Ammunition?

Game so far is best Jagged ever imo. But why this lack of ammunition? I am mainly running after that. Unbalanced!

There’s tonnes of ammo 🙂 - just craft it! Take over the junkyard and you can make all the ammo you need there. Didn’t have issue with lack of ammo…

You will SWIM in ammo you don't know what to do with later in the game, especially once loaded guns start dropping from auto-resolve.
Any town with a workshop also lets your craft it if you have Explosives of 50+

Hell, towards the end my biggest issue was the lack of lockpicks to open boxes without breaking the loot inside.

One of the many drawbacks of not having proper vendors. We need Bobby Ray's and Tony! 😁

Yup. But there’s no airport and I don’t think Bobby rays do delivery by sea 😉

@Warmonger down in Porto Cacao - the dumbster (I call it junkyard because of fallout) you can craft ammunition there with right merc and gunpowder 😜

Bobby Ray gotta be making some pretty good dough by now. At least enough to buy a boat! 😂

@Tzg If Bobby Ray's only delivers by air, possibly we can have a new vendor called Tobby Waves that navigates the waves to bring you sweet contraband? 🙂

Now to the topic of ammo - getting gunpowder and crafting your ammo is one way to do it. I have also encountered 3 weapon vendors so far - The poacher's camp at C5 sells mostly 7,62x39 WP; Fosse Noire at C8 sells exploding .50 BMG and one of the vendors at Fleatown sells again 7,62x39 WP.

I am thinking of adapting most of my Overwatch mercs to Dragunovs due to the abundance of 7,62 WP ammo. 🙂

Bobby Ray doesn't really fit into the economy of JA3, you are meant to craft what you need with a specialist, or live off the land if you'd rather go without.

Both guns and ammo are plentiful enough to be able to fully equip your team(s) with whatever you wish as soon as the game opens up for the second act, and save for some of the Ernie island gear you start with/loot there, everything is balanced around being end-game viable: I sill (Buns just hit Level 10 today) have a FAMAS I looted from one of Pierre's goons with me, because nothing else I picked up was worth the investment or had the exact mod access to replace it.

LOL, i found ammo vendor, and they want $1000 for 30 rounds. Game devs already said in the live stream they regret not making Bobby Rays. They said they just run out of funding and time, and it was cut. If the game does well in sales, maybe they will revisit the Bobby Rays project and implement as a DLC.

Othewise like in other JA games, i can mod into my IMP to spawn into game already with max skills, good guns and lots of ammo & cash. This is not a game breaker.

Right now, i'm just enjoying playing the game without mods, trying to solve the low ammo problem like solving a puzzle. So far still in my 1st playthru, I'm stockpiling heaps of ammo, and my PMC business is double cash flow positive and doing well.

The whole shop system of JA3  is crap and looks unfinished. The game looks partly unfinished to me in just such details and there are more like this less ammo loot. But it is also the best JA3 ever and everything can and will hopefully be put in order sooner or later. We all know it from steam how often games are upgraded and patched there; mainly for free.

Yeah, the shops can use more variety, a proper interface and possibly a barter system. Ammo on the other can be plentiful for certain calibers, not 7,62 NATO though. Which is what you are struggling with, Warmonger. 🙂

I am currently using a mostly Eastern European roster and a lot of 7,62x39 mm. Ivan with a RPK-74 and a Dragunov is a sight to behold - the silent burst sniper that gets 3 AP per kill. 🙂

i have the same problem i ran out of ammo after employing mg gunner. Best advice i can come up with spread around guns and caliber. Build squad with different abilities and weapons to compliment them. I had minor success with my current squad/build but it is tedious and doesnt get any better squad looks like this

Custom merc: stealth, knife+silenced smgs

Fox: Stealth Sniper(switches between Nato and WW ammo rifles)

Barry: Any handgun+nades

Livewire: Overwatch specialist(assault rifles/shotgun)

Grizzly: Machinegunner(switches between Nato ammo guns and WW guns)

Larry: Shotguns and nades

Even with these guys switching between weapons i constantly sneak with custom merc and thin out the herd with knife
Fox can make 2 sniper headshots in a row so 90 of time it is -2 thugs and surprised enemies

If i use Grizzly against 10+ size enemy squads after 2 battles i can just use 2 mercs in combat.

