I played first campaign without any weapon mods, then snipers are not that great. The game needs many mods and self-imposed limits to be fun for me 😞

Did you finished the game as well ? But even snipers without any mods, they will keep missing too much or not ? Which is also frustrating when you keep missing. May can do that in the start but once you come to the mainland its recommended to have a scope and silencer. I like to play on stealth still i get detected like in Syphon Filter.

    @Hendrix

We all saw that 2 to 3 months ago when they played the beta, that the AI seems poor, though they would fix it and also some other stuff but they did nearly nothing to the beta which is surely a let down.

The last one is actually too much of a spoiler to reveal. But you can go through the hidden achievements in Steam — there is one for hiring him.

As for Pierre — as far as I know in order to recruit him you need to keep Bastien alive on Ernie, to spare Pierre and to find Bastien again in the Refugee Camp and help him before certain big events take place. I came there a bit too late (about half a year too late to be precise) and Bastien wasn't available any more. Pierre himself can be found in F19. Despite the fact he seems to be a late-game recruit his stats look somewhat mediocre.

Wow ok i saw who it is, really curious now, why and how. 🤫😉

I have the absolute same issue. Went through ever house and killed all the upcoming infected but nothing to find. There was something going on with the cattle next to Monday but couldn't read quick enough but also don't think it's sample related. I also still have the mission sign over Monday ... No idea what to do

Well that is another problem of JA3, those white texts on the characters head disappears too fast and we can not read it on Snype notes either at times, the very same thing with clues (the text appears only once, cant reclick it to read), sometimes even the villagers can give us important infos but its just for once. At least back in JA2 you could repeat what they say.

Anybody else who thinks Jagged Alliance 3 resembles to GTA San Andreas the way the characters looks like in game and the blood as well lol.

  4. Once you mod your weapons well and get mercs with good stats you just keep sniping them from distance (half of the enemies as you said), the rest of them will try to rush on you, which you can set overwatches, especially with the light machine gun you can take the rest down easily.

The enemies seriously has no strategy and keep coming to you, the only concern is taking covers, most covers are not giving you a feeling where you can be very safe as in JA2. So thats where i am getting some damage now and then.

As i heard later in the game comes stronger enemies, with heavier armor which will need more damage to take down and in few sectors the enemies coming with some reinforcements. Didnt reached there as yet but the prison sector should be pain in the @$$ as i heard.

  5. @Tzg Ok ok thats your opinion, but most of us think very differently in here. Yes JA2 had the 80s, 90s action movie vibes but still it was way more serious then JA3 is. There were a few flamboyant mercs and NPCs as well but just several of them, in JA3 i could count with my 2 hands how many serious mercs are, not even talking about the NPCs as %95 of them feel way too cartoony & silly.

The tactical battles were the most realistic among its own genre, we loved JA2 cause it brought us somehow realistic feeling. You are just a rookie in here, we were crying here since 2 years that they should try to make JA3 as realistic as possible and most of got disappointed as they made it too cartoony. 1 of our best members in here @WILDFIRE can explain it better to you.

We even complained how is it possible to gain weapon parts from wrecked cars, generators etc... or get medicine out of cactus trees lol, they simplified everything way too much, but guess for the Fortnite generation is a very pleasing thing.

Jagged Alliance 2 were surely not the childish game like they made it in JA3, where even the enemies (Legion) looks like clowns.

Never played Diablo (too much fantasy idk) so will not play Diablo 4 either, saw Xenonauts 2 as well but didnt liked it. I dont really play any other turn based games other then Jagged Alliance (played XCOM2 last year on console as exception which was ok but nothing special imo), if there is a turn based game i would give a try its Urban Strife.

@sandman25dcsss I am also in around 40 hours of gameplay (though i left the game also open for the whole day, so am probably around 25 hours of gameplay) and am still trying to conquer the northern deserted area before i can move down to the southern wetlands. The game takes time for sure (also repeating some sectors at times), so who ever finished it in the highest difficulty within 4 to 5 days, my hat goes off. I recommend to play it on commando first as its challenging already.

  6. @Chris Xia WOW finished already within 5 days and in the hardest difficulty, congratulations. Guess it will take me a few weeks to finish it on commando.

