona from the start to have a good financial cushion, be able to capture a town and train it up before ever needing to capture the mine.

I feel like this is the only way to beat the "Massive Counter-Attack at Drassen". You kind of have to find ways to 'cheese' the game.

Yes, they are hard to deal with, but they provide some decent assault rifles early on as well. 😁

I guess you are writing about the 1.13 version? ^^ In the original game, the counterattack on drassen is hardly noticeable... and training militia is usually easy and quite affordable.. But i actually agree on the early stealing strategy, that is when you need the money the most. And taking out the mob is usually possible at least in the early-mid stage of the game.

Yes, exactly, 1.13.

The Drassen Counter-Attack - for my skill/style of play - would be impossible unless I try and twist the game as much as possible. I want to make sure I get it activated early enough so that I am attacked mostly by pistols/smgs at most. That way my couple meercs with Rifles can actually do something.

On another note, i found the hitmen/persons a very cool and scary addition to the game. Just showing up so suddenly ^^ their personalities were very well made too. Iirc they kept coming back even after you killed them. Would be very funny if one could hire them ^^ i looked at their stats chart and most of them have very high stats.

Absolutely! A few days after I receive Kingpins final warning, I'm always keeping an eye out. As soon as I see a civilian walking towards me, I initiate combat.

If they get the jump on you, they can easily take out a merc on the first turn. I usually try to use Dr. Q/Blood/Grizzly (I usually have one of those for the UFC match in Kingpins bar).

Anyways, it's an interesting challenge early on, but it offers decent rewards. Usually you might still only have a Mini-14 and some MP5's... an AK-74 is welcome!

So which means you can attack La Chitzena first right from San Mona ? If so yea its kind of a hustle to go way back to Drassen (especially if you escort the 2 old American tourists), i can leave Ira or Dimitri in La Chitzena to train militia. The Drassen attack can be bloody, especially in JA2 Wildfire where are like at least 25 enemies in each sector. May not in OG JA2 but in Wildfire you can get really superior mid to end game weapons quiet early.

Oh yes there are 6 or 7 of them, all elite sicarios. But to be honest you have nearly no change against them without been severely wounded or even dead, sometimes can even kill 2 or 3 of your mercs in the sametime. Thats why when i leave some mercs in the town, i can place them to the roof tops to avoid been killed, cause on the ground you are in very high danger, if you steal Kingpin`s money and dont save the game constantly you are in big trouble.

There was a Jamaican sicario with rasta and shades as he is the first 1 that comes to my mind,he was cool though. Would be fun to hire 1 or 2 of them.

I just Googled about all of them and its not possible to find all their portrait pictures, if i do such thing in my current Wildfire run, i will most definitely snap their pictures and post it.

Shadow.. hands down.

Can conquer the whole of Drassen town with him (alongside my IMP) due to being hard to spot, extremele agile, greath health and dexterity.

I like his Bob Lee Swagger type of style. Solitaire with his rifle, cool and never panics.

Magic and Ice follow close after.

The absolute final boss original gangsta overlord of all JA mercs is of course Ivan Dolvich. People can have a different opinion about this, but they'd be objectively wrong.

Just kidding, to each his/her own. 😛

Other than that, I have a special fondness for the merc you create, since this is essentially your avatar. And some mercs than deserve special mention: Steroid, Static, Fidel, Shadow, McGillicuty, and Len.

I'd probably pick Igor.

At first he was my choice because he has decent stats and is extremely affordable, but he just tries so hard and is a real grunt who usually earned place in my A-team where he was a support to Ivan who was a heavy weapon specialist.

The dialogues between them also helps them to be (some of the) favourites.