Until something is done about ammo drops or Bobby Ray's, I can only recommend using high accuracy single shot weapons at range to save ammo. Also to spread out the weapons you use, so they have different ammo requirements.

Have 7.62 mm NATO snipers, either with the standard Gewehr 98 or the M24 sniper rifles you should find (I found one M24 at G8 on a corpse rigged with explosives, maybe the loot is fixed?), or the unique Gold Fever from A2 (which is guaranteed). In the poacher camp you can buy upgraded Dragunov rifles every day or two, they use 7.62 WP ammo (which you can get from AK-47's) and the upgrades that come with it (I think a thermal scope is part of it) make the weapon a good choice. Definitely worth it to drop by and get two or three of those.

Then there's the G36 or the Steyr AUG, both can have a range of 30 and use a variety of weapon mods to make sniping at mid-range viable. They use 5.56 mm ammo, which should be plenty. I think it's more of a problem to actually get your hands on those weapons, I don't remember where I got them. More in the east I think, when I went to get Pierre.

Now, I don't know if it was pure luck or if the loot is fixed, but I found the M82 AMR in Landsbach. Ammo for it can be found at a merchant in C7, where you can buy 30 x .50 HE ammo every day or so. Enough to last you for a while if you stock up on 100 shots or so, because you won't get more than one of those weapons anyway.

It is a pity as love the sound of the machine guns a lot and shoot the MG 42  myself in our Army. To do it all with sneak and sniping is not neither my styl nor always possibel in JA3. JA3 itself brings up huge gun fight battles like in C7,L8 or K8 to mention only some. Never seen before in such a game and overwhelming so far. And there are also places sneaking etc. makes sense but in this huge city fights you need ammo, ammo, ammo! In such fights you play it with positions, organisation and fire power!

The thing is, why force the player to be short of ammo and need to craft it, when the enemy has an abundance of it? The only reason appears to be so the game can force the crafting mechanic onto you. There doesn't seem to be any other reason and it still boggles the mind why you can't use the ammo that was carried by fallen enemy soldiers. What about raiding supply depots for weapons and equipment? Is that not possible?

I have a feeling that when I finally get to play the game that I will go along with the intended play style, and initially play the game for what it is. However, I just think that, while doing so, I will be grumbling about how the game defies logic for the sake of an intended gameplay mechanic.

Just gonna copy paste what I wrote in another thread on the same subject.

As for ammo, the game sets you up a bit to "waste" ammo if you're not careful. Since assault rifles and smgs are pre set to burst fire when you select to aim at an opponent, it's easy to become lazy and just fire away. Atleast for myself I've yet to get into my stubborn skull that a single shot is just as powerful (if not more) than a burst in this game.

MG's further the "waste" by firing a minimum of (I belive) 9 rounds. That will quickly deplete your ammo if not careful. Really wish MG's had a short burst option aswell.

Again, it is a pity there is full auto damage reduction. Without it, there would be more of a risk vs. reward. There is too much encouragement in the game to not ever want to use burst or auto fire.

As for machine guns, do they all fire a minimum of 9 rounds or do some MGs have a faster cyclic ROF than others?

Depends on your mods. If i remember correct there are some barrel mods and stock mods which can change that

Did none of you play JA2, getting your hands on your first SKS with no ammo to run it yet, or the same happening with 7.62 weapons later on?

The game does what the previous one did, almost beat for beat, with the ammo scarcity early on. Just use your handguns or the stronger than ever melee for a sector or two longer.

And yes, craft the damn things if you still run short: that's your Bobby Ray's in this game, you need someone with a passing explosives skill anyway, and there is guaranteed gunpowder early on.

I never ran into any ammo problems in MI, and it's not like I had to hold anything back, just don't use the same caliber on everyone: shotguns and SMG's are viable, Winchester rifles are AMAZING.