But i do agree with most of your thoughts about the game. Maybe for the newer audience that doesnt know Jagged Alliance, they are fine with those colourful Fortnite art but in my honest opinion Jagged Alliance should be more realistic, darker and simply more gruesome. Yes the maps are nicely designed but too small for sure, that is a reason why most of the maps are like 10 enemies, once you have in a sector 20 enemies its like the insect fights where they put to a aquarium a centipede, tarantula, killer hornet, scorpion all together lol.

If they make later on a Jagged Alliance 3.5 or 4, it should most definitely have bigger maps and the AI of the enemies should be improved, back in JA2 it was not very different either, once the enemies notice you they will just bull rush you. The enemies should try to flank us, also try to hide sometimes in a corner or building to ambush us suddenly, or once we cleaned almost the whole squad the few wounded survivors should try to escape (they were doing it sometimes in JA2).

The gear should also appear like back in Jagged Alliance RAGE, those small details brings much more realism and fun into the game.

  7. I dont know if anyone else posted about it on here, but am at least happy that the gasmask appears on your mercs, is it with some helmets like that too later in the game ? You see its not a hard thing and they dont look like the same, they should normally make appear the gear (helmets, googles, vests and may even backpacks visible). It brings so much life to our characters and they look at least half way ready for battlefield.

See how my Barry look like, absolutely amazing.

PS : With Terminator 2 Poster behind. 😎

The roster is smaller overall, and the gameplay economy is already rather relaxed once you get your footing, so having too many people on the team who do not require money would make things even more trivial.

Why should RPC`s that doesn't require any money or small money make things more trivial ? I think totally the opposite way, it makes much more sense if they don't require money (or only small amount), you will be financially more stable and later on towards end of the game you can hire whoever you want, need. Got also a different vibes when i got in my team rebels/freedom fighters instead of full of money grabbing mercs. Back in JA2, i loved Dimitri & Miguel, had them always on my main team, also not to forget Duncan (the prisoner from Tixa).

Wildfire characters are not JA characters 🤭
I love the characters in 3 - the grotesque cartoonish colourful mad kind like Kick Ass characters is exactly how they always were and supposed to be - this time finally (due to progress in tech) are executed perfectly.

as for who I miss would be probably Buzz as I would sometimes get her in the beginning.

Of course they are even if it was a mod but a damn official 1.

I totally disagree, they went too much to Fortnite direction in JA3 (Mercs & NPCs design & voice acting) but we have to live with it (may with proper modding we can bring back the seriousness), (always were?) back in JA2 you had seriousness in the characters, more with a dark humour.

  10. To be honest i dont miss any remaining AIM merc back from JA2, instead i would be more happy if they could design the mercs better overall. I found the new mercs, especially Livewire too cartoony (her look and voice really goes into my nerves, would prefered Buzz instead) and Kalyna is not really suiting to Jagged Alliance either imo so instead i would be happier to see Bull or Malice (as he is French, would suit to Grand Chien).

Who i would like to see again hmmmm Hector Alvarez from JA1 or Hamous (since he was in JA1 & JA2) or Brain from Wildfire (was 1 of my favourites in Wildfire, best door and crate opener ever) would be good.

I'd say Fleatown, then up to the outpost (where you find Larry), then to the Refugee Camp and to unlock the communist questline and get the brothel quest going in Pantagruel. That paves the way to later go south and recruit Smiley once you go back to Fleatown.

But before you go there, you first go west to recruit Flay, get the mine ($6k or $7.5k, depending on your choice there, no loyalty requirement), the unique sniper rifle "Gold Fever" and then you can mostly forget about the entire area. It never comes under attack, makes you a good amount of money and you have the benefit of an early free merc.

With the Communist pamphlet in hand, and if you managed to get the ad for the brothel on it, you can hand it out practically everywhere (even to Flay when you recruit him) and under the most absurd circumstances, gives you free loyalty with Pantagruel and when you hit 100% loyalty there, you get the mine for free. A pretty powerful mine, which operates at $10k per day at 100% loyalty.

With Fleatown you also have access to the medicine from the loot boxes to recruit Larry, who you can later fully restore in the hospital in H12 for another good free merc. So now you have Flay, Smiley and Larry.

The free mercs, the money and the weapons provide you with enough means to get two full teams (or more) to actually fight the big battles, like rescuing Biff or defending the Port Cacao Museum from 20+ enemies.

After that it's up to you where you go, but if you did everything right, you should be on your way to also get Pierre to join you for another free merc. To my knowledge there are no more free mercs beyond those, although I hope there are.

But that's about how I think is a good way to approach the mainland.

Totally agree, this route seems like the best so far, especially getting Flay is a key (if you can get Larry & Smiley even better), i tried to go directly from the Ernie Island to the North West where there is a mine with 10 slaves and their slave master with a "Golden Sniper Rifle", tried to kill a couple of his men by stealth but once you are detected he is sniping the slaves 1 by 1, guess you need 2 or 3 silenced sniper rifles for that sector if you don't want any of the slaves to be killed, so i changed my route to Fleatown (guess they took the name from Sierra Leone`s capital Freetown, where is also lots of blood diamonds), it makes sense to control Fleatown first then you can go slowly to the northern part of the desert land.

PS : How to recruit Flay, you need go to the "Poacher Camp" first in C5, you need to kill all enemies in the sector before you can talk to the hunter "Hyena Gilbert", then you need to find 3 dead bodies (1 in C6 and 2 in B4) after finding all 3, Flay will also appear in B4 where you can talk and get him. (Need a merc with wisdom 90, Barry or Buns as example could do it easily)

I didnt get Larry & Smiley yet, though i tried to get Smiley the first time i arrived to Fleatown, he is locked up in the room, behind the church, cracked the wall with C4 and talked to Smiley but once the convo is over the church getting ambushed by many strong enemies (Boss`s thugs i guess) so i just left it and will get him later.

Yes overall i also noticed only 4 recruitable characters, which is pretty small compared to JA2 which had (over 10).

BTW a question, i got Livewire as my mechanic (perhaps the most cartoony merc of the game) as she has a unique USB for hacking but she goes really into my nerves with her childish voice and speeches (we cant mute our mercs neither like in JA2) "I want my 15 minute break", but i noticed other mechanics such Steroid or Vicki can hack exactly the same amount of stuff too, guess i will change Livewire with Steroid for now and later on will get surely Vicki as my main mechanic.

It's pretty fine for animals to be quite tough, otherwise they will always be a non-factor. JA2 cats were extremely bullet-spongey as well, unless you specifically used high-power HP bullets.

Thats true, but at least the Blood Cats were mutated tigers (which are way stronger then real tigers or the powerful eels back in JA1 were also not normal eels/snakes.) Rocket rifles were the best weapon to use on them.

@LXant Once we mod the game, we seriously need to re balance the weapons, make the assault rifles obviously stronger (they were the primary weapons of our mercs but in JA3 its the sniper rifles.

  13. @LXant Didnt encounter any crocs as yet since i went to the north directly to the desert area. But i noticed already with Pierre (as he had some better armor), was keep shooting him from close range with AK47, Double Barrel, Uzi & Peacemaker but he was only losing small amount of HP each time, seems like the crocs are even way tougher (in real life it takes only 1 headshot to kill a croc (unless this is mutant animal), so it should not take more then 2 shots to the head, could may agree if it could take 3 - 4 body shots).

  14. Sorry but it feels like Haemimont dont wanted to install the IMP to JA3 but then they said lets do it (while yawning 🥱 with minimal effort. I mean you can see & feel something when its made with love & effort),  the IMP merc was the key of the team back in JA2, had a letter of Chivaldori in his inventory and was just leading the team, just like Miguel was leading the rebels.

Also in the intro where we meet Chivaldori in a rainy night somewhere in Czech Republic its our IMP that meets him there.

Then the game starting just like that after Emma`s speech, without any proper intro. Not even a short landing scene with a boat or helicopter (those are may small details but its important for the atmosphere and in total what makes a game more complete.)

I am thoroughly disappointed by this mix of real-time and turn-based. Too bad, I had hoped Haemimont would understand and replicate JA combat mechanics.

The idea is not bad that you can also continue playing in real time if you are not detected and keep killing the enemies in real time, which works perfectly with snipers on standing enemies, i also killed some enemies already with a knife from behind in real time but the action inventory is a lil hectic to choose so you have to make the timing really fast if you sneak up to a unalerted enemy and press the action knifing to the neck. The enemy AI is not so smart (am playing on Commando and once the enemy gets alerted they will bull rush on you without strategy, kamikazee style!) but also weird sometimes the enemy can spot you also from strange angles but hope we can fix the enemy sight later on, we complained about it so much in the Beta gameplay and they did sadly nothing to the beta game, other then completing the mercs voices. Not even 1 single new animation is added to the beta version.

If we (Jagged Alliance Community) want to make a really nice mod, patch (like 1.13, Urban Chaos or Wildfire) we need to put our effort on it. I would suggest the weapon balancing should be left to @Solaris_Wave as he has good knowledge about weapons.

  16. My ROG Zephyrus gets damn hot for sure, especially on performance mode. If you would put a chocolate bar it would meltdown in a second. 😁 Will try to play today in silent mode if it will help reducing the heat but dont think so.

But overall game performance is good so far.

  17. So far after playing it around 10 hours, it is most definitely fun to play. The best part of Jagged Alliance 3 is surely the environment & nature sounds. The gameplay is also fun (at least so far) BUT what really annoyed me is, they did nearly nothing to the BETA version, no new animations added, explosions still dont knock the enemies down (i blowed 4 enemies to pieces though by 1 of Barry`s special grenades which was a lil wow moment but still there should be more animations, the animations feels also totally like a indie game most times) then seems like the sniper rifles are the saviour of our game (sniping from distance with a good marksmanship combined with dexterity is the best strategy to clean the enemies), our so loved assault rifles from JA2 has much less impact and pistols are also pretty useless (especially when a bit stronger enemies start to come, though Team Haemimont said the pistols will be useful still end of the game ?, didnt see it as yet)

I conquered the last sector of Ernie Island with a Gewehr 98 (with Buns), AK47 (with Igor), Double Barrel (with Barry) and a Uzi (with Wendigo, IMP) could not really find anything better. I must admit it was not that easy on Commando, so i restarted that sector a few times, once Pierre comes with his guards to you, its a pain in the @$$ to take him down, he comes just like Terminator and once he is very close to you, he will launch his deadly melee attacks with his machete which will kill you with just 2 blows. I had mostly success with Buns sniping silently most of the enemies or you can also take the enemies in real time quietly as well but its weird and once the enemies are alerted they bullrush on you, i shot to Pierre`s head with pistols, Uzi & Double Barrel from near distance but the man losing very few HP each time, you really need to keep him at bay or throw a bomb on him. Yes throwing is also 1 of the most effective methods in JA3 after sniping, so to have few good throwers in your squad will lots of sense. Like i said i killed with Barry 4 enemies at once with "Shaped Charges".

Also find the gameplay also a lil hectic, changed the mouse controls to old school, could not play at all with the right mouse click, then the inventory is also a lil shaky imo, could have done better but thats it from me for now, dont want to cry too much in my first impression.

  18. I want to tell a few facts here about our IMP, what i directly noticed after 10 hour gameplay is our merc (even if our IMP has a solid leadership) it just doesn't feel like a leader or commander of our squad like it did back in JA2 (where our merc thrown some speeches once a while, directly from the game you could feel its our main merc and the leader of the team, as he/she would have the letter of Enrico), i would always let my IMP talk to the NPC`s most of the times but its greatly missing in JA3.

I dont want to cry too much but the base game has only 5 or 6 portraits (models, i like the models though all are serious looking) in total which is too small imo (there should be some more in the base game) and also we dont have a voice option again (all have their American accents which is pretty dull imo.) Yes with modding we can change all that but still the base game should offer us more options imo.

So overall in the base JA3 IMP creation is pretty poor, no voice options to choose from, cant select a flag of nationality for our merc (which could be easily done) and most importantly our IMP is not giving us the leader feeling anymore.

    EXPERIENCE LEVEL : 1
